On this women’s day let’s remember one of the great teacher Late Geeta S.Iyengar, the daughter of Yogacharya B.K.S Iyengar. She was known for advancing in yoga for women. She has written books like “Yoga: A gem for Women” and “Iyengar Yoga for motherhood”. She started her yoga practice ar a very young age and had been a yoga teacher through out her life. She taught yoga in Ramamani Iyengar Memorial Yoga Institute(RIMYI), Pune.
We at ojas are embracing her teachings and incorporating it into our daily yoga prcatices. She is an inspirations to the many women who want to make a mark as a teacher or a yoga practitioner .
यस महिला दिवसमा स्वर्गीय गीता एस आयंगरलाई सम्झौं। उनी महिलाहरुका लागि योगामा अगाडी बढ्ने भनेर चिनिन्थे । उनले "योग: ए जेम फर वुमन" र "आइङ्गर योग फर मातृत्व" जस्ता पुस्तकहरू लेखेकी छिन्। उनले आफ्नो योगा अभ्यास सानै उमेरमा सुरु गरेकी थिइन् र जीवनभर योग शिक्षिका थिइन्। उनले राममणि अय्यङ्गर मेमोरियल योगा इन्स्टिच्युट (RIMYI), पुणेमा योग सिकाउनुभयो।

Lets talk about foot placement and body posture.
How we place our feet place a huge role in giving feedback to the brain to help us understand where our body is in space which is called proprioception . Our feet is innevated with numerous amounts of nerve ending which are constantly communicating with the brain.The skin of your feet sends information to the brain via the skin's mechanoreceptors this info is then sent to the brain to shape motor development and coordination.
An imbalance with the feet ALWAYS leads to an imbalance in the body. If your posture is unbalanced, there is poor proprioceptive data (detailed and continuous info about the position and movement of our limbs in space) being to sent to the cerebellum.
When we exercise barefoot especially during our yoga practice the foot make a huge connection with the ground. Another important rule that is a must to follow in yoga practice is equal weight distribution at the base of the feet with proper alignment during the entire time makes up for a safe,strong and healthy yoga practice.
So what is the proper alignment during our yoga practice?
Well, we can start with two points in mind :
•Hip width distance apart between the feet and feet should be parallel to each other .
•weight distributionon the feet at 3 points: the front of the heel, the big toe mount and the small toe mount.
Few simple postures for strengthening the feet and ankle:
•Virasana - stretches the top of the foot.
•Utkasana - strengthens and improves the ankle ROM
•Vrkasana - challanges balance, focus and foot awareness.
Now, everytime you start your practice take time to look down at your feet to ground yourself.

What is text neck? Do I have a text neck? Is it a big deal?
A text neck can be visually identified by looking at the how far forward your head is with respect to your shoulders.
Do you find your self constantly slouching over to look at your phone? Forward head posture can be associated -
•Headached
•Pain at the nape of your neck.
•Pain in the upper back.
•Reduced mobility.
•Shoulder pain and tightness.
•Pain in arm and hands.
Than text neck or Forward head Posture (FPH) might be a probable cause.
And yes it is a big deal. This misalignment in any segment if th spine.Imagine carrying a weight of 10kgs far away from your body for a few minutes and than carrying the same 10kgs closer to your body. This creates a huge difference in the amount of energy and muscle engagement required to hold the weight in place. The same goes for your head. The more forward we hyperextend the neck the heavier it gets causing shorting of the muscles at the back of the neck and compression in cervical vertebrae(neck).
The important thing to remember is that posture affects the health of your spine, which in turn affects the health of the rest of your body. If your spine is turned, bent, or twisted in a particular direction for an extended period of time, the rest of your body may begin to experience pain and discomfort. The position of your limbs and head can also affect how straight and healthy your spine is able to be at any given time.
With the practice of Yogasanas one can understand the body, readjustments to our bad posture can be achived via mindfulness and constant practice till it becomes natural.

Yoga is not about twisting and balancing upside down. In “Taitriya Upanishad” the gross body is refered to as the “annamaya kosh” that which is made of (anna-fuelled by food we eat ) earth element. In restorative asana we cater to the gross body which is with which we identify the most, because it is through this instrument that we sense and feel and move. By a steady and happy practice “stihram sukham asanam” we achive health.

This is my guruji Acharya Yoganand alias Dr. S. V. Karandikar. He was a doctor by profession healing people until he got into the path of yoga also to heal people. He designed SUNJEEVAN YOGA THERAPY with years of personal practice, support and guidance from his guruji Padmabhushan Yogacharya BKS Iyengar a legend in the field of yoga in this modern age.
He used his knowledge and experience of
medical science and yoga to design this Yoga

design this therapy but with the implementation of yogic practice he even cured his blood pressure at the age of 45, proving the power of continues and daily practice of yoga.
