Sîpan Sezgin Tekin (Amed/Kurdistan 1996 - TR/NL) is a performer, theatre maker, and storyteller. As an artist and nomad, Tekin's quest for meaning takes shape through a rich blend of performance, music, language, sound, light, and documentary rooted in an oral tradition of narrative and storytelling. The work offers dynamic reflections of political and existential realities, using mythological and real stories to create experimental narrative performances that blur the lines between fiction and reality. By doing so, Tekin focuses on the political dynamics of language as a power dynamic, exploring multilingualism and the embodiment of language in performance in terms of accessibility and narrative diversity. His work is an ongoing research of embodied communicative and sensory potential of language use in order to create experiential theatrical and performative situations.
In ‘THE CUD’, Tekin investigates whether audiences can connect with narrative in unfamiliar languages, probing performativity of language beyond cognitive boundaries, between metaphor and reality. Tekin shares the story of a wild mountain goat, known as 'IBEX,'bringing together his investigations into multilingualism, the performativity of language, and sonic aspects of language. Wild mountain goats are mythological and sacred animals. However, the intention here goes beyond using them as a metaphor. It aims to question the identity-lessness and independence of both IBEX and the human species, by assuming the reality that the physical, biological, and vital conditions can influence each other on a conceptual and physical level.‘THE CUD’ is presented as an experimental narrative, showing transitions between disrupting conventional language structures and immersing audiences in the sensory experience of unfamiliar linguistic embodiment. ‘THE CUD’ is considered a reaction to among other concepts segregating forces of identity, nationality, nationhood, race, gender and colour and conceptualised linguistically.
We are tremendously proud to share with you the programme for this years DAS Theatre Master Research presentations!
🐙This year we will be presenting earlier than usual, in an attempt to shift our focus even more from production and presentation towards research and development. Offering the students the possibility to take further steps within their research and practice after the audience encounter. SO COME AND SHARE THIS MOMENT WITH US!!
🌈When contemplating what connects these artists, ‘synesthesia’ comes to mind: the phenomenon that the stimulation of one sense leads to a secondary sensory experience. *To touch a sound, to hear a vision* is an invitation to feel, to be touched, to open the senses to each other, to find the moments of fluidity in which one sensation can tumble into another.
🫶What these six artistic proposals have in common, is a reach-out to the audience, a desire for a radical invitation, to touch and to be touched, to create a response to a sense of responsibility. Each of these artists, while grappling with the political demands of our turbulent times, looked for ways to bypass the cognitive and work through the senses, understanding the body of the audience as a site of political agency.
After all, like Octavia E. Butler writes in Parable of the Sower:
“All that you touch
You Change.
All that you Change
Changes you.
The only lasting truth
is Change.”

Fariborz Karimi - Oh, wild gazelle, where are you?
Friday May 26: 18:30 - 19:45
Saturday May 27: 15:30 - 16:45
Saturday May 27: 19:30 - 20:45
‘Oh, wild gazelle, where are you?’’ is a collective creation that creates a shared reality of friendship and care, which offers comfort and resilience. The performance challenges the issues of exotification, censorship, and self-censorship in both public and private spaces across various contexts. By exploring the intersections between overlapping spaces, and realities, and meanings of presence and absence, this performance aims to create a collaborative space that avoids the Western tendency to exoticize non-Western art.
The title of the show is taken from a line in Hafiz's poem, ‘The Wild Gazelle’, which will be sung during the performance. 'Oh, wild gazelle, where are you?’ is an invitation to dream together and find solace from the surveillance of our current reality.

Rebekka Bangerter - HORROR VACUI
Friday May 26: 20:15 - 21:45
Saturday May 27: 17:30 - 19:00
How do we write the world?
And what can be found in the void?
A live written performance, that invites you to read between the lines and embrace the void. A slowed-down reflection on the power of language and the politicality of writing.
An exploration of the entanglement of human-text-technology, inspired by (techno-)feminist perspectives. What realities do we experience between deleted and edited thoughts, co-imagined creations and our own bodily presence?
In her time at DAS, Rebekka has been trying to understand the performativity of the written word. How does text perform? And how to perform through text? While she is still thinking, typing and doubting, text-generating language models have evolved tremendously and found their way into our everyday use. Producing text has become fast and posthuman, disembodied. But who is reading all of it? And what happens to our imaginary in a semio-capital space of infinite growth?
Please take a /seat/ break.

White Gold - Agat Sharma
Please be aware that this presentation takes place at location “de Brakke Grond” (Nes 45, Amsterdam)
Friday May 26: 16:00 - 17:15
Saturday May 27: 15:30 - 16:45
White Gold is a restaging of a traditional folk performance from the Cotton growing regions of Central India. The performance takes place every year in the month of May just before the sowing season begins with the arrival of rain in June. For five consecutive nights the ancient tale of Ruru, S**a and Larynx is performed by the farming community in their unique theatrical style. In the story, Ruru and S**a are two children who are chosen to undertake an epic journey across the Earth to restore their lands that have been disturbed by the untimely landing of an alien Larynx.

Tomorrow and Wednesday:
BOW A STUDY - Wojciech Grudziński:
Tuesday May 23: 20:15 – 21:45
Wednesday May 24: 18:00 - 19:30
BOW A STUDY arrives from Wojciech Grudziński’s long-term research on the phenomenon of the bow and its choreographic and social dimensions. With a pinch of melancholy, a specific perspective on the tradition of ballet in Eastern and Central Europe is echoed, which mirrors the post-communist new order dominated by power, bravado and neoliberal economy. With his artistic team, Grudziński investigated a legacy of great bows from the history of dance, pointing to the liminal, suspicious, and undefined moments in performance. Through assembled choreography of curtains, dancers, intentional samples, invented and real memories, and exchanges of gifts, both audience and the site of theater are invited into a playful dialogue on hierarchy, vulnerability and gratitude. It is never fully clear who submits, who bows and who dominates and sets the direction of the game. As today, being in debt is desirable, the aim is never to have debts paid off, but to preserve a state of personal indebtedness.
