Questioner: But they (the Jews) were deceptive, and Allah was deceptive, for Allah is the best of deceivers (Wamakaroo wamakara Allahu waAllahu khayru al-makireena)! S. 3:54
is the BEST OF DECEIVERS among the wonderful names of Allahu ?
Answer:
Makr (plotting, planning, or scheming) can be either praiseworthy or blameworthy; if it is counter plotting aiming at subverting the evil plots of the opponents, it is praiseworthy because it entails being stronger than such plotters (opponents); otherwise, it is blameworthy and implies dispraise as it is labeled as betrayal. Therefore, Allaah, The Exalted, never described Himself with the attribute of 'Maakir', meaning plotter or schemer in the broader sense of the word. Rather, plotting is attributable to Allaah in the contexts when it is counter to plotting aiming at subverting the evil schemes of the disbelievers against Him and His Messengers and when it is restricted to that. Hence, it can be said that Allaah plots against His enemies or those who plot against Him and the believers and not in the general sense of the word.
Allaah, The Exalted, says: {And the disbelievers planned, but Allaah planned. And Allaah is the best of planners.} [Quran 3:54] This includes what Allaah, The Exalted, says: {And [for] their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allaah." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain.} [Quran 4:157]

Tawakkul is more than saying, 'I rely on Allāh ﷻ'.
It is to put your newborn son inside a basket and let it float into the darkness of the ocean.
It is to place a slaughter knife at your son's throat and not flinch for a blink of an eye.
It is to migrate from your homeland into an unknown future while your enemies are but a few footsteps away plotting your murder.
It is to be stuck inside the belly of a whale but still utter only that which pleases Allāh ﷻ.
It is to be thrown into a well by your own brothers, into fire by your own father—but still find Allāh ﷻ sufficient for you.
It is to watch your son's arrogance drown him, to lose all your wealth, health and children but still find your heart content despite the losses.
It is to know that people are hunting you down to crucify you and yet, know that Allāh ﷻ is your Wakīl and that He ﷻ will protect and save you.
It is to fight all odds despite crumbling to the ground out of weakness because Allāh ﷻ is the source of your strength.
It is having the unwavering conviction that every single second of your life has been decreed by Allāh, Ḥakīm al-Majīd.
Have the right kind of tawakkul and don’t lose hope in Him ﷻ. And remember—a story written by the Best of Writers could never have a hopeless ending.

Over the years, I developed a habit of subconsciously reciting واللہ المستعان whenever I faced something that disturbed my peace. But I was never aware of the background story of such powerful word until only recently when I heard about it in a lecture by on Surah Yousuf.
The word, Wallahul Musta’aan, as mentioned in the Quran, was said by Yaqoob عليه السلام when his sons came up with a false story of what happened to Yousuf عليه السلام. Yaqoob tried his best to find the truth but his sons teamed up to defend their heinous act and lies. Tired of the situation, Yaqoob asked Allah for Sabrun Jameel (beautiful patience) followed by Wallahul Mustaa’an.
According to the commentators of the Quran, Wallahul Musta’an is used to call for Allah’s help when you find yourself in impossible situations, when people team up against you to defend their lies, when people accuse you of something false, when you have given your best and desperately waiting for desired results, when you feel you’re in a situation where there’s no way out. It’s literally saying to Allah that I have given my best and now I am taking a backseat, I want You to take charge of the driving seat and solve this matter with your Divine intervention.
And patience automatically becomes beautiful when with all your heart, mind, and soul you leave the matter on Allah.
Sharing it with you all because I thought it might brighten someone’s day. Don’t worry if the situation seems impossible, remember you’re asking the One who just have to say ‘Kun’ and it is.
You are asking the One who calls Himself, Al-Fattah. Who creates a way out when there seems to be no way. So take a backseat and let Allah do the rest.
