International Masters Artist Educator
"A new generation of artists who will use their skills, knowledge and capacity to enable social change'' (John Johnston, head of iMAE)
At iMAE we promote the concept of the artisteducator as one identity. This simply means we see art as education and education as art. Therefore an iMAE graduate is not an art teacher or teacher of art, but an artisteducator who uses their practice as a vehicle to enable agency and social change.
Since 6th March 2023 our students have been working with community organizations across the Greater Shankill and other areas of North Belfast.
Collectively the students have produced a number of innovative and extremely powerful artworks that have either been co-authored or influenced by the places, people and time of their engagement.
With our partners the Argyll Business Centre we are delighted to invite you to a presentation of the works at the Shankill Mission, home of Vault Artist Studios, on the 15th June between 4.30 pm and 7 pm.
We hope you will be able to join us in a celebration of the achievements of the students and the communities they have worked with in this unique historical setting.
Drinks and refreshments will be served.

The students are hard at work preparing for their residencies in Belfast. From interviewing locals last week to intensive lectures and workshops on identity and trauma this week. And after classes they either join in on community talks or get acclimatized to local culture.
Thank you to Bruce White and Anne van den Ouwenlant and her team for coming to Belfast this week.
Want to join our intensive and interesting programme? Apply now through Studielink!
This is the last week of the first phase, for our students here in Arnhem. In two weeks, they move on to the second phase in Belfast.
If you are close to Arnhem and you feel like taking a look at what our students have been up to for the past months, come join us this Thursday in the ArtEZ Arnhem cafeteria at 17:00 for our finissage. Students and staff will be there to have a chat and answer any questions.
Today we had the last few students present their research questions - or what they had so far in terms of research interest.
After discussing a wide range of topics, including silliness, collective narrative, shame, connecting to nature, trauma sensitivity and much more, we are now finishing the year with a winter celebration, full of cheer, drinks and silly gifts.
Wishing everybody wonderful holidays and a happy new year!
Wan to join us next year? The first application rounds are coming up. Apply by the 9th of January on Studielink.
Out students have started their Site Specific College in the context of Belfast, Northern Ireland. They will use their creative talents to work with local communities addressing social issues in the aftermath of The Troubles.
iMÆ is a unique program that was established to train and enable a new generation of artists and others to join a movement in education that seeks to make our world a more empathetic and peaceful place.
We are looking for very specific people - people who are resilient, flexible, and open to the creative impulses needed to respond to the challenges of our world. If you feel you have these capacities then join us on *Monday 7th of March 6:30 pm CET* via zoom to discuss our program and what part you can play in it.

Last week we were honored to welcome Bruce White from (Organization for Identity & Cultural Development) for a three day workshop on Identity. We started with using our own identity positions to create insights in how identity works and moved to how to apply this knowledge in working with others, as artisteducators.
Many thanks to Bruce for sharing his knowledge on this endlessly complicated topic.
