My daughter Margot, and I have been creating a bunch of new patterns, along with some new products. I’ve decided to create a dedicated website where we can tell our stories and offer our products. Lately Margot has been obsessed with drawing something in-between a hermit crab and a snail. She loves making big colourful shells and eyes that poke out, they all seem to have different kinds of personalities. I thought about these exaggerated drawings of hermits and how they are a lot like children. Hermits, like children are constantly growing into their shell and always exploring.

Sometimes they look and feel awkward

Sometimes they are shy

Sometimes scared

Sometimes excited

Sometimes brave and other times sad.

Once they grow into their shell and figure it all out, it’s time to move on, find a new shell and grow again. Always learning, always exploring, it’s an on going project. The more I looked at these images, the more I fell in love with the metaphor an making our logo a hermit and calling it “hermit project”.
