We’re thrilled to share that our Glacial Rift model is now sold out. These past six days have been such a memorable time for us as a small independent watch brand. We kicked off Friday by attending Windup in San Francisco, and over the course of the weekend, we met so many fantastic people. It was very special to witness your first impressions of the Jan Mayen collection. Since we’ve only operated online so far, attending Windup marked our first experience at a watch fair, and it exceeded all expectations. Your support for our brand and the Glacial Rift model has been phenomenal. Also, we lost count of how many times we uttered the words “Oh, so you’re [customer name]! So great to finally meet you!”.

Meeting all of you means a lot to us, and we’re eager to continue the tradition in New York this October at Windup.

Glacier texture inspiration

During the ascent of the Beerenberg Volcano, we crossed the formidable Kronprins Olavs Bre and encountered a striking sight. A deep crevasse slicing through the glacier. This rift, captured in the second photo, became the wellspring of inspiration for the dial of our Glacial Rift Limited Edition.

Introducing Glacial Rift limited edition

Like standing at the edge of a crevasse, peering down, Jan Mayen Glacial Rift offers a view into the depths of a glacier. The dial's sharp facets and cracks emanating from the center capture the enormous powers at play as glaciers move over undulating landscapes and tear apart at the seams. The radial blue gradient captures the alluring blue hues revealed as light penetrates deep into the ancient ice.

Expedition planning

Given our narrow window of opportunity to summit Beerenberg volcano, we had to spend our time on the boat wisely and plan out the expedition in great detail.

Life at sea

The gentle sway of the sailboat, the endless expanse of the ocean, and the shared moments of camaraderie. 10 days at sea between Svalbard and Jan Mayen gave us plenty of time to learn the ropes of sailing and form lasting friendships.

Through the veil of ocean haze and drifting clouds, Rob scans the horizon in search of the elusive island of Jan Mayen. The summit of Beerenberg, piercing through the mist, offers the first glimpse of this captivating destination.

In the face of a blinding whiteout, our guide Lars Petter led the group up the challenging Kronprins Olavs Bre towards the summit of Beerenberg. As you approach the summit, the slope of Beerenberg steepens to over 40 degrees. Guides like Lars Petter inspire us to venture out and explore raw nature.

Fresh snow clinging on to the contours of the Beerenberg glacier crust, whipped along the surface by ferocious storms. Climbing on all four left us with no other option than to study the intricate details of nature’s own canvas.

As we arrived at Kvalrossbukta, a foreboding black volcanic sand beach and sun-bleached skeletons welcomed us, setting the tone for our island adventure.

Jagged ridges and carved scooped valleys make up the main pattern on the Jan Mayen Blue, converging on the center focal point to draw you in.

Emerging from the Depths

Like Beerenberg, rising from the deep abyss of the Northern Atlantic Sea and piercing through the ocean surface. Jan Mayen Black captures the black volcanic beaches of this mysterious and otherworldly place.

Our expedition team was fully equipped with Jan Mayen watches featuring blank dials, specifically designed for field testing the case and bracelet. Our firsthand experiences of Jan Mayen's untamed landscape shaped the vibrant textures and colors, breathing life into these dials.
