Here's our latest creation, a 3D view of the Kongsfjorden area in Svalbard. We have just received a best map award for it at the annual national geomatics conference! 🏆

With the addition of Kong Karls Land and Kvitøya imagery, the orthophoto coverage in Svalbard is now complete! Discover at https://toposvalbard.npolar.no/

We have now added more zoom to the maps in TopoSvalbard! Where it previously stopped at 1:20 000ish with proper map cartography, it now goes three steps further to 1:2 500ish. In the added zoom levels, we utilise our recently complete coverage of higher resolution terrain models to render more detailed hillshades, and we’ve stepped up from 50 to 20 m interval for the contour lines. NPI, in collaboration with the Norwegian Mapping Authority and Longyearbyen local council, has this week carried out fieldwork in Longyearbyen as the first step in preparing a new vertical reference frame for Svalbard.
GNSS measurement of around 10 base points, as well as approx. 35 km of leveling between points, provide a good basis to work with for the geodesy division of the Mapping Authority, which is responsible for the calculations.

Her ser du Statens kartverk og Norsk Polarinstitutt som i samarbeid med oss gjennomfører nivellering fra Huset og opp til Gruve 4.
