Bed and Breakfast Amsterdam West

New for this summer 🌞 a picknick table on the terras next to the canal. For those who want to have breakfast next to canal when the weather permits.

Ready for the new year. The room is now suitable for 3 guests, 2 adults and 1 child. The foldable bed build is done.

Also a new heater is placed in this sitting room and the heaters have thermostats, so the warmth in the room is now adjustable by our guests.

Just like any previous year we make some small or bigger changes to the room(s) in December. Last year we merged the two rooms to one. This left us with demand for a extra or third bed for kids, so time for a folding bed.

The first of the year

It this time of the year again 🌷🌷🌷

In January of this year we made some changes to the room(s). Two rooms became one, we are pretty happy with the result.

Thursday the Keukenhof will open its doors for this year flower expo. It's spring 🌼

Changes are made at the B&B. The sitting area will become the entrance to the room and bedroom area will have direct access to the bathroom. Hope to have all the work done by the end of the week.

Amsterdam Light Festival

Kunstwerken die je niet mag missen tijdens Amsterdam Light Festival | I amsterdam Van 1 december 2022 tot en met 22 januari 2023 verandert Amsterdam weer in een sprookje. Met 20 oplichtende kunstwerken verspreid over de oostelijke kant van de grachtengordel, laat het Amsterdam Light Festival je een wereld van verbeeldingskracht binnengaan.

Why do you want to visit Amsterdam?

Vincent hoped that his colourful work would contribute to the modernisation of art. From his time in Paris onwards, he constantly experimented with colours. This resulted in countless paintings that are now considered highlights of his oeuvre. In 1888, he predicted: ‘the painter of the future is a colourist such as there hasn’t been before’. He didn’t know that he himself would be that painter.

🗺 Kleine grachten, pittoreske bruggetjes en een eeuwenoude binnenstad omringd door water: een mooie omschrijving van Amsterdam, maar ook van Venetië.

Al eeuwenlang zijn er gelijkenissen tussen de twee steden en waren de ogen naar elkaar gericht. Niet alleen in de handel en ontwikkeling van de scheepvaart, maar ook in de kunst. Cartografen maakten kaarten van de steden die verdacht veel op elkaar lijken, schilders verbeelden de haast identieke grachten en zelfs onze huisdichter Joost van den Vondel schreef graag over Venetië waarin hij de stad roemde om zijn staatkundig voorbeeld:

"Uw stad en staet verduurt der monarchyen troonen …daer uw raet vereenigt menigh eilant Een stadt, een eilant, zee en ’t vaste lant gebiet Wie noit Venedich zagh, zagh ’t licht der staeten niet."

Due to COVID there have been some changes in the B&B. We removed the bed in room 1 and are creating a sitting room to be used by our guests. So now just one 2 person room with private bathroom and as extra a sitting room with access to the canal side terrace.

Coming winter we will during a renovation connect the rooms into one luxury room with attached bathroom.

Rainy days

Vandaag opent de tentoonstelling "Aanzienlijke portretten - Adolf Pirsch (1858-1929) in Nederland"!

Museum Van Loon is een van de weinige publieke collecties die werk van Pirsch laat zien; de meeste portretten bevinden zich in particuliere verzamelingen. Veel van de werken in de tentoonstelling verlaten dan ook voor het eerst hun huiskamers. Meer informatie via onze website

Today the exhibition "Considerable portraits - Adolf Pirsch (1858-1929) in the Netherlands" opens!

Museum Van Loon is one of the few public collections to show work by Pirsch; most portraits are in private collections. Many of the works in the exhibition are therefore leaving their living rooms for the first time.
