Yves Sohege from CropTimize will tell us about their AI & Constraint Optimisation-based solution desired to help CEA farmers. 🌱
CEA (Controlled-environment agriculture) is an indoor technology-based approach toward food production. The aim of CEA is to provide protection from the outdoor elements and maintain optimal growing conditions. It helps to get stable harvests in climate-change circumstances.
🌻 To achieve this goal, every CEA Farmer must consistently search for the most profitable seeds for their farm and overcome high energy consumption.
These problems are linked, and currently, no solution on the market optimizes both.
CropTimize introduces a solution which can overcome both of these challenges. They combine AI and Constraint Optimisation (a mathematical programming method) and allow to a selection of the most profitable seed based on the expected energy consumption to complete the growth under fully controlled conditions. It, therefore, helps in the optimisation of CEA farmers' profits.

Pilou Bazin will tell us about building an Atlas of the Human Deep Brain Nuclei, Connections, and Vasculature
🧠 Have you ever wondered how difficult it is for neurosurgeons to determine the exact target during deep brain surgical procedures?
To solve this problem, Dr. Bazin and his colleagues developed a technology combining ultra-high field MRI with 3D microscopy.
🗺️ It allows for building detailed deep brain maps. Then surgeries can use these maps to increase the targeting precision.

👁️November Cafe is coming!
Time to introduce our speakers.
Alejandro Ortega will tell us about – a company aimed to change traditional production systems.
Alejandro Ortega and Daniela Arias used data science and machine learning to understand billions of protein structures from different species of edible insects.
🐝 They developed an isolation technology that converts any insect into highly functional macromolecules and improves their value proposition to the market with simultaneously reducing processing costs and time.
The process is green and chemical-free and allows the separation of macromolecules from insects, such as proteins, fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, and even chitin. It provides an opportunity to replace traditional ingredients with better materials by reducing risk, time, and effort to find the right materials, the best product applications, and structuring their supply chain.
🪲Also, Sibö helps food manufacturers reduce CO2 emissions during the production of these ingredients by 95% comparing current ones.

Binanox are the 2022 iGEM Leiden team.
is a competition for students from all over the world to use synthetic biology to solve societal problems.
More than 350 teams participate every year.
will introduce its nanoparticles for head and neck cancer therapy.
🔬 Their project is based on a photothermal therapy in which metal nanoparticles kill the tumor cells.
During this treatment, a doctor injects the nanoparticles directly into the tumor. The tumor is afterward exposed to a laser, and the metal converts this light into heat that kills the tumor cells.
However, existing nanoparticles are not optimal for transferring heat to the tumor.
The Binanox team transform E.coli to produce protein-based nanoparticles with better properties for photothermal therapy.
