Museum Murals x Museum Batavialand: TAXIS 🌟⚓

Street art en Lelystad: inmiddels een onafscheidelijk duo! De bijzondere connectie van Flevoland met water is een perfecte inspiratiebron voor kunstenaars. We vinden het te gek om samen met Museum Batavialand een nieuwe mural te realiseren voor Museum Murals.

TAXIS 👉🫧 Met zijn cartoon-geïnspireerde stijl zijn de enorme murals van de Griekse street artist altijd herkenbaar. Voor Museum Batavialand liet hij zich inspireren door het idee van herinneringen met betrekking tot de geschiedenis van Flevoland, en dan vooral met een focus op het maritieme cultuurlandschap en de scheepswrakken uit de collectie.

🌊 The massive murals of Greek street artist Taxis, known for his comic-inspired style, are easily recognizable. His work focuses on the human experience, exploring the daily inner struggles imposed by society. For the museum, Taxis is inspired by the idea of memory in Flevoland’s history, especially the maritime cultural landscape of shipwrecks which are part of the collection.

Introducing artist 1: .nespoon

Murals incoming! We’re partnering with to create three murals for three amazing museums in three cities 🤩 Together, we’ll bring art to the street! First up: NeSpoon for in our homebase Leeuwarden! Starting on July 5th, she’ll be transforming the wall of Restaurant Wannee at

💙 NeSpoon creates artworks at the intersection of urban art, painting, and traditional ceramics. She is known for her unique lace pattern artworks, a universal art form recognizable worldwide. Her works can be found in over 100 cities across 40 countries! NeSpoon draws inspiration for her artworks from the immediate surroundings of the piece.

🇳🇱: we realiseren de komende tijd samen met drie murals in drie steden voor drie geweldige musea 🤩 Als eerste: NeSpoon voor het Fries Museum in onze thuisbasis Leeuwarden! Vanaf 5 juli zal zij de muur van transformeren!

💙 NeSpoon creëert kunstwerken op het snijvlak van stedelijke kunst, schilderkunst en traditionele keramiek. Ze staat bekend om haar unieke kunstwerken met kantpatronen; een universele kunstvorm die overal ter wereld herkenbaar is. Haar werken zijn ook overal ter wereld te vinden; namelijk in al meer dan 100 steden!

Met hulp van

Opgegroeid naast een dromerig bos met nog meer dromen in haar hoofd, nodigt kunstenaar Roos Vink je uit in haar eigen mysterieuze wereld. Over de container, gemaakt op het Vliet in Leeuwarden, zegt ze dit:

Roos: "Een kleurrijke verwijzing naar de geschiedenis van het Vliet. Vroeger lag hier een waterweg. Vandaar het riet en de reiger, die staat op de abstracte grens van oud en nieuw, water en straat."

🇬🇧: Growing up next to a dreamy forest with even more dreams in her head, artist Roos Vink invites you into her mysterious world. She created this intricate container for Het Vliet.

Roos: "A colorful reference to the history of the Vliet. There used to be a waterway here. Hence the reeds and the heron, which stands on the abstract border of old and new, water and street."

Running since '85, Colorblind () brengt al jaren zijn kunst naar de straat. Als local legend weet hij als geen ander zijn stempel te drukken op het mooie Liwadden. Deze ondergedompelde container toont de verborgen wereld onder het water. Is dit wat je kon vinden in de voormalige stroming door het Vliet? 🌊🐳

🇬🇧: Running since '85, Colorblind (also known as .dns) has been bringing his art to the streets for years. As a local legend, he knows how to leave his mark on Leeuwarden like no one else. This submerged container shows an underwater life, perhaps of the former flow through the Vliet? 👀

Annabel Adema - Vissen, mieren en een hond op het Noordvliet
📍 Vliet, Leeuwarden

Na het verfraaien van de container bij de Grote Kerk in Leeuwarden, moesten we haar natuurlijk wel terugvragen! Deze kleurrijke container bevat 'classic' Annabel elementen, van mieren tot mensen 🤩

"Het werk is deels een verwijzing naar het kanaal wat vroeger door het vliet liep. Dit heb ik gecombineerd met wat de plek nu is; een plek waar je je afval weggooit in een gezellige woonwijk. Zo zijn in mijn werk veel vissen te zien, maar ook mieren, afval en een meisje met haar hond!

After decorating the container at the Grote Kerk in Leeuwarden, we of course had to ask her back! This colorful container contains 'classic' Annabel elements, from crawling ants to colorful people 🤩

"The work is partly a reference to the canal that used to run through the Vliet. I have combined this with what the place is now; a place where you throw away your waste in a pleasant residential area. Many fish can be seen in my work, but also ants, garbage and a girl with her dog!"

Edo Rath - Waar eens water was 🌊
📍Vliet, Leeuwarden

Waar nu auto’s over de weg rollen, stroomde voor de demping in 1996 het water door het Vliet. Deze historische waterstroom was de inspiratie voor street artist Edo Rath, die met zijn herkenbare stijl de container heeft omgetoverd tot kleurrijk geheel! 😍

Edo: “Hoe mooi zou het zijn als deze straat weer terug zou kunnen keren in zijn oorspronkelijke staat van water en vliet. Eb en vloed zal niet meer van toepassing zijn, maar Kades waaraan de karakteristieke huizen staan met op de dukdalf een meeuw die alle wedergekeerde rust gadeslaat. Er zijn bewoners die hun best doen om dit te bewerkstelligen. Die situatie heb ik geprobeerd weer te geven in mijn artwork. Alvast een sneak peek op een mooie zomeravond aan het Vliet, een blik naar het verleden en voor wellicht velen een wenselijke toekomst.”

EN: Cars drive across the Vliet driveway where once water flowed. Taking cues from this historic watercourse, street artist Edo Rath transformed the containers with his signature colorful style, giving the area a whole new vibe!

Edo: “How beautiful would it be if this street could return to its original state of water and canal? Ebb and flow will no longer apply, but quays where the characteristic houses stand with a seagull perched on the bollard, observing all the returned tranquility. Some residents are trying to achieve this. I have tried to depict that situation in my artwork. A sneak peek at the Vliet on a beautiful summer evening, a glimpse into the past and perhaps a desirable future for many.”

Het is een (Europapa)paint party! 🤩 Kunstenaars Colorblind en Don Slizerone zijn gisteren begonnen met hun giga Joost Klein-geïnspireerde mural en vandaag is deze te bewonderen! Met de mural wensen we ‘onze’ Friesenjung veel succes op het Eurovisie Songfestival, komende halve finale én beyond! Dus, , Sukses op it Songfestival!

🇬🇧:  It's a (Europapa) paint party! Artists Colorblind and Don Slizerone have started their gigantic Joost Klein-inspired mural today! With the mural, we wish 'our' Friesenjung good luck at the Eurovision Song Contest, upcoming semifinals, and beyond! 💙

📍Vliet, Leeuwarden

Don Slizerone creëerde deze voetbal-geinspireerde containers op het Vliet. Met Cambuurstadion op steenworp (of voetbal-inworp) afstand van de containers, is het een perfecte tribute aan deze iconische omgeving. 💛

“Het werk heb ik ‘Etsje’ genoemd. Ik kwam er later achter dat het clublied van Cambuur over Eelke en Etsje gaat. Het nummer gaat over de gewone man die het tegen de gevestigde orde moet afleggen. De doodgewone mensen, Jan met de pet, die niet worden gehoord door de instanties, maar desondanks zo gastvrij blijven. Het stadion mag dan wel binnenkort weggaan, dit werk kan als leuke herinnering aan het stadion nog heel lang blijven staan.”

🇬🇧: Don Slizerone created this football-inspired piece on his containers on the Vliet street. With the Cambuurstadium just a stone's throw (or a football throw) away from the containers, it's a perfect tribute to the iconic environment. ⚽

"I named the work 'Etsje'. I later discovered that the Cambuur club song is about Eelke and Etsje. The song is about the ordinary man who has to compete against the established order. The ordinary people, the average Joes, who are not heard by the authorities, yet remain so hospitable. While the stadium may soon be gone, this work can stand as a nice reminder of the stadium for a long time."

Street artist AERO (Leeuwarden peeps: je kent hem van de gigantische portretten aan de Rengerslaan) sloot zich nog een keer bij ons aan om niet alleen één muurschildering, maar een heel gebouw onder handen te nemen! Dit toeristische punt in de groene omgeving van Bakkeveen zal nu zeker nóg beter gezien worden! Aero brengt de lokale natuur tot leven in dit opvallen oranjegetinte werk, van herten in herfstkleuren tot bosrijke uitjes. 🤩

Street artist Aéro Créaéro Décograff () joined us once more to take on not only a mural, but a whole building in the green area of Bakkeveen! This tourist point will definitely be seen now! AERO brings out the spirit of the local nature and fauna in bright orange and red colors, we love it! 🧡❤️

Naomi King - That what binds us: the strongest connection

A little throwback to one of the most fulfilling and amazing projects we realized in 2023 💜 In the heat of the summer in a neighborhood in Lelystad, residents came together to create one big colorful mural! We invited artist Naomi King to lead the project, which she did with amazing enthusiasm and positivity! The result: more than 200 helping hands and a ton of good vibes 🌞 Amazing memories ✨

🇳🇱: Een terugblik op een van de meest vervullende en geweldige projecten die we in 2023 hebben gerealiseerd 💛 In de brandende zomerhitte kwamen de bewoners van de Waterwijk in Lelystad bijeen om één grote kleurrijke muurschildering te maken! Onder leiding van kunstenaar Naomi King, die als kapitein van het schip het enthousiasme en de creativiteit aanwakkerde van de buurt, ontstond dit grote kunstwerk. Het resultaat: meer dan 200 helpende handen en heel veel goede vibes 🌞
