Toni and Ainhoa met in the Conservatorium van Amsterdam during their master studies in the Creative Performance Lab. They clicked immediately after creating, playing and performing together in the CPL. Since then, they have been investigating the use of the oboe, the voice, the spoken word in Arabic and Spanish with the electronics. The result is the creation of a journey of evoked images and soundscapes inspired by Lebanese and Spanish music. 🎶
They will play an intimate after-concert inspired by the elements of Dadaism and madness in the main concert that night by and .

The first event we contributed to was last week’s farewell evening for Maarten van Boven, the director of the Muziekgebouw. He will become the new director of the Conservatorium in Rotterdam.
Echoes of Nothing is a collaboration between the Muziekgebouw and CvA, which was spearheaded by Maarten himself.
His efforts have empowered the next generation of musicians, giving us the opportunity to enliven the public spaces of this beautiful building with out of the box thinking.
CvA Alumna Vera Morais and her ensemble EUPNEA performed one of Vera’s original compositions ‘mirror error‘.

Third and last instalment of Pictures at an exhibition, 2021 version!
Inspired by Kandinsky's Baba Yaga painting, we present Kukurusu!
In the words of composer Nuno Lobo: “Kukurusu” is a deformed being (or a trio of spirits of the same name) who appears in superstitious folk literature. This ambiguous figure has inspired researchers to see him as a representation of Sorrow, Work, Door, Susurrus, Dusk, Sword, Drugs or even God. Several folk traditions mention the “Kukurusu prayer” as a ritual for communicating with Kukurusu. Its main purpose is to obtain an answer to a problem or a question of higher importance. The prayer takes the form of a short instrumental hymn, using 8 different ‘musical’ instruments: toy piano, melodica, two finger cymbals, wrist rahle, metallophone, a mallet and Koshi chimes. This ritual has to be performed alone and it requires a strict sequence of actions, written in the music score. Once one finishes the prayer, Kukursu will give an answer.

Echoes of Nothing Concert Series
There’s a silence in-between John Cage's 4’33”, the thus named grand café, and the spatial foyers of the Muziekgebouw. This silence has given rise to the concert series ’Echoes of Nothing’, curated by CvA students Viola Blache, Ramin Amin Tafreshi, Lorenz Rommelspacher. Each edition is linked to a concert in the main hall of the Muziekgebouw and takes place monthly before or after this event at 4'33 or in the open space of the unique building. Upcoming and creative musicians from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam reflect here on the concert with their own artistic ideas, concepts and formats.
