We're very happy to share with you some images from the International Conference of project, which happened in Rome during the Sabir last Friday, October 11th. The event was hosted by our partner and project coordinator Lunaria , which we thank once again for taking care of everything.

Our Project Manager Barbara Gecse attended the conference in presence while our Network Director, Balint Josa, intervened online to share the Hungarian perspective on racism in sport.

The whole conference was the occasion to have interesting conversations on the topics of racism and discrimination but it was also the chance for all the partners to share projects results including the social media campaign and the online training course.

It was also particularly relevant to have this event during the well renown Sabir Festival and with the participation of Mattia Peradotto, Coordinator of Ufficio Antidiscriminazioni Razziali-Presidenza del Consiglio dei Ministri , the Italian AntiDiscrimination Department of the Council of the Ministries.

This is why the ‘Monitora’ project was born, to build a 𝐧𝐞𝐰 𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 based on the principles of 𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧, 𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐨𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬, 𝐬𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐲 and 𝐟𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲.

When false claims and worrying narratives surrounding refugees spread out, it's our duty to intervene and contrast this phenomena, most and foremost to protect those who are targeted and that should always be protected by the right to a safe refuge, which include the respect of their human dignity.

For this reason we are very happy to announce that thanks to the Refugin project , we have a great training available!

🧑‍🏫Together with the longstanding one, dedicated to Educational and Civic professionals working with displaced youth through 3 modules (available here 📌 https://shorturl.at/MjYsn) , this amazing project has now designed a training initiative for Youngsters in Refugee-like situations!

This short course is specially designed for young people navigating the challenges of displacement, and throughout its 4 modules aims to enhance their skills across interpersonal, intrapersonal, and socio-cultural dimensions. It aims to provide support, tips, and suggestions so these can better manage their new challenges!

To better address young refugees specific needs, the training initiative has two different courses:

We could take the example of movies and series, which according to a fundamental article by J. Bennett (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1111/j.1468-2311.2006.00408.x ), have evolved in how they depict crime and punishment, and the media’s role in these, showcasing evolving societal attitudes towards the criminal justice system.

𝗕𝘂𝘁, 𝘄𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘄𝗲 𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄?
‼The media’s portrayal of prisons, and those sentenced for violent actions, highly influence public perceptions, often filling the gap left by limited personal experience or other sources of information.

➡This isn’t negative per se, since media can set benchmarks for acceptable and humane treatment, translating complex issues into accessible narratives.

As a result, we should promote a communication that:

✔Humanises prisons and those serving their sentences
✔Highlights successful (re)integration stories, yet fully accounting for the different needs and obstacles
✔Promotes community acceptance and participation

📌 Bottom line: A successful transition from prison to community is a shared effort, which accounts for vulnerabilities but emphasises strengths and development.
