We zijn stilletjes van het logo van Dansmakers Amsterdam gaan houden, die vette volgelopen letters die zo keurig in een frame zijn gezet. Waar is de tijd dat we het logo in onze schone mallen spoten, en er de industriële muren van Dansmakers Amsterdam met genoegen mee ontsierden? En jij, als je het logo nog eens tegenkomt, waar denk je aan?

Het duurt niet lang meer voordat ICK Artist Space de functie van productiehuis overneemt, met Suzy Blok aan het hoofd, met de Company en de Academy als verrijkende kompanen en pilaren. Een nieuwe, grote stap voor de verbetering van talentontwikkeling van hedendaagse dans in Amsterdam. Voor ons, trouw team van Dansmakers Amsterdam is het - helaas - een echt vaarwel.

Dank je wel Evelien van de Sanden, voor je daadkracht waardoor elke productie op zijn voeten belandde. Dank je Els de Wit, die precies wist hoe je van een gebouw een thuis moest maken voor maker en huurder, dank je Ruth Verraes, de levendige stem, look & feel achter Dansmakers Amsterdam en Rory van der Oest voor je toegewijde en geduldige technische steun, en dank je Lara van Lookeren, dramaturg in spe waarop je kunt bouwen.

Zoveel mensen die betrokken zijn geweest en Dansmakers tot deze open en gastvrije plek wisten te maken: Arthur Stokvis, Peter Tichelaar, en onze trouwe freelancers, Moreno Perna, Thomas Lenden, Peter Franken en lieve vrijwilligers, Annelies Doom, Berber de Jong, Sol Ballings, Karolina Krynicka, Ixhel Altamirano, Mavi Veloso, Rebecca Lillich en al wie het mogelijk maakte, fondsen, partners, mecenassen, heel veel dank!
We wensen Suzy Blok en het team van ICK Artist Space een voortvarende trip en we kijken reikhalzend uit naar de aankondiging van het nieuwe programma.

We have slowly come to love the logo of Dansmakers Amsterdam, those bold flooded letters so neatly placed in a frame. Where is the time when we sprayed the logo into our clean moulds and gladly disfigured the industrial walls of Dansmakers Amsterdam with it? And you, when you see the logo again, what will you think of?

It won't be long before ICK Artist Space takes over the function of production house, with Suzy Blok at the head, with the Company and the Academy as enriching companions and pillars. A new, big step for the improvement of talent development of contemporary dance in Amsterdam. For us, loyal team of Dansmakers Amsterdam it is - unfortunately - a real farewell.

Thank you, Evelien van de Sanden, for your decisiveness that put every production on its feet. Thank you Els de Wit, who knew exactly how to make a building a home for maker and tenant, thank you Ruth Verraes, the lively voice, look & feel behind Dansmakers Amsterdam and Rory van der Oest for your dedicated and patient technical support, and thank you Lara van Lookeren, future dramaturge you can build on.

So many people who have been involved and knew how to make Dansmakers this open and hospitable place: Arthur Stokvis, Peter Tichelaar, and our loyal freelancers, Moreno Perna, Thomas Lenden, Peter Franken and dear volunteers, Annelies Doom, Berber de Jong, Sol Ballings, Karolina Krynicka, Ixhel Altamirano, Mavi Veloso, Rebecca Lillich and all those who made it possible, funds, partners, patrons, thank you very much!

Stel je een huis voor, waar genoeg plaats is voor alle ideeën kunstenaars. Waar ‘fris en onstuimig’ naast ‘ervaren, diepgravend en geoefend’ staat. Een huis waar diverse disciplines elkaar opstuwen en kansen voor het grijpen liggen. Dansmakers Amsterdam brengt in haar nieuwe huis maar liefst 27 jaar ervaring mee in talentontwikkeling en een breed internationaal netwerk. ICK Dans Amsterdam viert dit jaar haar tiende jubileum, een stadsgezelschap waar je in Amsterdam niet meer omheen kan. Een spetterend huwelijk.

Wat zit er voor jou in? Als nieuwe maker van ICK Artist Space krijg je in de toekomst de kans te werken met getalenteerde dansers van de junior company, bij te dragen aan het educatieproject van ICK-Academy, of input te krijgen! Daarnaast wordt er dwars door ICK Dans Amsterdam gewerkt met Associate Artists. Waaronder beeldend kunstenaar en curator Bogomir Doringer, die de artistieke invulling van diverse projecten in ICK Artist Space versterkt.

En wat zit er voor jou in, ons publiek? Het duurt nog even, maar eens elk plan vanuit een stevige basis is uitgevouwen, en corona de wereld uit is, wordt de Amsterdamse dansscene gespekt met festivals, coming togethers en kleurrijke events. Kijk je ook al zo uit naar You Better Move #10? Zoveel plannen en ideeën, we popelen, maar nemen de tijd dit nodig is.

We love dance! Je begrijpt dat we niet zonder jou kunnen, jij, danser, kunstenaar, publiek, dansliefhebber, collega, fonds… ben je ook zo enthousiast?

Imagine a house where there is space for the ideas of artists. Where 'fresh and fiery' are next to 'experienced, profound and practised'. A house where various disciplines push each other’s borders and there are opportunities to seize. In her new house, Dansmakers Amsterdam brings no less than 27 years of experience in talent development and a broad international network. ICK Dans Amsterdam is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, a city company you can't ignore in Amsterdam. A sparkling marriage.

What's in it for you? As a new artist of ICK Artist Space, you'll get the chance to work with talented dancers from the junior company, contribute to the education and research project of ICK-Academy, and get input and feed-back. ICK Dans Amsterdam also works with Associate Artists. Including visual artist and curator Bogomir Doringer, who reinforces the artistic interpretation of various projects in ICK Artist Space.

And what's in it for you, our audience? It will take a while, but once every plan is unfolded from a solid base, and corona is no longer in the world, the Amsterdam dance scene will be fed by Festivals, coming togethers and colourful events. Are you looking forward to You Better Move #10? So many plans and ideas, we are eager, but we need to be patient.

De première van Keren Rosenberg in maart, de nationale tour tijdens Moving Futures (april), New Adventures (mei/juni) en de internationale Aerowaves Twenty21 kunstenaars zoals Lois Alexander die on tour gaan… de agenda van ICK Artist Space vult zich al met spannende makers en trajecten die gestart zijn bij Dansmakers Amsterdam.

We hebben een tof jaar in petto met verrassende namen waaronder Mami Kang, Courtney May Robertson en Andreas Hannes. Wat komt er nog meer? Voor de oplettende onder ons: de verloving tussen Dansmakers Amsterdam en ICK heeft al een mooie geschiedenis. Met Dansmakers Amsterdam Welcomes geven we sinds 2017 ook podium aan ICK makers als Jesús de Vega en Aleksandra Lemm.

En onze band met ICK maakte het mogelijk om ons New Adventures programma jaarlijks met extra residenten uit te breiden. Denk aan Moreno Perna, Karel Tuytschaever, Elisa Zuppini, Sherise Strang en Chronos. De vier makers van Chronos pionieren in Artist Space en gaan al in februari in première! Waar? In onze trouwe theaterzaal onder de nieuwe naam Podium Noord.

Tot slot: de Open Call voor het nieuwe New Adventures seizoen is reeds gelanceerd. Meld je snel aan via ICK Dans Amsterdam. Misschien word jij wel de eerste New Adventures resident van ICK Artist Space?

We look forward to the premiere of Keren Rosenberg Works in March, the national tour during Moving Futures starting in April, New Adventures residency program in the house May/June, and the international Aerowaves Twenty21 artists, like Lois Alexander Dancer and Choreographer on tour.

The agenda of ICK Artist Space is already filling up with exciting artists and trajectories. We have a great year in store with surprising names like Mami Kang, Courtney Robertson at Festival CEMENT and Andreas Hannes.

What more is there to come? For the observant among us: the engagement between Dansmakers Amsterdam and ICK already has a beautiful history. With Dansmakers Amsterdam Welcomes we have offered the stage to ICK makers such as Jesús de Vega and Aleksandra Lemm since 2017.

And our connection with ICK made it possible to expand our New Adventures programme with extra residents every year. Think of Vortex Magick, BARRY - Karel Tuytschaever, Elisa Zuppini, Sherise Strang and Chronos.
The four artists of Chronos are pioneering Artist Space and will premiere in February! Where will they premiere? In our faithful theatre with a brand new name: 𝐏𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐮𝐦 𝐍𝐨𝐨𝐫𝐝.

De afgelopen vier jaar waren een intense trip. Maar allemachtig! De voorstellingen leken jaar op jaar steeds meer te knetteren, wat een energie. Tussen 2017 en 2020 alleen al waren er meer dan 90 makers betrokken bij 110 programma’s!

2017 was het jaar van heel wat eerste keren. Onze eerste Dansmakers Welcomes, onze eerste New Adventures, onze eerste Sharing Practice.
En You Better Move #1. Een oprechte boodschap aan de makers en het veld om vooral te blijven bewegen. En een acte van verzet: een podium onbespeeld laten was geen optie!

Met een bewonderenswaardige inzet van zoveel makers, werd het podium een bruisende plek waar dansmakers talent hun ideeën konden uitproberen, op onderzoek konden gaan, konden schitteren en falen.
New Adventures werd onze stoomketel voor experiment waar ons publiek niet zelden de meest gedurfde presentaties mee maakten, niets was te gek!
Afgelopen vier jaar produceerden we 14 premières van net afgestudeerde makers uit het Moving Forward traject waaronder Jija Sohn, Evangelos Biskas, Andreas Hannes en Stina Fors, met dank en steun van Dansgroep Amsterdam en de Moving Futures partners. En we presenteerden ook premières van makers die onder de paraplu van Dansmakers zich hebben ontwikkeld tot gevorderde makers: Fernando Belfiore, Marie Goeminne, Cecilia Moisio en Gaia Gonnelli. In al die producties lagen er prachtige uitdagingen! Voor onze pool techniekers en lichtontwerpers, voor onze fotograaf en video editors, barmedewerkers en vrijwilligers en ons team.

Tenslotte blikken we nog terug op onze bijdragen aan Moving Futures, het bruisende festival voor de nieuwe generatie dansmakers. Wist je dat Dansmakers Amsterdam ooit een van de initiators was van het event? We lanceerden een pilot van het festival in 2012 onder de naam Punch!

Zoveel meegemaakt, zoveel geleerd! Maar het avontuur is nog niet klaar. Vanaf januari gaan we verder onder ICK Artist Space. Dus blijf ons volgen!

The last four years have been an intense trip. But by al means! The performances seemed to buzz more and more year after year, what an energy. Between 2017 and 2020 alone, more than 90 makers were involved in 110 programmes!

2017 was the year of many first times. Our first Dansmakers Welcomes, our first New Adventures, our first Sharing Practice.
And You Better Move #1. A sincere message to the makers and the field to keep moving. And an act of resistance: leaving a stage unused was not an option!

With the admirable efforts of so many artists, the stage became a vibrant place where dance talents could try out their ideas, explore, shine and fail.
New Adventures became our boiler for experimentation where our audience often experienced the most daring presentations, In the last four years we produced 14 premieres, some of these were of recently graduated makers from the Moving Forward trajectory including Jija Sohn, Evangelos Biskas, Andreas Hannes and Stina Fors, with thanks and support from Dansgroep Amsterdam. And we also presented premieres by makers who we supported during long-term artistic residencies in the past and are now advanced independant makers such as Fernando Belfiore, Marie Goeminne, Cecilia Moisio and Gaia Gonnelli. In all those productions there were wonderful challenges! For our pool of technicians and lighting designers, dramaturges, for our photographer and video editors, bartenders and volunteers and our team.

Finally, we look back on our contributions to Moving Futures, the vibrant festival for the new generation of dance makers. Did you know that Dansmakers Amsterdam was one of the initiators of the event? We launched the first pilot of the festival in 2012 under the name Punch!

We have been through so much, learned so much! But the adventure isn't over yet. From January we will merge into ICK Artist Space. So keep following us!

In this post Casper Wubbolts talks about his role in the film, and about his wish to see more deaf performers in cinema.
