On October 6th, we celebrated our 2018/2019 cohort with their graduation from the IBCoM programme. It was a day full of love, gratitude and pride. We are so proud of every one of you for all your hard work and dedication…and can’t wait to see how you IBCoM graduates will continue to shape the world! ⭐️
With last week marking the end of the IBCoM resit period, most of you have officially begun your summer break!! Wishing you lots of sunshine, relaxation, and recharging 😌☀️ - we’ll see you in fall 2022!
On Wednesday 22 June 2022, colleagues and students from the Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication come together to reflect on the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, and the roles of media, history, and European politics. Since our last meeting in March, the war in Ukraine has begun to be overshadowed in the press by other stories, and we hope to once more focus our attention on Ukraine.
Members of Erasmus University Rotterdam and members of the public are welcome to join our short lunchtime meeting, taking place via zoom. Staff and students from Erasmus School of History, Culture and Communication will give a brief introduction to the topic from the perspective of their own research, to be followed by time for questions and discussion.
Speakers bring their diverse research expertise on history, media, and culture to help us to understand the origins and dynamics of the current conflict.

Congratulations to all our BA-3 students for reaching yesterday’s last thesis deadline! After 5 months of intense researching and 3 years of studying, the IBCoM programme is now coming to an end 🥲. Wishing you all a great (and well-deserved) summer break, and we’ll see you soon. ✨
Today at 19:00, Studium Generale is organizing a film screening of the documentary Feels Good Man with an introduction by dr. Daniel Trottier. See the information below:
How does a crude drawing of a little frog turn into a symbol of hate? That is the question that documentary maker Arthur Jones tries to answer in Feels Good Man. Following the creator of the infamous internet meme ‘Pepe the Frog’, this movie shows how the cartoon character was conceived, started living a life of his own, and slowly became co-opted by the alt- and extreme right. Can you still get your creation back once it has turned into a meme? And what is the role of memes in extremism?

Last week, the 2021-2022 IBCoMpanion programme came to a close! We were so happy to be able to host a little celebration for our amazing team who made this year so special for our first year students (despite all the hurdles the year brought them!).
Our third and final IBCoM student representative of 2021/2022 is the lovely Lisa!
“Hi! My name is Lisa and for my second year as student representative I will be representing both BA-2 & BA-3. I am always open for any ideas, feedback or issues related to your programme. Also feel free to reach out for a casual chat!”
Does the idea of failing an exam or your thesis stress you out? Or the thought of not passing with a high grade? Scared about failing in your future career? We hear you and yes we have all been there. Really. But what can we do about this? What kind of coping strategies are there? Join this session to gain insights and practical tips on how to build resiliency. In the end, it's not about failing, but about bouncing back, and learning from those experiences.
This workshop is offered in collaboration with Erasmus X. They are focused on helping students to develop themselves in the best way they can, so they are prepared to meet the ever-changing demands of the future. Together with ESHCC Skills Lab, Erasmus X will host this workshop at their location in Rotterdam South. This is a very interactive session where you get to talk, discuss, build, and learn!

“Becoming an IBCoMpanion was a great way to bond with our classmates and to meet new students from first year. It can be a really fulfilling experience to help new students feel at home in Rotterdam - and a great thing to add to your resume too!”

“Hi everyone! My name is Doğa and I’m one of the student representatives for IBCoM first year’s students. As a fellow BA-1 student, I am aware of the general struggles of the students. For some of you the decision to choose a master, and which one, will be coming up soon. This can be quite a difficult process and we would gladly like to offer our support. Therefore, tomorrow, on Thursday 17 March, ESHCC will host the 'How To Choose Your Master Panel'.
During this panel you can ask questions to current master students, as well as alumni. These students and alumni come from all programs within our faculty, as well as outside of the EUR, so you will be able to ask all your questions! From how to figure out what you like, to how to apply, to how studying at a different univeristy (or differenty country) works, to taking a gap year.
Additionally, there will also be a short presentation from one of our student advisors about the ESHCC masters and the application process.
What: How To Choose Your Master Panel
When: Thursday 17 March, 17:00-18:30
Where: Sanders 0.04

Last but not least… our final internship testimonial comes from the lovely Simona, who interned at Luminor! Her tip for students:
“I know it might sound cliche but to not stop searching! I know that sometimes it might seem impossible to find an internship, especially during these uncertain times, but try to not lose hope and I promise you, it will pay off!”
Next on our internship testimonial lineup we have the lovely Rosina! She completed her internship at the Ti Bisou Crêperie in Haarlem! Her advice for future interns:
“One thing I wasn’t prepared for was the long commute, so I would suggest thinking about this if your internship is offline.” 🌷
Have you heard the good news? We can finally get together again!!
On Wednesday, March 9 from 19:00, all M&C students, staff and teachers are invited for celebratory drinks at Cafe De Beurs. The first early birds will get their first drink free.
Please RSVP on the page (link in bio) if you’ll be attending. 🥳

Introducing our new Exchange and Programme Coordinator - Yara! “Hello everyone! My name is Yara and as of last Monday I am part of the Education Professional Services team! A little bit about me: in 2016 I graduated IBCoM and after that I went to the UvA to follow the Master Communication Science with a focus on Entertainment Communication. Before starting this new adventure I took a small sabbatical after having worked for the Gemeente Rotterdam where I was part of the team that organized the 2021 general elections. I have only been here for a few days, but I am already very excited to be back where my student life once began to make sure students get same great experience I have had. Feel free to get in touch with me through Teams!”
