Fluid Archipelago, a series of images from an extensive road -trips throughout parts of Aotearoa during which the artist sought to engage with the fluidity of landscape: its movement from both recent (land instability, flooding) and historic (land-use conversion from settler colonialism). A key undercurrent was our collective complicity in climate change. Dr Robin Kearns, Professor of Geography at Auckland University has contributed an essay, An Invitation to be Moved, to accompany the work.
What a beautiful opening celebration last night! We are thrilled to be hosting Kate Rampling's show 'Maidens Garlands' as part of the until 30th June.

Thank you to everyone who came out in support of my work, lovers of photography or just curious folks who stopped by. Tonight was awesome and one I will cherish!
Special thanks to Sanji for having me and Daryl - the framing was a big part of the creative aspect of the show and Daryl went above and beyond to teach himself how to custom make the ornate mat borders. Iām so lucky I get to show my photographs!
š¢ Opening 5.30pm this Thu, 6th June!

"Rampling's latest works highlight the little-known and fading tradition of the Maiden's Garland. Made for the deceased, they were a British funeral rite specifically for unmarried or virgin women who have passed.
The tradition is both an unusual celebration of female purity and a sentimental act for the grieving. Attracted by the visual style and drawn to the act of remembrance, Rampling created a series of garlands and conceptual images to highlight symbolic representations of purity.
The works function as a reflection on past concepts of female virtue and a celebration of creative acts that heal in times of bereavement."

Posted ā¢ I am excited to share a new exhibition for mid year as part of the Auckland Festival of Photography , showing at SKAR Image Lab in June āMaidenās Garlandsā.
I donāt want to say this will be the last exhibition of my work for a while, but Iāve been adjusting to the news that I am pregnant and want to focus much of my creative energy on being a Mum! Iāll still be taking photographs and documenting that experience but it remains to be seen how much energy will be left for creative photography while I transition into this new role.
Thank you for following my work, many of you have followed me over the years and watched as my work and interests have progressed. I hope to catch up with those of you who stop by in June.

We're stoked to be hosting Joshua McCormack's exhibition!!

šØ Opening 5.30pm, on Thu 8 June: Jenny Tomlin - "Growing Light" at our Gallery:
šSkar Image Lab
1 New Bond At, Kingsland
About 'Growing Light':
These cameraless images are made over a long period of time ā hours or months. Combining primitive photographic processes - pinhole, solargraphy or lumen there is an emphasis on experimentation and involvement of environment. Using it as a mark maker rather than photographing it.
"Iām really interested in how a landscape can be seen cumulatively and what disappears or remains." - Jenny Tomlin
Jenny Tomlin is an analogue photo artist and darkroom printer based in West Auckland. Her speciality is pinhole photography. Studying Photography at Elam in the 1980s she currently runs a darkroom service for film photographers while pursuing her personal practice.
**Gallery Takeover** We are thrilled to continue the Skar Image Lab Takeover of the Parrotdog Gallery with an installation by Te Whanganui-a-tara based Artist - Virginia Woods-Jack: āIncomplete Workā. Join us for the Opening Night: 5.30PM, Thursday 25 May.
Have you been to an artistās studio? - What is it like?
This installation will take you to Virginiaās studio walls, transposed to the Parrotdog Gallery displaying creative play alongside a series of test strips. It showcases the exploration,Ā thought process and development of works along with proofing of materials - in short: the creative and conceptual journey to arrive at a final piece of artwork.
The works shared in this installation are mostly created in Te Whanganui-a-tara but not like you are used to; presenting an ongoing exploration into perception and our connection to the natural world via the dream-like states of dusk and darkness, the sky, the moon and the sea.Ā
Curious? - Come and take a glimpse at Virginiaās studio walls together with us!
