Chip Packet Project New Zealand
Chip Packet Project reuses your empty foil packets and creates survival sheets (thermal blankets) for those living on the streets throughout NZ.
A chip packed can take 80 years to decompose in landfill - shocking! The mission of CPPNZ is best summed up as follows;
- To give New Life, New Purpose, a New Beginning to single use plastic and foil packaging waste
- To bring people together to make and create items which helps combat loneliness and give life purpose
- To send survival items to people that have nothing, and/or living on the stre

Sending in strips (five packets fused together) means we can make more blankets, as well as making them faster! One strip is already 1/5th of a blanket, you can do that from your kitchen bench. So before your next drop off why not spend half an hour turning your foil into strips? If you've forgotten you will find a video here explaining how 🕵️♀️

We need your help! Winter has made a grand entrance with frosts and storms already, which is why it's extra important we get our blankets to those in need. Making a strip is really easy, and can be done from your kitchen bench or coffee table. So why not turn your next foil drop off into strips, knowing that every one is 1/5th of a blanket already!

Yesterday we celebrated the end of an era/partnership with Chip Packet Project New Zealand! Thanks to Terrena for visiting our centre, with a morning tea shout, to express her gratitude to all our incredible volunteers who have dedicated their time and effort to this project over the past 2 years.
Manaaki's dedication has been truly inspiring - from tirelessly collecting Chip Packets to washing, sorting, fusing them into strips, and sealing them into blankets.
We'd also like to acknowledge those clients who made good use of the Chip Packet Project, for their Duke of Edinburgh's International Award. They clocked up a combined effort of over 300 hours; towards making blankets for those in need in our region. Your hard work has truly made a difference!

Three Top Questions Asked;
Q. What are the best chip packets to use ?
A.The best packets are any foil packets that are fairly soft . You will find the thicker packets (Harvest Snaps for example) and the thin packets dont fuse well .
Q. What are the worse crisp packets to use?
A. Anything thick, dark or light in colour (lots of white/black). These react to heat differently. And once the plastic goes on can leave holes - very frustrating
Q. Are you only using the large chip packets? Does it matter what size the foil packaging is?
A. CPPNZ is keen on diverting foil from landfill. It does not matter what size foil chip or biscult packets we get BUT PLEASE they MUST be opened to landscape, clean and flat
The little hands of George Street Kindergarten in Waiuku proving that washing packet is easy and fun!!! Way to go team! Our Friday Foil Fusion Volunteers will be able to make 5 much needed thermal blankets 😀 😊
So humbled and grateful to work alongside young people who are concerned about our environment and striving to make a difference! The four blankets made went straight out to give whanau in Huntly a warm nights sleep!
It is getting cold out there! 46 blankets have been distributed in the last two weeks thanks to your donations.
