👾 TEC ART presents Radiant Voids @ Katoenhuis 🕳
Wednesday 31 Jan - Sunday 4 Feb
Enter the realm of 𝙍𝙖𝙙𝙞𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙑𝙤𝙞𝙙𝙨, an exhibition at the intersection of art and technology that manifests amid the massive emptiness of the monumental former Cotton House in the M4H Rotterdam area. Digital phenomena infiltrate the physical world and illuminate the way. Traverse vast spaces that are transmorphed with audiovisual installations into a sensory experience of warped perceptions and distorted realities.
🛸 Do not be afraid, the outside world will (hopefully) continue to exist.

After last year's spring edition, TEC ART Festival was back again in the city center of Rotterdam from February 8 - 12 for its ten year anniversary during a traditional winter edition of Rotterdam Art Week!
Crazy celebrations call for mad themes, so we were proud to announce TEC ART '23 is the kick-off for the organisation's year long thematic research into the theme of... DRUGS!
The topic of drugs is urgent not only because of the never-ending, inefficient war on drugs and Big Pharma's monopoly, but also because of the increasing intertwinement with technology in the form of recreational biotec designer drugs such as 4-FMP, Benzo Fury and 2C-B.
How can we move away from the repressive policies, pushing drug use into illegality and creating a dangerous shadow economy that has a tight grip on both individual users and society as a whole? What does it take to move towards an act of legalization, acknowledging the positive relation between drugs and the development of our art and culture?

TEC ART presents a mind-altering festival program, including a scientific symposium on drugs, an outdoor and indoor expo with mega installations and upcoming talents, two club nights and an obscure cultfilm screening.
The thematic research into drugs comes to a high point during GOGBOT Festival from September 7 - 10 in Enschede, but first enjoy this psychedelic edition of TEC ART.
To celebrate TEC ART’s tenth anniversary, the festival kicks off with a long-cherished wish of the organisation: a taboo-breaking scientific symposium around the controversial topic of drugs.

There are few teetotalers to be found in the history of art. We are not just talking about alcohol consumption. From o***m, hashish and L*D to co***ne and M**A, many drugs influenced the way artists lived and worked. This sometimes resulted in tragic stories, but it also produced much extraordinary, beautiful, or groundbreaking art.
DRUGS have influenced the development of our art and culture more positively than has been recognized to date. In opposition we find a particularly repressive drug policy, especially internationally. By pushing drug trafficking and drug use into illegality, a dangerous shadow economy has emerged that has a tight grip on both individual users and society as a whole.
More and more voices are calling for drugs to therefore be legalized like alcohol. In this episode of the TEC ART symposium, we provide a platform for a plea for legalization, but also show what is involved in the act of legalization. However, we begin with a history lesson discussing 100 years of drugs in art and design. Finally, it’s all about removing the oppressive view of drugs in art and culture.
SPEAKERS
Jos ten Berge, assistant professor at the Free University in Amsterdam, specializing in outsider art, primitivism, and visual art of the 19th and 20th centuries. Ten Berge received his doctorate on the history of drugs in art in his dissertation ‘From O***m to L*D’.
Machteld Busz, co-founder of the Poppi Drug Museum in Amsterdam and director of Stichting Mainline, an organization dedicated to the health and human rights of drug users.
Gjalt-Jorn Peters, researcher at the University of Maastricht, specializing in psychology and behavior change. Among other things, he wrote 'Why legalization of XTC prevents health damage and casualties'.

TEC ART 2020 QUANTUM SUPREMACY
"Quantum supremacy is a revolutionary breakthrough of technological superiority. Google, Microsoft and other major technical companies and collaborators are working on this development. As a result, quantum computers will soon perform calculations in 3 minutes, which the fastest computer of today would take about 10,000 years!
What does this technological superiority mean for our near future? "
With Quantum Supremacy TEC ART this year has a mind-blowing, controversial but urgent theme. Quantum supremacy stands for that moment when a quantum computer will outperform a classical computer in unimaginable revolutionary ways. It is claimed that quantum computers will be 1 billion times faster than present day computers! Google, Microsoft, IBM and other companies and their collaborators worldwide are competing to reach quantum supremacy and to develop a consumer grade quantum computer. Competition is fierce. When Google claimed to have reached quantum supremacy mid 2019 it was criticized and denied by other developers and critics immediately. It seems, however, they are getting close.
How would it be to live in a quantum future? Can we co-create it?
