Getting excited with less than 2 weeks to for the Andalucia Bird Festival.

One of the 'Caring for Nature' projects we are continuing to support is the Lesser Kestrel nest provision initiative and it is becoming a huge success and there are also plans to expand it to other areas. My latest article for the SUR newspaper focuses on our iconic Bonelli's Eagle. A brief summary on this magnificent eagle.

Birding here in southern Spain is currently being curtailed by extreme hot temperatures, but it is evident some early autumn migrants are arriving to my region as they pass through on their long journey south to Africa. Willow Warbler are among birds starting to appear from their northern breeding grounds.

Here in Andalucía autumn migration has started here in a big way with 000's of Black Kite and Common Swift, Bee Eater and others headed south to Africa. White Stork wait patiently in the departure lounge before their flight south.

ABS are proud of our association with the Montagu’s Harrier project and our funding reached over 10,000 euros this year to assist with facilitating the work carried out by the group’s many volunteers. Although this year was a difficult one for Montagu’s in the region, the project was still able to contribute to sustaining a micro population locally in the La Janda area. Please visit our news section on the following link for both the interim report and end of season summary. There is a facility for people to donate to conservation efforts at the end of the article.
