Here at ISL we have our EAL (English Additional Language) curriculum in place. Supporting our non native English speakers through small group intervention.

It is important to us that our students do not feel overwhelmed while transitioning and our curriculum gives them the support and reassurance that they are doing just fine! 📕👊

Today at ISL, we officially launched our school meals programme, together with TommyTomato! Providing the opportunity for our students to eat deliciously healthy warm meals. With over 20 nationalities already part of our community, it was important for us to reach all of our families needs. 🍅🍆🫑🥕🥔🥦🥑🥬🥒

If nothing else, it saves time in the morning! 😍

Sometimes it's just a good day, to have a good day. ❄️❄️❄️❄️

Today Mr Deon took some time out of his morning to sit with a group of our students and let them share their ideas on what they would like to see develop within our school.

At ISL it is important to us that our students feel heard, not just in the classroom but school wide. Giving our students these opportunities helps them develop and gain the confidence to speak out, helping them on their path to becoming global active citizens.

For the second time, ISL was invited to give a presentation at one of Het LEF (Leiden Education Fieldlab) events, this time the 'International Education Conference'. The school principal Mr Deon Du Plessis talked about how to create a pleasant and engaging school,along with his valuable insights on internationalisation and citizenship. Mr Deon also shared the importance of a positive culture within his team, how he achieves this and the reasons behind why his school is so successful. Strong leadership and recognition were just some of the points he touched on.

ISL is proud to be part of a city that is growing in so many ways and to share our insight into the future of international education, here in Leiden.

Thank you to Het LEF for once again hosting such a positive event and bringing together so many people to help achieve this goal. 🌍 ❤️

At ISL we are proud that we encourage our students to become independent and take ownership of their own learning. Having the platforms in place to help them grow in confidence both inside and outside the classroom. These are just some of the programmes, here at ISL.

Each programme plays its own important part in our students development, understanding and growth. Specifically designed to make learning even more enjoyable, exciting and rewarding. Helping them develop a sense of responsibility towards themselves, respect for each other and their environment.

Today we had the opportunity for all our families (old and new) to get together and get to know each other. At ISL we believe in the difference our families can make to not just our students development but to our school as a whole. They are just as important as the students we have.

Today they hopefully made new contacts, new friends and may be feel that little bit more at home, here in Leiden! 🤞🏠🌎

Books allow people to experience the pleasure of reading, opening up a world of fun, enjoyment and learning for children, young people and adults. At ISL we promote the love we have for reading!

THANK YOU to everybody who has donated books to ISL, from our very own families, through to members of our local community. Our International section is also forever growing, giving our students the opportunity to embrace new (or familiar languages). Italian, German, French and Hindi to name a few!

We are looking forward to next months Kinderboekenweek (book week) with some wonderful activities to enhance our love for reading! 🌍💚📔📚

That is why this weekend some of our team will be following the opening of the rugby world cup VERY closely. This may define their moods for the coming weeks...... 🏉🏆

This week we welcomed Amy van Vliet - van der Wal from Race Against Waste to talk about their Textiel Race, a wonderful initiative about the production of clothing, the impact it has on the environment and what we as citizens can do to help reduce our own carbon footprint.

The Textile Race combines education with a cool collection campaign and makes repairing and collecting old and broken textiles fun, educational and easy. Our students have already collected bags of clothes and we haven't even started yet!

And just like that, ISL starts its 2023-24 academic year! So proud to welcome all of our new families AND see our existing families back, knowing what we achieved last year and trusting in our future. 🙏

Last year we opened our doors to 4 students.....this school year we will be welcoming over 28 different nationalities, more than 40 new families and wonderful additions to strengthen our team from all around the world🌍!
