See you at the Nobel Peace Center!
Such a memorable day! The day after the Peace Prize Ceremony, the Nobel Peace Prize Exhibition WOMAN – LIFE – FREEDOM was officially opened by Narges Mohammadi’s family🕊️
Her children, Kiana and Ali, chanted ‘Zan, Zendegi, Azadi’ (Woman, Life, Freedom) as they opened the exhibition about their mother and the women fighting for freedom and human rights in Iran.
«If she was present here, she would still be the voice of all prisoners. Narges always puts others before herself», Narges Mohammadi’s husband Taghi Rahmani said on stage.
Also present at the exhibition opening was 2003 Nobel Peace Prize laureate Shirin Ebadi who have worked alongside Narges in the organisation Defenders of Human Rights Center.
Thank you to our exhibitions partners Norsk Hydro , Reitan Retail, Japan Institute and Portland Japanese Garden .

Henry Kissinger passed away at the age of 100. The former US Secretary of State and foreign policy adviser was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1973 for his effort to negotiate a ceasefire in Vietnam. He was awarded the prize jointly with North Vietnam's chief negotiator Le Duc-Tho, who refused to receive the prize.
May he rest in peace.

YOKO ONO – PEACE is POWER. Step into Yoko Ono’s creative universe – at the Nobel Peace Center.
Yoko Ono grew up in Tokyo and was 12 years old when the nuclear bombs were dropped over Hiroshima and Nagasaki in 1945. Her deep engagement for peace has permeated her more than 60-year long career as artist and activist. Many of the topics Yoko Ono has raised in her work are the same as some of the recipients of the Nobel Peace Prize have advocated for, such as disarmament and the fight against gender-based violence.
The majority of the exhibited works are “Instruction pieces” artworks that engage the audience in the creative process. Others invite you to take physical part in the creation of the work – like the “Mend Piece”.
Here, the visitor is invited to sit down and glue together pieces of ceramic and quietly mend what has been broken. This work can be referenced to an old Japanese art of repairing broken pottery – Kintsugi – by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted with powdered gold, a metaphor for embracing your flaws and imperfections.
The exhibition opens to the public on 2 December. Get your tickets through our webpage👇
YOKO ONO - PEACE is POWER Step into Yoko Ono’s creative universe. PEACE is POWER is the world-renowned artist’s first exhibition in Norway since 2005.
This is only one of several solidarity statements from Nobel Peace Prize laureates. On Friday, United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution calling for an “immediate, durable and sustained humanitarian truce leading to a cessation of hostilities”.
The Nobel Peace Center joins the Nobel Peace Prize laureates in the call for protection of civilians.

We condemn the Hamas terror attacks and the Israeli violations of international law, and urge for a ceasefire to alleviate civilian suffering.
The work of the laureates and others advocating for peace is more important than ever. We turn to the words of the late Martti Ahtisaari for some hope:
“Wars and conflicts are not inevitable. They are caused by human beings. There are always interests that are furthered by war. Therefore those who have power and influence can also stop them.” (Nobel Lecture, 2008)
Among all Nobel Peace Prize laureates, there are 19 women.
Since 1901 the Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to 111 individuals. In the first 100 years of the history of the peace prize, it was awarded to ten women (first prize awarded in 1901). Since 2001, it has been awarded to nine💁♀️

Women and the Nobel Peace Prize After the announcement of the Nobel Peace Prize 2023 to Narges Mohammadi, 19 women and 92 men have received “the world’s most prestigious prize”.
Today we mark United Nations Day. In 2001, the Norwegian Nobel Committee divided the prize between the United Nations and UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan. Its decision reflected a long-time practice of supporting organized cooperation between nations.
«In this new century, we must start from the understanding that peace belongs not only to States or peoples, but to each and every member of those communities. The sovereignty of States must no longer be used as a shield for gross violations of human rights. Peace must be made real and tangible in the daily existence of every individual in need. Peace must be sought, above all, because it is the condition for every member of the human family to live a life of dignity and security.»

We mourn the loss of Martti Ahtisaari, Nobel Peace Prize laureate 2008. The former Finnish President was awarded the prize for his important efforts, on several continents and over more than three decades, to resolve international conflicts.
Ahtisaari was a major contributor when Namibia achieved independence in 1989-90, arbitrated in Kosovo in 1999 and 2005-07, and helped to bring the long-lasting conflict in the Aceh province in Indonesia to an end in 2005.
“Through his untiring efforts and good results, he has shown what role mediation of various kinds can play in the resolution of international conflicts. The Norwegian Nobel Committee wishes to express the hope that others may be inspired by his efforts and his achievements” the Norwegian Nobel Committee stated in the announcement in October 2008.
Martti Ahtisaari believed that all conflicts can be revolved, and that peace is a question of will:
“Wars and conflicts are not inevitable. They are caused by human beings. There are always interests that are furthered by war. Therefore those who have power and influence can also stop them.” (Nobel Lecture, 2008)
