Last week 2nd, 3rd and 4th-year students visited in den Haag where herself gave them a tour through her exhibition “Close Distance”.

So much fun! Thank you Carla for the tour and the inspiring talks!

Last week, a group of 3rd and 4th-year students of .fineart hopped on the fun bus to visit studio!

Sam, last year’s award winner, filled them in on what life is like in Blaricum, sharing his experiences and offering a peek into his practice.

Every year, picks a graduating student from .fineart for the Stipend Award, which comes with a work grant and a year’s free studio space in Blaricum.

We can’t wait to see who wins this year!!

In “ Schommelschip” Sietske and Guus explore how their work relates to each other in the unique environment of the Exbunker. The exhibition invites you to approach the room with a playful attitude.

Glass workshop with !

As the artist in residency at Air Pastoe, Ana shared her expertise on working with glass during an inspiring workshop. She explained to students how she incorporates glass into her practice and different techniques for working with this material.

Students had the opportunity to ask her questions and seeking advice on incorporating glass into their own artistic practice.

Every year, 37PK selects a recently graduated alumnus of HKU Fine Arts for a three-month working period in the Haarlem residency studio DOC4.

From the 2023 graduating class, the choice fell on the young artist Baoyang Zhao. Zhao, originally from China, was paired with Haarlem artist to work together during the residency period toward an exhibition at 37PK.

The show will be on view until the 18th of May! Don’t miss it!

Met de tentoonstelling Onzichtbaar Verlies zetten zeven jonge kunstenaars het werk van de overleden Caro Jacobs voort. De (oud)HKU’ers tonen hun werk rondom thema’s als schaamte, eenzaamheid en zingeving, elk met epilepsie als uitgangspunt.

Alumna Caro had een moeilijke vorm van epilepsie. Tijdens haar studie aan HKU kwam ze erachter dat het beoefenen van kunst kan helpen om de impact van een aandoening te erkennen. Met haar tentoonstelling hoopte ze het taboe rondom het onzichtbare verlies bij epilepsie bespreekbaar te maken.

Het werk van Caro en de andere kunstenaars is nog t/m 26 mei te bewonderen in bij Stichting Beautiful Distress in Amsterdam Noord.

Vijf dagen lang genieten van het werk van jonge, talentvolle makers: dat is Exposure 2023, het afstudeerfestival van HKU! De afstudeerders van Fine Art en Fine Art and Design in Education tonen samen hun werk van woensdag 28 juni t/m zondag 2 juli in de Pastoe Fabriek, Rotsoord 3 in Utrecht. Kom langs en laat je inspireren!

🎉👏Congratulations to alumni Eva Spierenburg and Iriée Zamblé! Today they won the 'Koninklijke prijs voor vrije schilderkunst'. His Majesty the King presented the award to them . After the ceremony, the King opened the exhibition where works by the winners and the other nominees Sara van Vliet can be seen.

🎨Artists in Residence Sander Breure en Witte van Hulzen hebben aan het einde van hun verblijf van zeven maanden bij HKU Fine Art de studio waarin ze werkten ‘overgebracht’ naar de expositieruimte van AG.

De expositie The Conference of the Birds opent vandaag. In de speelse studio-omgeving tonen acht studenten Fine Art nieuw werk.

🕵 Wij zijn op zoek naar studenten die meer ervaring willen opdoen met het opzetten en uitvoeren van een (wervings)campagne voor de HKU Cultuurpas. Met deze pas kunnen HKU-studenten gratis, onbeperkt en non-stop naar theater, film, concerten, kunst en festivals in Utrecht (en de rest van Nederland). Dit is een samenwerking tussen de HKU en landelijk cultuurplatform We Are Public.

💪 Als lid van het Campagneteam werk je samen met een ervaren team van We Are Public en HKU. Je wordt HKU Cultuurpas-ambassadeur waarbij je medestudenten meer vertelt over deze pas en zorgt ervoor dat zoveel mogelijk HKU studenten zich aanmelden. Je steekt graag je handen uit de mouwen (posters maken, plakken, events organiseren). En je krijgt als allereerste de kans om de pas uit te proberen. Zin om mee te helpen? 🕵 We are looking for students that, starting in 2022, want to gain experience with planning and carrying out a campaign for the HKU Culture pass. The pass gives HKU Students free, unlimited and non-stop access to theatre shows, films, concerts, exhibitions and festivals in Utrecht (and in the rest of the Netherlands). This is a collaboration between the HKU and nationwide cultural platform We Are Public.

💪 As a member of the Campaign team you will collaborate with the experienced We Are Public team. You’ll become a HKU Culture pass ambassador, telling your fellow students more about the pass and making sure as many HKU students as possible will register. You don’t mind rolling up your sleeves and getting busy (creating posters, distributing them, organising events). Plus: you’ll be among the very first to try out the pass. Want to help along? “Ik liep tijdens de Open Dag van HKU rond in de Pastoe Fabriek, en het was direct raak. Overal gebeurde wel iets. Het voelde als één groot atelier. Ik vond daar alles wat ik nodig had: vrijheid en mensen die deden wat ze echt wilden doen. Ik had het idee dat je hier niet anders hoefde te zijn, dat je niet per se je haar blauw hoefde te verven. Het voelde ongeforceerd.”

Ruimte voor toevalligheden Merel Zoomers (20) was pas zestien toen ze werd toegelaten bij de opleiding Fine Art and Design in Education op HKU. Ze kwam terecht in een warm bad. Als ze later zelf voor de klas staat, wil ze leerlingen meegeven dat niks te gek is. “Dat kan alleen door mezelf helemaal te embracen.”

Is an exhibition of works by a new generation of artists in the Mondriaanhuis Amersfoort
The Mondriaanhuis is not only the birthplace of Piet Mondriaan, but is also a museum for contemporary art.
2022 marks the 150-year anniversary of Mondriaan’s birth. The Mondriaanhuis will celebrate this with an exhibition of selected graduates of the HKU. Five starting artists are invited to create new works for the exhibition Lef!

Lef! is een tentoonstelling van een nieuwe generatie kunstenaars in het Mondriaanhuis Amersfoort.
Het Mondriaanhuis is niet alleen het geboortehuis van Piet Mondriaan maar ook een museum voor hedendaagse kunst. In 2022 is het 150 jaar gelden dat Mondriaan in Amersfoort werd geboren. Het Mondriaanhuis viert dit met een tentoonstelling van een selectie afstudeerders van de HKU. Vijf startende kunstenaars worden uitgenodigd een nieuw werk te maken voor expositie Lef!

Voor de tentoonstelling zijn de volgende kunstenaars voorgedragen:

‘Jochem is een geboren verhalenmaker en schrijver.’ De jury van de jaarlijks uitgereikte kunstprijs was unaniem: het Dooyewaard Stipendium gaat dit jaar naar kersvers afgestudeerde Fine Art’er Jochem Mestriner. The jury was unanimous: ‘Jochem is a born storyteller. His paintings are strong and unique.’

The Dooyewaard Stipendium Award is a Dutch art award for post academic talent development. In the past decade candidates have been selected from HKU Fine Arts graduates. The winner receives a monthly stipend and has the free use of a studio in Blaricum for one year. It enables artists to further develop their work benefitting from the peace and quiet of free living and working space.

Exposure 2021 HKU Fine Art
