This is Stormuren, which means big walls. It is a house that has been abandoned 100 years ago in Dalsland, Sweden. Since then, nature is busy to take this house back. First holes in the roof, made plants and trees grow inside the house, ants started eating parts of the facade, then after a storm, a big tree crashed into the house. Now that the roof is gone, the wood is fully exposed, the house is defenseless. In 10-20 years all the walls, floors, doors and window frames will be taken care of by nature, just leaving a pile of stones from the chimney and some rocks for the foundation.
By using biobased materials to build our buildings, nature is able to clean up after us, just as it does with its own materials, taking it back into its own cycle. These old Swedish houses build from local wood, with its biodegradable red paint, we can just leave in the hands of nature. Only the glass from the windows needs to be recycled.
Arknat August 22 is done! 3 more wooden shelters added to the collection, now 18 in total; 9 at Höga Kusten, 9 more in Skåne.
2 weeks with 15 inspirational students, designing, discussing, discovering and building.
Yesterday we finished the Leaf, the Lily’s and the Cone, all 3 spectacular and different. Thanks to all students, leaders, municipalies, and Mick at the lighthouse in Smygehuk.

Pilgrimage to one of the homes of wood building: the Stave church in Heddal, Norway. Built over 900 years ago and still going strong. The main structure at the inner shell is still the original wood specially cut and dried to get the best quality known to man at that time from experience of building Viking ships.
Inner shell and outer shell are disconnected to preserve the heart of the building.
The wood shingles on the outside are on the roof since the early 90 and are still in fine shape due to their treatment every 4 years.
NORWEGIAN WOOD!
More wood for De Warren! The glass facade for the big auditorium is being placed. Together with the laminated columns and beams, the CLT walls and the horizontal azobe beams in the facade and a little bit of sunlight, they make a beautiful spectacle.
The reclaimed wood facade is done on one side, progress is being made during the summer holidays!
Recycled wood on the facade! The facade cladding for is mounted. This recycled Azobé planks where harvested from the hull of old ships, cut to right dimensions and put on the facade for a new life. Window frames made from accoya wood.
Another under the belt. At 3 beautiful locations in Swedens Skåne, 15 students designed and built 3 new wind shelters in 2 weeks.
After a high pressure cooking design process with sketching, presenting, discussing, calculating and selecting, lectures from Håkan Risberg , Emina Kovacic and myself, students moved to the prefab phase preparing their shelters and them moved to the site for assambly.
Great result from all students; Agáta Kočířová (Agata Kocirova) , Christian Loutfi , Lotta Edlund , Silja Suitiala, Alexander Morell, Emma Donahue, Haya Alshahel , Katarzyna Waśniowska , David A. , Elisa Cognet , Hanna Clausen, Oscar Häggström, David Johnson and Emma Eiring .

For an upcoming project, our client dropped off a box with ingredients as preparation of the first big meeting. Not a program of requirements and a budget, but stories on local craftsmanships, agricultural traditions and 3 potential sites that should be investigated by people with different backgrounds. What an open mind to start a project!
