The Selva Negra , or "black forest", in English, is one of the most spectacular sites to visit in Nicaragua.

⚠️some important updates to the covid testing timelines when traveling to the U.S. of A!

Mensaje para ciudadanos estadounidenses: Health Alert – U.S. Embassy Managua, Nicaragua (03 December 2021)

On December 6, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) will implement a one-day COVID-19 testing requirement for travelers over age two coming to the United States. Regardless of vaccination status or nationality, any individual coming to the United States must show a negative pre-departure COVID-19 viral test taken the day before they board their flight to the United States. You must show your negative result to the airline before you board your flight.

If you recently recovered from COVID-19, you may instead travel with documentation of recovery from COVID-19 (i.e., your positive COVID-19 viral test result on a sample taken no more than 90 days before the flight’s departure from a foreign country, and a letter from a licensed healthcare provider or a public health official stating that you were cleared to travel).

These requirements are for all air passengers two years of age or older boarding a flight from a foreign country to the United States.

One of the questions we get asked often is how to tell if a taxi is real (safe).
A few tips we offer to tell if a taxi is a "fake" or not are:
⚠️check for the license plates on the car. They should be red and white in colour
⚠️look for the same license plate number painted on to the car on the back and on the side of the vehicle
⚠️look for the checker board pattern along the side
⚠️look for the taxi license in or around the dash board
⚠️there are no meters in taxis, so if you do decide to get in a taxi, make sure you negotiate the price before accepting the ride
⚠️we all like a bargain, but if the price seems too low, it can be a bad sign. Get to know the approximate cost of trips before you start taking taxis. Ask a local if you're not sure.

Health Alert: Second COVID-19 Testing Site in Managua
As a reminder, all travelers to the United States must get tested for COVID-19 no more than 3 days before their flight departs and present the negative result to the airline before boarding. There are now two locations available for these tests within Nicaragua.

On August 11, the Nicaraguan Ministry of Health (MINSA) opened a second COVID-19 testing site for individuals seeking to travel abroad. The second testing site is located at the Nicaraguan Institute for Health Investigation (INIS), in the Bolonia neighborhood of Managua. The original testing site at the National Center for Diagnosis and Reference (CNDR) also continues to operate.

Testing at either INIS or CNDR is conducted Monday through Saturday, from 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Test results are returned the same day between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.

Please contact MINSA or your airline for further information about testing requirements.
