This also includes the outdoor living residents such as plants, the little creatures, the birds and the trees which take part in our living ecosystem. The concept of the neighbourhood as a ’shared’ living ‘ room is that each of the residents have a sense of connection and ownership of the place that they are part of.

Inclusive urbanism – creating inclusive urban spaces by Placemaking:
a Public Kitchen Table Conversation
Wednesday 20 November 2019 17:00 – 19:00
LAB ArtEZ Zwolle
Rhijnvis Feithlaan 50, Zwolle
L.0.01
Are you interested in creating inclusive urban spaces? Can we strengthen the connection between people and the places they share? Can we facilitate creative patterns of use of space? How can artists contribute to improve public spaces by co-envisioning and co-creating with the neighbourhood residents, entrepreneurs and other local parties? How can we, while doing so, pay attention to the physical, cultural and social identities that define a space and it’s users?
During this evening we dive into the methodology of Placemaking. Placemaking inspires people to collectively reimagine and reinvent public spaces as the heart of every community.
At this Kitchen Table Conversation, Anna Dekker of Placemakers will introduce you to the methodology of Placemaking, afterwards we will hold an interactive session to experience Placemaking.
Have a seat at the table (with PIZZA and drinks), dive into the interesting world of placemaking, and exchange ideas about inclusive urban spaces with Placemaker Anna Dekker, the students of Corpo-real and others.
Anna Dekker is a team member of Placemakers Amsterdam and co-founder of Studio Lonk. With a background in sociology, urban planning and a MA ‘City Design and Social Science’ (LSE), Anna always reflects on the dialectics between the social and physical organization of cities. As a Placemaker, Anna connects large themes to small scale interventions that combine the expertise of citizens and professionals. Anna is furthermore co-founder of spatial design Studio LONK, co-founder and board member of non-profit Stichting Thuismakers Collectief and the academic director of the UvA summer programme ‘The Everyday City and Beyond’.
The evening is co-hosted by students of the interior architecture master Corpo-real who use placemaking as a way of site specific research in the neighbourhood of Diezepoort. They aim to provide local stakeholders with the necessary tools to develop their own neighbourhood.About Kitchen Table ConversationsArtEZ Studium Generale invites students and teachers of ArtEZ to participate in the Kitchen Table Conversations. The aim of the Kitchen Table conversations is to exchange ideas about how we as artists and people can live and work with and relate to other people in our society. We reflect for example on the notions of home and belonging. Which stories are related to these notions. What makes a home in- or exclusive? We will also look at the aim for diversity and inclusion within ArtEZ as our educational ‘home’.The Kitchen Table Conversations is an ongoing platform for reading, sharing, researching. It will bring thoughts, questions, texts, objects, performances, door k***s, voices, encounters, cartographies etc. We welcome everyone who wants to hear new ideas and share their own thoughts. The Kitchen Table Conversations are organized by the Master Education in Arts, Corpo-real master Interior Architecture, Teacher Department Theatre, Mister Motley online Magazine and ArtEZ studium generale. It’s base is Zwolle.
Admission is free, just register by sending an email to [email protected]

Lecture by Joke Post
Belonging: the Architectural Body
In this lecture Joke Post will speak about the work of Arakawa + Gins, Joke worked with Arakawa and Gins from 2001 to 2014.
http://www.reversibledestiny.org
Artist-scientists/architects/poets Arakawa and Madeline Gins have been collaborating almost since the day they met at the Brooklyn Art Academy in the early sixties. Starting with paintings, poems and writings, their first major collaborative project was a painted work 'The Mechanism of Meaning' that also appeared in book form. This work was the basis of the architectural work they developed in writings and installations.
Arakawa and Gins left the art world for good in the mid 90s, marked by the Guggenheim Show and Catalogue, named ‘Reversible Destiny: We Have Decided Not To Die’. They developed and built parks, cities and houses. As they considered their work to be beneficial for humanity at large, they founded in 1987 the not for profit ‘Containers of Mind Foundation’, in the 90s renamed ‘Architectural Body Research Foundation’ and in 2010 the ‘Reversible Destiny Foundation’.
For Arakawa and Gins, the ideal form of a house was one that kept residents in a "perpetually tentative relationship with their surroundings". The more our homes challenge us, architecturally, the more likely we are to stay young, grappling with their complexities and, in the case of Arakawa and Gins's flats and houses, their sheer oddity, even perversity.
Joke Post will give this lecture in the context of Corpo-real Intervention #7: Belonging: the Architectural Body. In this four-day workshop Corpo-real students work together with Joke Post, Johnny Schoofs and others on research into space, focusing on the relationship between the body and space and on figuring out new ways of how to get the most out of this relationship.
Joke Post is an Architectural Designer. She studied at the Minerva Art Academy in Groningen and at the Architecture Academy in Amsterdam. Within a few years after finishing her studies, Joke moved to New York City in the year 2000 where she was offered the job of project manager at Arakawa and Gins’s Architectural Body Research Foundation for their very first project in the United States: Bioscleave House (Lifespan Extending Villa) in East Hampton, NY.
From 2001 to 2014 Joke worked with Arakawa and Gins on several other architectural projects (Museum of Living Bodies/ Musemeum, Hotel Reversible Destiny and with Madeline on the Reversible Destiny Healing Fun House and the Biotopological Scale-Juggling Escalator at Dover Street Market in NYC) and books (Architectural Body (2005), Making Dying Illegal (2009) and Alive Forever, Not If, But When (unpublished as of yet).
Currently Joke is President of the Architectural Body Research Foundation and working freelance as an architectural designer. Her goal is to continue the legacy of Arakawa and Gins in her own practice and to promote and teach their philosophy and method to others.
Today we welcome all international students at ArtEZ Zwolle. They travelled from Turkey, Taiwan, Iran, China and other parts of the world to start their studies at ArtEZ in Music or Art&Design.
