Brain experiment suggests that consciousness relies on quantum entanglement 02/02/2023

The heartbeat is not just the motion of an organ within our body. Rather, the heart, like many other parts of our body, is engaged in two-way communication with the brain — the organs both send each other signals.

Unlocking the ‘gut microbiome’ – and its massive significance to our health 12/07/2021

Eat more fibre Most of us eat only half the recommended 30g a day. But start slowly – our guts don’t like rapid change

Eat the rainbow Choose colourful fruits and vegetables and try to eat
30 different plants, nuts and seeds every week

Eat foods rich in polyphenols These include dark chocolate and red wine

Eat fermented foods Tim Spector favours kombucha, kefir and kimchi, as well as unpasteurised cheeses

Eat more omega 3 New research suggests a relationship between gut microbes, omega 3 and brain health

Let kids play with dirt and dogs Jack Gilbert’s research has shown that since the gut’s population is seeded in early life, allowing small children to dig in soil and play with domestic animals can undo a lot of the damage modern lifestyles do to our microbiomes

Avoid processed foods Cut back on salt and sugar, both of which seem to affect microbial diversity in the gut

If you struggle with hair loss or know someone who does, you know just how exasperating it can be. Regardless of whether dealing with thinning hair or large bald spots, many people experience frustration and self-esteem issues due to their loss of hair.

Hair loss is more common than you may think. It doesn’t matter if you’re a man or woman, young or old, tall or short. The truth is that anyone can experience hair loss, regardless of their age, gender, and stature.

What is hair loss?

Hair loss is commonly referred to as “alopecia.” Alopecia is a blanket term that refers to many different conditions related to hair loss. It can refer to conditions such as hereditary balding (androgenic alopecia) or even alopecia areata, which is when the body’s immune system begins attacking the hair follicles resulting in patchy bald spots.1

Factors that contribute to hair loss

While there are many factors that can contribute to hair loss, some of the most common ones include:

Age
Stress and anxiety
Illness
Malnourishment
Hormones
Medications
Genes
Overall health
Not all hair loss is the same

Not everyone experiences hair loss in the same way. Some individuals may experience a gradual thinning of the hair with age, while others may experience more drastic hair loss, such as losing it in large clumps. Regardless, it’s important to check with your doctor to determine what is causing your alopecia. This can also help you to find out if your hair loss is indicative of a more serious health condition.

Essential oil blends for hair loss

hair dressing applying essential oils to woman's hair

It’s important to remember that a little goes a long way with essential oils. Because they are highly concentrated substances, only a small amount is needed. If not diluted properly, essential oils can cause irritation and sensitization, so make sure to always dilute them accordingly.

Here are two blends that I’ve created for hair loss. Feel free to use just one blend or both, the choice is yours.

Hair-loss blend #1

Lavender–12 drops
Peppermint–4 drops
Rosemary–4 drops
Hair-loss blend #2

Geranium–6 drops
Cedarwood–6 drops
Chamomile–5 drops
Clary Sage–3 drops
Thoroughly combine each of the blends and store them in a dropper bottle. Use one or both of them to treat hair loss in one of the following ways…

Shampoo

Add 1-3 drops to your shampoo each time you wash your hair. Gently massage into hair and scalp and rinse as normal.

Scalp oil

Add 1-2 drops of essential oil blend to ½ tsp. jojoba oil and gently massage into scalp. Leave on scalp or shampoo if needed.

Fresh Beet Juice

According to recent studies, drinking a glass of fresh beet juice have immediate impact of lowering your blood pressure. Beetroot contains high levels of dietary nitrate, which the body converts into biologically active nitrite and nitric oxide. These findings suggest dietary nitrate as an affordable, readily-available, natural treatment for hypertension.

A simple beetroot and ginger detox juice recipe – loaded with vitamins, minerals and antioxidants to help your body detox and add much-needed nutrients.

This beetroot, ginger and lemon juice is a great detox juice option for anyone following a juice cleanse, looking for an immune booster and wanting to pack in more essential nutrients for the body.

Steps:

Start by washing/ scrubbing your beets and ginger. Peel and cut the beets into small pieces that you can feed into the juicer.

You don’t need to peel the ginger if it’s organic, just make sure it’s small enough to feed into the juicer.

Simply feed the ginger then the beetroot into your juicer and voila.

Lastly, add the lemon juice. You can either pass the lemon though the juicer, if you remove the rind. Or you can just squeeze it separately and add it to the beetroot ginger juice.

The juice is best consumed fresh, to get the maximum amount of nutrients. You can also divide it into 2 servings or into smaller shot-size portions (60ml).

You could add apple juice to the mix - the burst of sweetness will cut through the 'spice' of ginger and earthy beetroot (3-4 apples added to the recipe)
If lemon isn't what you're in the mood for then you could add orange juice to this recipe instead. Not only will it help sweeten the combination - it pairs wonderfully with ginger and beetroot and adds extra vitamin c to the juice.
This last one might sound a bit weird - but sometimes all you need is to serve your juice with some ice-cubes and that's enough to make it feel more refreshing and easier to drink.

Did you know how healthy peas are?

There are many people who think that peas are a poor man’s meat or a cheap restaurant side – dish which puts green on your plate but they do not know how healthy peas are. These are small powerhouses of nutrition which are a boon for our health. Although green-peas are considered as a vegetable, this actually is a fruit because they have seeds developed from a flower. These are the immature seed of dried peas and they are often called flied peas. Dried seeds have been eaten for over 5000 years and they were staple during the Middle Ages. Canada is the largest producer of peas in the world. This vegetable has high quality protein that many commercial protein powders are starting to use it in their products. These have a substance which is known as purines. This is a reason why people who suffer from gout or kidney disorders should not eat green-peas.

Health benefits of peas

Reduces bad cholesterol: Peas have niacin which can help you to reduce the production of triglycerides and very low – density lipoprotein (VLDL) which results in lowered triglycerides, increased high density lipoprotein (the good cholesterol) and less bad cholesterol.

Healthy bones: It is known fact that just one cup has 44% of your daily required Vitamin K intake which can help you to anchor calcium inside your bones. Also it has Vitamin B which can help you to prevent osteoporosis.

Prevent constipation: Peas have high fiber content which improves bowel health and peristalsis.

Heart disease prevention: They have many anti – inflammatory and antioxidant components which support healthy blood vessels. It is known fact that the formation of plaque along our blood vessels starts with chronic and excessive oxidative stress and inflammation. Peas have high amounts of Vitamin B6, Vitamin B3, Vitamin B2 and Vitamin B1 and folate which reduce the homocysteine levels which are risk factors for the heart disease.

peas – powerhouse of nutrition

Stomach cancer: This vegetable has capacity to prevent dangerous disorders such as stomach cancer. Peas have protective polyphenol content which is called coumestrol and it is known to prevent cancer which is abundant in peas.

Blood sugar regulation: It is known fact that high fibre slows and protein slows down how fast sugars are digested. Peas have anti – inflammatory and anti – oxidant properties which can prevent or reverse insulin resistance, type 2 diabates. All carbohydrates are natural sugars and starches with no chemicals or white sugars which can worry you.

Weight loss: This vegetable is a low fat and a low calorie food. Peas are mostly included in vegetarian and non – vegetarian diets because they are ease in the managing body weight. Green veggies are a good source for overall health. Peas help in managing your weight effectively. These are relatively low in calories compared to beans and cowpeas.

Essential Oils for Rotator Cuff Pain

Essential oils commonly used in massage and aromatherapy are effective in relieving sore muscles, aches and pains. Rotator cuff tendinitis (also known as pitcher's shoulder or impingement syndrome) is inflammation of the tendons around the shoulder joint. These tendons may become inflamed due to arthritis, injury or overuse. The essential oils listed below are specifically used to relieve pain and inflammation, and can be applied to the shoulder or other joints of the body.

🌱Lavender
Lavender is one of the most popular essential oils used as of October 2009. The National Institute of Health (NIH) recognizes that lavender essential oil used in aromatherapy can be relaxing and relieve anxiety. It also notes there is enough evidence to suggest lavender has a small positive effect. The NIH lists several uses of lavender essential oil, including pain, neck pain, low back pain, and overall well-being. Lavender oil used in massage therapy is not only useful for relaxation, but it may be helpful in relieving pain and inflammation associated with rotator cuff tendinitis.

🌱Peppermint
Peppermint oil is one of the least expensive and most readily available therapeutic oils. It also is one of the few essential oils considered safe for internal use. It is commonly found in toothpastes, gums and teas. Used topically, it helps to relax tense muscles. According to a study by the University of Maryland Medicine, it has even been shown to help relieve tension headaches. Peppermint oil is used in massage and aromatherapy to relieve sore muscles and for general aches and pains.

🌱Chamomile
"chamomile is a highly effective anti-inflammatory." Inflammation is one of the chief causes of pain with rotator cuff tendinitis. Chamomile essential oil also is used for headache, muscle pain and low back pain.

🌱Clary Sage
Clary sage is commonly used in massage because it is beneficial in relieving muscle spasm and cramps. It has a powerful relaxing effect and is often combined with chamomile to relieve tension and stress.

🌱Sweet Marjoram
Sweet marjoram is another pain reliever and is also mildly sedative, but it has powerful effects on pain and stiffness. It is recommended for rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, which makes it an excellent choice for inflammation of the shoulders and other joints.

🌱Vetiver
Vetiver is a little-known oil that is used for arthritis, stiffness, pain and muscle soreness, all of which are symptoms of rotator cuff tendinitis. vetiver "increases venous circulation to help detoxification of tissues."

Method of use
To use essential oils therapeutically, add two to three drops of any of the above oils to jojoba or other carrier oil in the palm of the hand. Rub gently into the shoulder, neck, upper arm and under arm area. Experiment and try combining two or more oils to enhance the effects. Lavender and sweet marjoram, or peppermint and chamomile make nice blends. After rubbing into the shoulder area, apply a heating pad or hot water bottle for 10 to 15 minutes and allow the oils to pe*****te the shoulder joint. Wash hands thoroughly to avoid getting the oils into the eyes.

How to Make Wintergreen Alcohol Rub for Joint Pain

Arthritis, characterized by swollen, aching joints, is inflammation of the joint tissues and can be quite painful, especially in the case of rheumatoid arthritis, which can sometimes be crippling. The most common areas for swollen joints are around the elbows, fingers and wrists, as well as the occasional ankle. Finding a quick way to relieve joint pain is important, but finding a natural remedy for it makes it even better.

Locate a glass container with a sealable lid, such as a mason jar.

Pour in 2 oz. of oil of eucalyptus, 2 oz. of oil of wintergreen and 2 oz of the witch hazel.

Seal the lid on your container and shake all three ingredients together until well mixed. Uncap lid.

Add 2 oz. of isopropyl alcohol to the mixture, stirring well. Close lid and shake mixture until it is consistent.

Store in an easy-to-use container and apply directly on aching joints as a rub three times daily or as needed.

Tips
Be sure to give the mixture a good shake each time before application.

Another remedy for joint pain with similar ingredients is 12 oz. isopropyl alcohol, 1 oz. wintergreen oil and 3 oz. chloroform, mixed well and used as a rub.
