Back in 2017 when we were celebrating the 25th anniversary of W+K Amsterdam we made a video of everyone lip synching opera. It felt like a nice way to bring everyone together in a single creative expression, and hey, who'd expect Rossini as the soundtrack for W+K? We had the idea to also reach out to Dan & David on the off-chance that they'd be up for recording themselves too. Not only were they up for it, but they crushed the performance. We have it playing in our reception on loop today, to remind us of the joy both these men brought into our lives. ♥️

On July 1st 1863 slavery was abolished in the Dutch Caribbean, however it was not until 1873 that enslaved people were completely free. This happened in Suriname, the ABC- Islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao) and the SSS-islands (Sint-Maarten, Sint- Eustatius, Saba) This day is also known as Keti Koti [ˈkɪti ˈkɔti] - “Broken Chains” - in Sranan Tongo (Suriname) or the Dia di Lucha pa Libertat in Curaçao. As Keti Koti is an important part of Dutch history, organisations including nederlandwordtbeter , Theblackarchives , radio station FunX and De Goede Zaak are campaigning for this date to get nationwide recognition by becoming a national day of remembrance and celebration.
