Greetings from NYC
Date for your diary :
A boy meets a girl. The past meets the future. A finger meets a trigger. The beginning meets the end. England is forever. England must fall.
In the near future, a disaffected civil servant is offered a lucrative job in a mysterious new government ministry gathering 'expats' from across history to test the limits of time-travel.
Her role is to work as a 'bridge': living with, assisting and monitoring the expat known as '1847' - Commander Graham Gore. As far as history is concerned, Commander Gore died on Sir John Franklin's doomed expedition to the Arctic, so he's a little disoriented to find himself alive and surrounded by outlandish concepts such as 'washing machine', 'Spotify' and 'the collapse of the British Empire'. With an appetite for discovery and a seven-a-day cigarette habit, he soon adjusts; and during a long, sultry summer he and his bridge move from awkwardness to genuine friendship, to something more.
But as the true shape of the project that brought them together begins to emerge, Gore and the bridge are forced to confront their past choices and imagined futures. Can love triumph over the structures and histories that have shaped them? And how do you defy history when history is living in your house?

The Future - as the richest people on the planet have discovered - is where the money is. The Future is a few billionaires leading the world to destruction while safeguarding their own survival with secret lavish bunkers. The Future is private weather, technological prophecy and highly deniable weapons.
The Future is a handful of friends - the daughter of a cult leader, a non-binary hacker, an ousted Silicon Valley visionary, the concerned wife of a dangerous CEO and an internet-famous survivalist - hatching a daring plan. It could be the greatest heist ever. Or the cataclysmic end of civilisation. The Future is what you see if you don't look behind you. The Future is the only reason to do anything, the only object of desire. The Future is here.
On holiday in Germany I found the English books section in a big bookstore simply named BOOKS. 😊

Which novel comes in your mind when you hear the word 'Regency' ?
You'd think you would be allowed to relax over Christmas, but not in the world of the Thursday Murder Club.
On Boxing Day, a dangerous package is smuggled across the English coast. When it goes missing, chaos is unleashed. The body count starts to rise – including someone close to the Thursday Murder Club – as our gang face an impossible search and their most deadly opponents yet.
With the clock ticking down and a killer heading to Cooper’s Chase, has their luck finally run out? And who will be 'The Last Devil To Die'?
A colourful display of books to brighten up your day.
“I still think that going in on that Friday afternoon and spending that money was one of the happiest experiences of my life.”
~ Jen Campbell, The Bookshop Book
An engaging exploration of what it means to be as*xual in a world that’s obsessed with s*xual attraction, and what the ace perspective can teach all of us about desire and identity.
What exactly is s*xual attraction and what is it like to go through life not experiencing it? What does as*xuality reveal about gender roles, about romance and consent, and the pressures of society? This accessible examination of as*xuality shows that the issues that aces face—confusion around s*xual activity, the intersection of s*xuality and identity, navigating different needs in relationships—are the same conflicts that nearly all of us will experience. Through a blend of reporting, cultural criticism, and memoir, Ace addresses the misconceptions around the “A” of LGBTQIA and invites everyone to rethink pleasure and intimacy.
Journalist Angela Chen creates her path to understanding her own as*xuality with the perspectives of a diverse group of as*xual people. Vulnerable and honest, these stories include a woman who had blood tests done because she was convinced that “not wanting s*x” was a sign of serious illness, and a man who grew up in a religious household and did everything “right,” only to realize after marriage that his experience of s*xuality had never been the same as that of others. Disabled aces, aces of color, gender-nonconforming aces, and aces who both do and don’t want romantic relationships all share their experiences navigating a society in which a lack of s*xual attraction is considered abnormal. Chen’s careful cultural analysis explores how societal norms limit understanding of s*x and relationships and celebrates the breadth of s*xuality and queerness.
