👋 Meet Barnabas from Hungary, a graduate of the Mechanical Engineering bachelor's 🎓at Hanze. Check out his story about finding an internship and career development in engineering.

"There’s a lack of people in the engineering field. So I think it’s definitely easier than many other fields. However, you should definitely look up information on the internet about how it all works. Because if you just moved out from your home country, you’ve gotten used to those rules. So now you have to check how things are done here to prepare yourself."

📚 How expensive is it to live in Groningen? The city offers an amazing experience, but planning your budget is important. Here's a detailed look at the average monthly costs for students:

🏠Renting a room or apartment in Groningen can vary, but on average, students spend about €650 per month on accommodation. This includes utilities.
🍏 Budget around €200 a month for groceries. This covers essential food items and occasional dining in inexpensive restaurants.
📖 Textbooks and study materials cost about €84 monthly. Buying second-hand books or using the library can help reduce this expense.
🚆 Students typically spend around €48 per month on buses and trains. Consider biking, as it’s a popular and economical way to get around!
🎉Enjoying a vibrant social life, including going out, sports, and other activities, averages around €130.
🛡️Health insurance is mandatory and can cost around €80 per month. The actual amount might vary for international students based on their specific insurance plans.
📱 Mobile phone expenses, including calls and data, usually cost about €20 per month.
💡 The total monthly expenses range from €800 to €1,100, excluding tuition. Want an active social life? You might need a bit more. Plan ahead and make the most of your time in this vibrant city! 🌍✨

👋Meet Susan 🇳🇱, a lecturer for the Bachelor of International Communication 👩‍🏫at Hanze. Besides lecturer, she is also an academic counsellor for students in the main phase of the programme (years 2, 3 and 4). Read her story about her experience and insights about the education approach at an applied sciences university.

'What I like about teaching at International Communication is that students work a lot in internationally/interculturally🌎 diverse groups on projects for real clients. For all students in a group this means being open and openminded towards each other👫. At an applied sciences university in the Netherlands, students gradually learn to be in charge of their own learning process which is something that could be very different than what international students are used to. We, as lecturers, always try to make everyone feel comfortable and safe in classes to make sure all students can adapt to this type of education (as much as possible in their own pace).

My main advice for new international students would be to give yourself time to adapt to the new country/city and to ask for help when needed. A lot of people are very willing to help you out as international in a new country 😊'

Happy weekend! ☀️

🐣 Happy Easter!

🌼 This weekend in the Netherlands, we’re celebrating Easter, a time of family-oriented traditions and spring festivities. One such tradition is the long breakfast or brunch where delightful treats like paasbrood are shared.

Another great event this weekend is the Bloemenjaarmarkt, the largest flower market in the heart of Groningen’s city centre! 🌷 This lovely market welcomes thousands of visitors each year and is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy Dutch culture and witness the beauty of the season.

What Easter or spring traditions do you have in your country? Let us know in the comments! 🌸

Meet Teodor👋, a graduate of the International Communication bachelor and a current Master's student in Interdisciplinary Business Studies at Hanze UAS. Read about his journey in Hanze and Groningen:

"When applying for my Bachelor's and also my Master's, I participated in different Open days and workshops to help me understand how things are done at Hanze. 🎓 I see such events as the perfect way to get in contact with students themselves and learn about the different experiences and possibilities Hanze has to offer. 🌟 Until graduating from high school I had never gone out of my home country, so I wanted to take that extra step and go abroad, to live on my own in a new environment. ✈️ I discovered the International Communication programme and knew that such a diverse course is exactly what I am looking for, and all these years later I don't regret it. After IC, I knew I wanted to challenge myself. I had a few programmes in mind in different Dutch universities but decided to stick with Hanze as the Interdisciplinary Business Studies Master seemed like the exact challenging unknown that I was looking for. 📚 Groningen will always be my second home, my love for the city is another reason I decided to stay here for my Master's. The city is so vibrant and full of students, yet it can feel very calm and relaxed. 🏙️ At one moment I'm in the city centre, a 15-minute cycle later and I'm exploring Dutch nature, surrounded by animals. 🚲🌳 As someone who grew up in a big capital city, living in a smaller city like Groningen always felt great. It really feels like the perfect place for students. 😊"
