Sustainable Business Network
Empowering business so people and nature prosper. Too often profit is vulnerable, dependent on old modes of thinking and working. Join us on the journey.
The Sustainable Business Network has a vision of a transformed business world in which organisations thrive because they cherish the resources and people they depend on. Sustainable Business Network members are charting a path to profit we can be proud of - profit that benefits communities, employees and our natural environment as well as shareholders – profit fit for the twenty-first century.

Take climate action now.
All businesses have a role to play in reducing emissions. You could reduce the impacts of your business by using less energy, looking at your supply chain and managing your waste. Small actions all add up.

Another great network and connect at SBN's Auckland HQ last Tuesday, making loads of new connections and talking business action for nature. The lingering, chatting crowd suggests that either a) people love making those links with like minded folk that spark new work or b) we bought the right coffee and pastries 😉
Check our events page to find out. We're bringing the next one to Wellington on September 17. Link in the comments.
Can you see yourself in this picture? Our Leadership in Sustainability Course starts (and ends) with connection. Connection with the real world. Connection with your purpose. Mourning the loss of another Kiwi sustainability legend. Sadly, Ray Skinner, the indefatigable publisher of Sustainability Matters died on Sunday. Ray was a member of our network since the very beginning, and a loyal supporter of our work. For 24 years Sustainability Matters has been an invaluable round-up of sustainability news from across the globe. He was recognised as a Fellow of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand in 2016. In his own words, "Ray is an enthusiastic promoter of ‘sustainability’, including the long term survival of humans – everything else would survive if it were not for them!" He will be missed.

Our new look awards are now open for entries! We're pivoting to prioritise the pioneers driving bold action and groundbreaking innovation.
To focus our minds on what really counts, we're kicking this new approach off with a slimmed down list of just two categories:
Transformational Leadership – visionary leaders (individuals or teams) championing long-term, transformational changes towards a regenerative circular economy.
Disruptive Innovation – groundbreaking products, services, technologies or business models designed with sustainability and circular economy principles at their core.
Does this sound like you, or someone you know?
Entry is free, open to all across Aotearoa New Zealand and closes on Friday 20 September 2024.
The winners will be announced at a celebration in November.

It's that time of year again! You may have seen this pop up here and there...it started with us. A quick snapshot taken by our communications advisor of a framed snippet from an old newspaper owned by one of our staff. It's travelled the world as a reminder of how long we've known about climate change, and what can be done with a quick photo on a slow afternoon.
This is from a local newspaper letters column...104 YEARS AGO. It makes you wonder why it has taken us so long to move on this...
If we didn't see you at yesterday's Nature and Business Symposium we'd love you to join us next time. Sign up to the newsletter on our website to find out more. We were honoured by the presence and support of Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei Auckland Council Miraka Limited Westpac NZ Z Energy Ministry for the Environment AUT - Auckland University of Technology and oOh!media, as well as too many talented and expert individuals to name. Our Story
The Sustainable Business Network is New Zealand’s largest, longest-standing sustainable business organisation. Our network consists of hundreds of progressive organisations and people that collectively invest in and act on system change. Together we focus on climate, waste and water.
We’re a social enterprise, a community and a movement. Our role is to transform leading ideas into action in Aotearoa.
It’s easy to join our independent network as an Investor for Impact. Investors invest in people and nature by funding our essential work on system change. This enables us to influence and transform the climate, waste and water systems together.
