Let’s face it guys there’s not many cities in the world you can take photos like this!
There’s also not many locations in Amsterdam you can take such a clean shot of the canal houses as this.
Avoid getting sucked in to the tourist traps and obvious photo locations like most visitors to our dense labyrinth city by coming on a tour with us at Amsterdam Photo Safari.

It can be surprisingly difficult to find an aerial view to photograph our demure city!
But when you do find one it’s well worth it, as you can see by this shot taken Kieran Willams in the golden hour.
We always have a few locations to shoot the city up our sleeve to photograph from above.

Along with enchanting canals and bridges Amsterdam also excites many photographers for its modern and atmospheric architecture.
One of local photographers, Simone, captures some beautiful imagery. She’s on instagram - https://www.instagram.com/simone_wit?igsh=MWNxNXQ2ZHNjdTB3dA==

I was out teaching a photography workshop and mid session it hammered down with snow! So I was perfectly poised to capture the vibe of amsterdam in midst of the snow covering.
We love the changing seasons here at Amsterdam Photo Safari.

We like to champion our guests images here at Amsterdam Photo Safari, but I’d also like to share some of my favorite images I’ve taken over the the years leading up to Christmas.
This was shot close to Leidseplein and I must admit the snow really adds so much atmosphere to the scene.
Oh how we love Amsterdam! It’s simpley one of the most charming cities to photograph in the world.

I’m loving these images that Nick Payne has made here. Totally captured the magic of Amsterdam. Right place right time - middle of blue hour, long exposure, skilled editing. Majestic.
There’s different places that we love to take our guests at different times of year in Amsterdam.
Some places lend themselves to spring photography, some to winter or autumn photography, and some are simply perfect for summer photography.

One of our favorite locals (on IG) really captures the spirit and essence of Amsterdam how it feels and appears when you live here.
This is something we always try to get across to our tour guests, who we never see as tourists, but visiting friends….

There’s so many ways to photograph in Amsterdam. The people are fascinating. The bikes are exciting. The architecture is alluring. The canals are dreamy and serene. The bridges are captivating especially at night when lit up. And if it rains a little bit, you get cool ass reflections to double up on all of those things I just mentioned.
Come hang out with us and we’ll show you the best spots at the exact right time of day to see and photograph it all.

….today in the tulip fields.
The tulips are out late this year, but today I can say they are looking spectacular.
They could go as far as mid May, maybe even further.
It’s a sight to chersih. And the smell is like stepping into a fine perfumery.
Daily photography tours going to the tulip fields.

There’s nothing quite like standing at the food of a massive windmill as the sails soar past you on a sunny day.
The windmills close to amsterdam are also beautiful, but the majestic display of 19 windmills at Kinderdijk has to be witnessed and photographed if you plan a visit to the Netherlands.
And what’s more we can get up close and personal with some of the beasts at Kinderdijk.
Like I say, there’s also windmills close to Amsterdam but a trip further out to Kinderdijk is something I recommend to everyone.
As part of our tulip tour we have been taking people out to kinderdijk this year. It’s been a massive delight to see peoples faces when they get close to the windmills, experimenting with different angles to photograph them.

Amsterdam you’re looking magnificent today!

ALTERNATIVE ANGLES. We believe that you should walk away from Amsterdam with the CLASSIC photos of canals and bridges, BUT we also like to challenge and inspire you to see the city in a different way.

If you could photograph a
MASSIVE field of tulips in only ONE color what color would you choose?

Kinderdijk is undoubtedly the most magnificent site in the world to photograph windmills. Unfortunately it’s a little tricky to reach from Amsterdam on your own.
This spring we are combining Tulip tours with a visit to this awe inspiring location.

There's so many tours around that leave you stranded with a dried up tour guide and unenthusiastic host who is only doing it for the money!
We at Amsterdam Photo Safari do this job because we are passionate about showing you this stunning country we live in. We love spending time meeting new people and inspiring you on your photographic journey for the time you share with us.
You can see us in the flesh on a Canadian TV Travel show here.
We warmly welcome you to Holland....
Now let's get shooting!

There will be lots of excitement this spring around the tulip fields.
And with good reason!
It’s been long and (at times tough) winter for us in Europe and spring will mark a massive turning of the tides.
And nothing exemplifies this time more than the transformation of the landscape when the tulips burst in to life.
It’s only around the corner my friends!!
I’ve been chatting to many people the last few months as they are booking out Tulip Tours and excitement is growing.
I for one can’t wait to get out there and be amongst the color and vibrancy.
We have several different options for Tulip Tours this year, and go from 1 day up to 3 days.

Finding the best locations at exactly the right time of day is paramount to avoiding grim, boring photos.
There’s a reason why we at Amsterdam Photo Safari have been named best European photo tour by NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC and CONTE NAST.
The proof is in the pudding.

All too often people travel to Holland hoping to photograph Tulips in the farmers fields, but they leave sorely disappointed after finding only a few examples in small fields.
The problem with shooting tulips in farmers fields is that they change location every year as the farmers allow fields to lay fallow and rest.
So you can’t predict where they will be year after year!
These fields cover VAST areas in Holland and finding the best locations takes a lot of field trips to scout the country for the best farmers fields where there are long rows of tulips.
Every season we scour the countryside as the tulips start to come out, ensuring we know all the locations where they fill the field of view, allowing our tour guests the absolute best photographs of this wondrous sight.
You simply can’t go it alone and hope to find the best places to shoot tulips in farmers fields, it’s too big an area and takes too long to find them!
Luckily we are here and we are like blood hounds when it comes to sniffing out the absolute best locations, that people otherwise would have to be very lucky or very tenacious to find.

Hello my Amsterdam friends, something for you?
PHOTOGRAPHY TOUR GUIDE IN AMSTERDAM
My Photography Tour business - Amsterdam Photo Safari is looking for people to join our team.
10 years ago I started my photography tour business: Amsterdam Photo Safari. During that time the business has grown, and we were recommended in National Geographic Magazine twice as one of the Coolest things to do in Europe.
So, I would like to offer a position to work as a photography tour guide.
It is self employed for this role.
It is a specialist tour for people interested in photography who are visiting Amsterdam. The groups are very small. Between 1 and 4 people.
You will be leading the tour, teaching photography, and showing the best places in Amsterdam to photograph.
You need to be outgoing and have a strong, likeable personality, and you will need to be confident with your camera as you will be teaching photography to guests on the tour.
It is a casual job with only occasional hours!!!!!!!!
You may do between 1 and 3 tours a week in the PEAK season.
Since most of my clients are in their 40's and 50's, you will be more suited to this role if you are at least in your late 20's.
It is a walking tour, that lasts between 3 - 7 hours.
The day tour starts at 11am. The night tour time finishes 90 mins after sunset.
You don't need to be a pro photographer but you do need to have a good understanding of photography as you will be teaching composition and camera techniques.
You will need to be confident with long exposure and tripod work as most of the tours are evening tours!!!!!
To apply for a position please send me an email to, [email protected] with the title Amsterdam Photo Safari 2022, and tell me some things about yourself that I will find relevant.

A friend of mine who past away suddenly and surprisingly was something of an expert at photographing reflections in puddles in Amsterdam. He used to tell me that the best time to shoot them was straight after a rain fall because there was a crispness and clarity in the air that comes accross magnificently in the reflection and the photograph.
We miss you Sam.
Katinka, who took this photo would have made you proud.
You can see more of her images that she’s shot in our city on Instagram.

Stunning atmosphere at Kinderdijk this morning.
These summer evenings in Amsterdam create memories that have stayed with me for years and years. There’s something about being in the city in the night with these late sunsets. Warms the soul.
