The Olympic Pools and Fitness Centre New
Friendly Vibes & Positive culture. The Olympic Pools and Fitness Centre is the facility with it all.
Just incase you were wondering who was the fittest person at The Olympic...here he is.
Matt demolished our fitness events in the Go For Gold challenge, and won himself the overall top place.
Treadmill, Bike or Ski-Erg, one name reigned supreme.
Congrats Matt!
Olympic People!!!
We need you to share your support (again 💙😃)
The Auckland Council have submitted their report to the Local Board, and within that it seems they are suggesting closing us down for a minimum of 1 year, This may happen in just 2 years time!!!
It seems the council is more concerned with pleasing the owner of the cinema above us (which has been empty for years), rather than considering all of the amazing people that rely on this wonderful community.
Not to bore you with the details, but we are well prepared and have already submitted ways to assist in the works they are suggesting. But wish to rush unnecessary disruption.
We greatly value your passion for The Olympic. Please make your feelings known in any way you wish.
Waitemata Local Board Meeting🙌
Council Chambers
Auckland Town Hall
301 Queen Street
1.00pm Tuesday 17th September
This council asks your facility management to bend over backwards to meet Council social requirements, all in the name of wanting us to give the community the best service possible. Yet there is no suggestion of their officers taking the remotest notice of its ratepayers’ wishes themselves. We feel you should let them and our elected representatives know how you feel.

Members doing awesome, epic things.
This is Elly and her son Charlie - Read below for a message shared to us here at The Olympic....
---
A "zero" type of birthday prompted me to fulfill a dream adventure I've had my eye on for quite a while.
I was fortunate enough to get 2 entries (out of 150 worldwide each year) to participate in the Swim the Arctic Circle, down the river Torne between Sweden and Finland.
My 16 year old son Ollie was invited on the trip, only if he joined me in the swim!
He said yes!
The premise of the event is to finish the race the day before you start due to the hour time difference between Finland and Sweden.
You swim under the midnight sun, starting on the Finnish river bank and swim 3 km down the Torne river to end up on the Swedish side. If you do this in under 55 minutes you finish the race the day before you started.
We both achieved this. The event is super fun and laid back. The village of Juoksengi organise it annually as a fundraiser. Amazingly, there were 5 other Kiwis swimming as well as us.
We met so many awesome people from all around the world and truly had a wonderful adventure.
I cannot recommend this event enough!

- You are amazing Elly
The results of the Go For Gold challenges are in!
Well done to everyone who took part.
There were some EPIC efforts, and we were blown away with the participation.
Our members have commitment (and are FREAKING strong).
The gym staff will be tracking you down next week, and those who won events will be collecting some pretty sweet prize packs.
Heads up: Those who completed the total training session challenge, have been awarded the free month on their accounts.

Hey team Olympic 🔥
We need your support!
The Olympic would love if you can attend, voice or write your support to the Waitemata board meeting on Tuesday 20th at 1pm.
Our facility is up for a lease renewal, and we urgently need a resolution to ensure this remains remains and becomes the best facility in Auckland.
We have grand plans, and want to make these positive changes to ensure that your facility remains open and develops for the better!
If you want to contact them directly, send an email to [email protected]
Or send us a DM or email to reception. We will make sure to pass them on.
Thank you to our members, casual customers, and general fans 💙
As John Fay would say, let's finish the job!
Great to see a few names on here (and the cardio board)
Grab a team member and give the challenges a go.

So many fun things to do!
Come and try them out at The Arena, or create your own fun time in the cage.
We have battle ropes, kettlebells, med balls, pull up bars, TRX's...and so much more. Nothing but smiles and a good time 🧐😎
We were stoked to host the NZ U19 Football team for a couple of recovery sessions this week.
No doubt a few future super stars in this group.
All the best for the World Cup qualifiers (and then the World Cup 😎🤝)!
This year we acknowledge Matariki with a public holiday on Friday the 28th of June.
The Olympic will be open from 7 am to 8 pm
There are no group fitness classes on Friday, but the normal schedule resumes on Saturday AM.
Embrace Balance and Serenity with Yin Yoga
Yin Yoga is a slow-paced style of yoga that focuses on holding postures for an extended period, typically between three to five minutes. Unlike more dynamic forms of yoga, Yin Yoga targets the connective tissues, such as ligaments, bones, and joints, rather than just the muscles. This deep, meditative practice allows for a greater release of tension and promotes increased flexibility and circulation.
Come and try a class today at The Olympic...
Our Yin Yoga sessions are designed to be accessible to all levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners.
The Happiest of Happy Hours is here to stay.
$6 Swim Entry
$11 Full Facility Entry
Every Friday from 12 - 4 pm
(Must be 16 years+ to use the gym)
Swim and Spa.
A combination as good as a burger and fries....we mean a protein shake and salad...definitely healthy only 😎
Get your swim on at The Olympic.
This standing bag might look friendly, but in reality it is your enemy. We heard it has been talking smack all week, and doesn't think that you can punch or kick hard at all.
Why don't you come and show it who's boss?
Impact and Fight Fit classes on at The Olympic are your perfect opportunity to work on your boxing and kickboxing skills.
Feeling the chill?
Come on and feel the heat in our sauna and steam rooms.
Relax, unwind and beat the cold.
"Auckland's best sauna." - just a quote overheard the other day ;)
Monday 3rd of June is King's Birthday.
This is a public holiday, and we will be open with reduced hours.
Opening time is 7 AM and closing at 8 PM.
There are no group fitness classes.

These bells might be dumb, but they are anything but dumb for your body.
We have racks on racks at The Olympic for you to use, with our range going from 0.5kg to 60kg.
DB's are great for so many different exercises, and incorporate not only strength...but also balance and mobility.
Speak to our team on site if you want to learn some exercises and proper technique. Or if you need a spotter to test our the 60kg weights ;)
Here is a wall of our balls and bells.
You can play with them, throw them around.
The workout is all up to you.

Skipping
One of the most underrated exercises out there. When you see a boxer with a crazy physique, it isn't purely from the gloves. Boxers are known for doing insane levels of skipping.
The benefits:
🔵 Improve stamina
🔵 Improve coordination and activate brain function
🔵 Strengthen your legs and feet
+ it is pretty fun.
We have loads of skipping ropes at The Olympic, and you are welcome to come and use them in The Arena cage.
***Skipping is not recommended inside the pool or during Yoga.
Power. Cardio. Power.
Win. The. Day.
Come and join our Arena sessions today.
30 mins of absolute epicness'ness.
...And we love this feedback.
Over on Classpass, we have nearly 5,000 reviews with an average rating of 4.8/5
This is absolutely epic, and we do our best to keep up the high standards.
Our team love (seems to be the theme) getting great feedback in all forms. In person, email, telepathically...however you prefer.
Keep up the positive vibes, and keep being an awesome community.
... Cringe? Sorry.

THERE ARE FEW more direct expressions of strength than the deadlift. The movement is as simple as anything else you'll find yourself doing in a gym: You pick a heavy load up off the ground, then you put it back down.
The deadlift is one of the most reliable compound movements for building big-time muscle. It's a tremendous exercise for developing the posterior chain. The biggest muscles of your body are involved in the deadlift, with your lower body—glutes, hamstrings, quads—providing much of the work. But your upper body muscles like the erector spinae, traps, and even your forearms are essential to completing reps, too.
Get strong - Do Deadlifts
Ask our staff for assistance with form and technique.
You heard that right.
A Harvard study in 2023 found that 83% of people who used the sauna 2-4 times per week, had improvements in quality of sleep, ease of sleep and more frequent REM/Deep sleep.
The better you sleep, the better everything else will be. You will recover faster, feel happier and allow your body to grow.
Hot facts - Sauna...heat...get it :O
