We are pleased to announce that the first Asian Ranger Forum will be hosted 5-8th December, 2023 in Guwahati, Assam, India. The Forum is hosted by multiple regional and national ranger associations, , International Ranger Federation, Ranger Federation of Asia, Ranger Support Alliance, ASSAM FOREST DEPARTMENT. The Forum aims to bring the Asian ranger community together to discuss key challenges faced by rangers and provide a platform for sharing experiences and showcasing contributions. The forum will also focus on the role of Indigenous People and Local Communities in protecting biodiversity and their role in the delivery of Global Biodiversity Framework. We're pleased to also announce the release of the official website: www.asianrangerforum.org where all updates related to the Forum will be posted. Registrations start soon! There is a certificate of participation for participants.

The Ranger Code of Conduct awareness-raising workshop series is making its way to South Asia and we need your help to spread the word. 📢

So far, nearly 500 rangers from all over the world have participated in a two-hour awareness-raising workshop on the Ranger Code of Conduct.

The sixth workshop on October 12 will be held in English with real time translation in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam, Assamese, Bengali, Sinhala, Arabic, Urdu and Nepali.

2022 INTERNATIONAL RANGER OF THE YEAR

Just minutes ago, Sergeant Nyaradzo Auxillia Hoto, leader of the Akashinga - Nature Protected by Women team, was awarded as International Ranger of the Year at the IUCN Africa Protected Areas Congress . The is the first time a woman has received this prestigious award. Sgt Hoto comes from a tough background - she survived an abusive marriage and her daughter Tariro lives with her. Nyaradzo is now a highly accomplished professional who not only makes a massive difference for wildlife with her team, but also changes the traditional narrative about African women.

10 other top ranger finalists were also awarded for their outstanding, arduous and often hazardous work.

Meet the Jungle cat of Chitwan, Central Nepal 😻😻

Jungle cat (Felis chaus) (‘Ban Biralo’ in Nepali) is a close relative of the domestic cat (Felis catus). Despite globally decreasing population, the jungle cat is listed as least concern in the IUCN Red List, globally, and in Nepal, nationally. Its global distribution is in North Africa (only Egypt), eastern Europe, south and southeast Asian countries with an elevational record of up to 4,000 m above sea level. Despite the wide global distribution, their existence in selective habitats around the deciduous forest, riparian vegetation and permanent water sources results in their irregular distribution and is mainly threatened by destruction of wetlands, trapping and poisoning.
