As we do today, the Greeks and Romans struggled to communicate their pain: this required a rich and subtle vocabulary which had to be developed over time. "Pain Narratives", edited by Jacqueline Clarke, Daniel King, and Han Baltussen, traces the development of this language in literary, philosophical, and medical texts from across antiquity: poets, physicians, and philosophers contributed to an ever-growing lexicon to articulate their own and othersโ feelings.

Advocacy, Conceptualization, Institutionalization
Merrill. D. Whitburn analyzes the advocacy, conceptualization, and institutionalization of rhetoric from 1770 to 1860. Among the forces promoting advocacy was the need for oratory calling for independence, the belief that using rhetoric was the way to succeed in biblical interpretation and preaching, and the desire for rhetoric as entertainment.

Pia Guldager Bilde's book, edited by Susan Rotroff, opens up a new window into the world through a close study of bowls, their places of production (both in the and the Mediterranean), iconographies and distribution. The authorโs unique access to material in the Black Sea Region provides the backbone to a rare comparative approach to an important type of vessel that traditionally has been studied in local isolation.
