October was Breast Cancer awareness month and unfortunately was largely overshadowed by Covid-19 news. Please continue to stay aware of other health conditions 🎗️
Each year in New Zealand approximately 3100 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer and approximately 650 men die from the disease. The incidence of prostate cancer in New Zealand appears to be increasing.
I understand this is an uncomfortable subject for most however its an important conversation to be had.
Share this with a friend or family member so they are aware.
One in eight Kiwi males develops prostate cancer in his lifetime.
One in nine Kiwi women develop breast cancer in her lifetime. Everyday six Kiwis are diagnosed with lung cancer and five Kiwis pass away from this condition.
There are more than 100 types of cancer and these stats reflect only 3 types.
Feeling uneasy about this? Good, take a deep breath and keep reading.
Each year in New Zealand, approximately 25,000 people are diagnosed with cancer and approximately 9,000 of them pass away. In 2018 this represented 31% of all deaths recorded.
When compared to the same time period in 2019, 2020’s lockdown saw a 47% drop in the number of confirmed cancer cases. By October 2020, cancer diagnosis records had “returned to normal” meaning there wasn’t a drop in numbers that year, there was more delayed diagnosis due to the lockdown.
Everyday counts with cancer as finding cancer early increases the chances of survival rates. Breast cancer has a 99% five-year survival rate when found before it spreads. For colon cancer, it's 90% when found at an early stage.
Getting the appropriate treatment and care following a confirmed diagnosis is a different story and for a Health System that is already backlogged with waiting lists it's not great news. Especially when you consider this year's lockdown & its long-term impact.
This is where Private Medical Cover & Trauma Cover has its place in the New Zealand Market. It fills a gap the public health care system has with waiting list, treatment and medication that isn't subsided by Pharmac. If you have any questions about this please feel free to reach out to me.
On my page I have some posts where you can complete some self-checks, I would encourage you to read over these especially during this period where we may not be getting annual screening checks.

Whilst young women and men are at a lower risk, they can still get breast cancer.
Most cases occur in women aged 50+. For the younger generation this shouldn't be "parked" as something to worry about at a later date. From age 20 you should be aware of how your breasts normally look and feel so you’re more likely to notice changes. Breast cancer’s
highly treatable if it’s diagnosed early.
Use the TLC method above and get familiar with the signs.

It's nice to be able to support ourselves & our loved ones. So imagine the scenario where we pass away unexpectedly… "well that escalated quickly".
How does the cash flow continue for our loved ones to live the life they are accustomed to? Who pays our outstanding debts?
Life cover is designed to pay a lump sum when you die. This can be used to reduce or pay off debt, fund a funeral, pay legal expenses and provide a nest egg for those left behind.
We insure our home and possessions - why not ourselves?
While the public health system will deal with your acute needs, private medical cover is designed to meet some or all of the costs of private medical treatment.
New treatments and medications are becoming available on a regular basis and many are not available through the public system as they are not funded. This cover gives you the option to choose the treatments most appropriate to your needs.
A massive congratulations to Tom for being the winner of the chocolate giveaway! I'll be in touch to set up a level 3 friendly delivery.
