Materials sent to Helensville Zero Waste from our most recently completed Deconstruction project in Muriwai. 🌊

Last week was another very successful week full of hard mahi and a WHOLE lot of SALVAGING! ♻

A total collective of:

• x5 glass doors
• x8 wardrobe doors
• x4 normal doors
• x1 shower door
• x6 blinds
• x2 mirrors
• 1x bathtub
• 1x kitchen sink
• 1x toilet sink
• 1x Marble countertop, comes in 3 pieces
• One load of timber

Was salvaged and delivered to the hands of the awesome team at Helensville Community Recycling Centre to go back into the community. We also had more furniture delivered to our yard to be stored in a container, which will be sent to Tonga soon, once it's full. 🙌

There is never a week where we don't face at least one challenging encounter with our project. However, whether it's planning challenges, machinery breakdowns, or wet weather putting a hold on work - we are so grateful for our team's resilience and attitude in finding solutions and overcoming any hurdles TOGETHER. 🤝

Our Northcote project is now in it’s 4th week of being ACTIVE. 🚧

Across these last 4 weeks, our team have been making strides in ensuring all salvaged materials are being treated with care and have been sorted correctly to ensure the best result for future repurposing/re-use. 🌱

Currently, our next steps are to deliver a container full of materials and furniture that we have been filling over the last 4 weeks, to the team at Localised - who are super excited to breathe new life into them and prepare them so they are ready for the community to enjoy. ♻️

As we move forward with our journey in Northcote, we're eager to continue feeding out more updates across this project timeline, including an exciting look into the amount of waste we've managed to divert from landfills thus far. ✅

That over-the-moon feeling when you exceed your own waste diversion target of 80%! 💥

With more and more projects beginning to wrap up - it means we can now start sharing the NUMBERS! What's been salvaged, how much of it has been salvaged and where it's gone. 🌱

Our journey in Muriwai is now in its 15th week and we have never been more proud of our team for their efforts in ensuring that we are aiming to reach beyond our waste minimisation goals. Our unwavering gratitude also extends out to the local community, we thank you for all the ongoing support and appreciate your eagerness in wanting to understand more about what's happening, timelines and our sustainable practises! 🤝

With this week being Samoan Language Week, we wanted to highlight a very special member of our team - Introducing Jack Samaauga aka Baki! 💥

🔹Baki is a proud Samoan man whose values in life weave through his alofa for AIGA. Baki’s dad hails from Laulii i Upolu i Apia, and his mum is from Fogapoa ma Faletagaloa Safune i Savaii: “We grew up in the Catholic faith, and I am the youngest out of my 8 siblings. In 1987, my parents migrated to New Zealand for a better life and better job and school opportunities. New Zealanders had a different lifestyle than back home, and although my family had to adapt, we always kept our culture and values alive.” Says Baki. What he does in his downtime now outside of TROW Group is a reflection of the quality time he’d spend with his dad and younger relatives growing up, which was fishing on his family boat and the nearby rocks. The days Baki and his family had a “good catch” were the days Baki was first exposed to the impacts of kindness by offering a bulk of their catch to their neighbours. To this day, we will all continue to know Baki as being that same KIND person in the workplace.

🔹We asked Baki what his most significant achievement was and how it has changed who he is as a person for the better; he said, “It would have to be becoming a father to my two boys, as I am now looking at life through a different lens. Everything I would like to do and achieve in life is to pave the way towards a better future for them. They have become my motivation.”

🔹Before Baki joined TROW Group, he was experienced in concrete works and fencing; however, after joining our team, what he was ultimately excited about was the reality of how far materials can actually go. “I enjoy working for TROW because there is no company that has the same economic and social implications in place. During my time of employment, it was the first time I’d seen a company salvage materials from projects, where the materials are then donated to the islands to help schools and churches.” Baki said. Currently, he has begun to learn how to operate a digger and how to separate materials (e.g., wood from general rubbish), which makes us, as a company that aims to build our staff into Environmental Change Makers, SUPER EXCITED!

🔹We are so grateful to have Baki with us at Trow Group and have enjoyed celebrating him and his vibrant Samoan heritage throughout this week. Not only has he made a huge contribution to the high-quality work we provide today, but he has also surprised himself with his growth, not only through familiarising himself with what a circular economy looks like, but more importantly as a person, a leader, and as a proud descendant of his Samoan lineage.

"Ole ala ile p**e ole tautua".
The path to leadership is through service.

💚An exciting time to say the least!

♻️We are grateful to the the wider planning team across this project and look forward to bringing our methodology and vision to the Northcote community within a Circular Economy.

Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa! Happy Samoan Language everyone! 🇼🇸

🌊The 2024 theme for Samoa Language Week is 'Tautua i le alofa, manuia le lumana’i – Serve in love for a blessed future - which is a theme that aligns effortlessly with our values here at TROW Group.

✨Te Onewa 2024

What a morning it was acknowledging and reminiscing memories of a place that for generations has been a pillar within the community.

Our new project in Te Onewa is starting next week. However a very key part of our process and an important cultural practice for our own tikanga as a company - is to bless all our projects, therefore we invited our whanau at AWATAHA Marae (local to Northcote), to perform a blessing in honour of its history.

We thank everyone who made it out and are so grateful for all the support. 🤝

Deconstruction of Category 3 properties | Auckland Council 06/05/2024

💬“The first storm-affected homes in Auckland have been deconstructed with the salvaged materials finding new homes across the community. We have started in Muriwai and we estimate at least 600 storm-damaged homes will be deconstructed over the next two years.” ← Auckland Council

🌱Breathing new life into materials coming out of category 3 homes is just one part that makes up Deconstruction - what happens once it's salvaged, the extension of its pre-existing history and the positive impact it has on the community is where the true power of Deconstruction shines.

💚 Reducing our Carbon Footprint in Muriwai

🌿 Using Shipping Containers as a form of stockpiling and storing materials coming out of projects is a method we’ve used since the inception of our Deconstruction ideology. We've used our most recently completed site as a test pilot for what this method would look like in Muriwai and due to its success we are now moving forward with this method for ALL our Muriwai Deconstruction Projects.

♻️ The fundamental purpose of using containers is to ensure we are reducing our Carbon Footprint. Rather than taking 4 Truckloads back and forth, all the required transportation for a container is ‘the drop-off’ and ‘the pick up’ – The capacity of materials our containers can hold is equal to FIVE Truckloads.

🌏 Thinking site specifically - Muriwai is full of native landscapes and embedded in the vibrant culture of free-range living - Being able to offer this container method where there are as few trucks as possible disturbing the pre-existing peace in the community, is a solution that we were excited to start these last couple of weeks.

🌱 We're eager to continue future-proofing our processes and uncovering new ways to protect the whenua and the people surrounding it.

Today we rewind to our visit from MP Phil Twyford in early March. 🙌

It was a very insightful day filled with thought-provoking conversations surrounding the Waste and Infrastructure sector - and creating a pathway of future collaboration to ensure Sustainability and a Circular Economy are reflected in all decision-making across Aotearoa. 🌍

In light of MP Phil Twyford’s community contribution to the recovery process in Tamaki Makaurau following Cyclone Gabrielle in 2023, we saw a perfect opportunity to get him involved with the release of our Muriwai Website by letting him click ‘PUBLISH”. 📣

Being able to weave our vision of innovation and sustainability through these conversations with those like MP Phil Twyford who can offer support in those goals - is super important to us. Especially when those goals include growing while bringing our people and communities alongside us 🤝

We look forward to welcoming you and the team again soon, continuing to grow this newfound relationship for the betterment of Papatūānuku and our PEOPLE.

What is deconstruction? and How is it different to Demolition?

Just these two images say it all.

✅Careful Deconstruction of Home
✅Building and Wall frames intact
✅A Environmental, Sustainability and Circular Economy focus
✅For the Community By the Community
✅On-site team is Safe & Seki
✅Ready to Salvage & Recycle

Not everyone will understand what these pictures mean to us, but reflecting on where our methodology started in just a small shed with a 2 man team - to see it become a process that is now vital to the industry's mission in environmental preservation is truly mind-blowing.

Our crazy imagination plus our innovation created an essence of revitalisation and restoration of Papatuanuku - what a journey.

A couple of weeks ago we had the awesome team at McConnell Dowell approach us in need of some recycled crushed concrete for one of their current projects. To ensure our concrete was the eligible GAP65 concrete the team were after, they had organised WSP to come through and assess/test our concrete, and what do you know… not even tinder could get a better match. 🙌🏽

💬 Have a read of the statement made from the Project Controls Manager on what the plan are for the recycled crushed concrete:

“Recycled Crushed Concrete (RCC) is scheduled to be placed as backfill over the top of the Services Tunnel for the Auckland Hospital campus over the next few months. Using RCC instead of crushed aggregate from the nearest quarry (Hunua) is great for the environment and it means we reduce our emissions by 6.23 Ton CO2e. The 240-long Tunnel and five-storey plant building are currently being built by McConnell Dowell and their commercial building subsidiary, Built Environs.”

We thank you for getting in touch and we look forward to collaborating again soon. 🤝🏽

🌱What an honour it was to be a part of this Kaupapa 2 years in a row as the naming sponsor of the “TROW 18 Hole Charity Challenge” - only this year, we had an intruder called rain!

⛳️Last Friday in collaboration with AutismNZ we saw this epic event come to life, a meaningful kaupapa that consisted of friendly competitive golf with maximum benefits for our Autism whanau - alongside other advocate sponsors we now call our golf buddies!

✨We’ve loved every bit of working alongside Neil and AutismNZ, from the vibrant team right through to the beautiful kaupapa they stand for! With World Autism Awareness Day 2024 just around the corner, we are grateful for the meaningful connections we’ve created Neil and his team and will continue to always tautoko the empowerment they lead for an inclusive society, ensuring everyone has an equitable shot at success.

🤝We look forward to teaming up again very soon and continuing to explore other ideas that can in turn create something tangible for our Autism community in Aotearoa just like the “TROW 18 Hole Charity Challenge”.

Preparations are in full swing for an incredibly meaningful project set to commence this Monday! 🌊

We're gearing up to begin work on the first home in Muriwai for 2024. This project holds profound significance as it aims to deconstruct/relocate homes that bore witness to the tears of Tāwhirimātea during Cyclone Gabrielle, transforming them into spaces filled with history, and enduring memories. 🏡

We're deeply grateful for the opportunity to contribute to this vibrant community. Our approach involves the method of Deconstruction, through which we aim to salvage over 80% of materials from each home. By doing so, we're not just renovating, but also extending the life, history, and lineage of these materials, creating a tangible connection to the past. ✨

Stay tuned for further updates and collaborative efforts surrounding this project. Join us on this journey as we build the future by restoring the past. 🌸

🌸 Celebrating our Friday, by Appreciating our Women. 🌸

We are so grateful for the Mana Wahine that weaves through the heart of our mahi here at Trow Group. Our beautiful women thrive in an industry that is predominantly male-dominated and can be actively seen across our entire operations from the Tendering team and project management to our communications, grounds team and Senior Leadership.

Our women are the pillars of Trow Group, leading from the core of our kaupapa and brightening everyone's day on site with their smiles while they're at it!

This day is all about our wahine, and we will honour that loud and proud!!

Cheehoo!!
