It all started with two water pumping stations on a completely deserted Zeeburgereiland in 2009.

In order to turn it into a hotel, approximately 20.000 kilos of concrete needed to be cut and removed.

In the place of the kitchen and the bathrooms where two huge pipes to pump the water.
All to create a warm and comfortable hotel with an unusual history.

HOSPITALITY | MAMA GAIA | RESULT

Oceans Haarlem offers wonderful light-flooded and biophilic designed office floors combined with their open to public vegan restaurant Mama Gaia. The rough, earthly kitchen- and bar-fronts showcase the plant-based restaurant's 'down with earth' mentality.

One of the major challenges was to preserve the characteristics of the historical building and connect them with the new spaces. We kept the original elements clean and white to showcase the monumental architecture, while giving the new areas a timeless and cozy quality with accent touches like a fireplace or vintage furniture.

Hotel Arena is located in Amsterdam’s major public park Oosterpark, within a listed building dating back to 1886. n collaboration with Team V Architecture, we welcomed nature in to design the new spaces. Each area brings the outside in with a warm and natural material palette, complemented by sustainably sourced furniture. Open layouts, plenty of daylight and a greenery transform Hotel Arena into the extension of Oosterpark.

The diamond polishing factory was a closed complex with only one entrance and one exit, enclosed by a fence. After the transformation, it has become a multifunctional building with an open character. With office space on the ground floor adjacent to the public forecourt, it has transformed into a city garden.

A former diamond factory is transformed into a special living and working area. This unique building is a mix of modern and traditional materials and shapes.

TANK uses a bright and light colour palette, with high windows that let in the natural daylight. The terrazzo floor references back to the original floor from 1906.
