Round 3 of Daihatsu Challenge race series

Hillman Imp race car being fitted with a BMW motorbike motor for next years Lemons race. Being built by students from Horizon school. Why you might ask. It was cheap. The car was sold to us by another Lemons team which already had rollcage and race suspension. We have fitted Daihatsu Sirion disc brakes. We bought a complete written off BMW motorbike for $800 kept the running gear, sold all the other bits of the bike for $1400 so made a $600 profit and free engine and gearbox.
Car should weigh about 700kg and have 95hp and 6 speed sequential gearbox. It will actually have 24 forward gears and 6 reverse gears as we have kept the Imp gearbox as well.

Well last weekend we had an epic day of racing in the Daihatsu Challenge NZ race series. We came away with two first places and two third placings in our little red Daihatsu Copen. Currently first equal on points
We still need to do a lot of work to improve our car so today we started pulling the engine and gearbox out to make some changes

Horizon students been working hard to finally get this little car to the race track for the first round of Daihatsu Challenge NZ at Hampton Downs Tomorrow
Still lots of work to really get this car competitive but at least we will be there tomorrow doing our best.
Our other car the Mira will be in the hands of Daihatsu Guru Tim Hart.
A total of 7 Challenge cars will be racing tomorrow should be lots of fun

Hi everyone
Just a bit of an update with what the students have been up to this year.
VW Golf GTI - two students have worked incredibly hard changing the water pump and cam belt on this car. Would have to be one of the most difficult jobs to do. Both students have done a great job and this car was started up and running well.

Daihatsu Copen race car - this is a project we started last year. Students have learnt panelbeating skills as this car was a damaged wreak. The car has been finished and recently completed in Nazcar lemons.

Hillman Imp race car - we recently acquired this car. It had no engine or gearbox. We have been stripping this car out. Fixing suspension and brakes and we will be installing a BMW 1150cc motorbike engine in it (final photo). Lots of fabrication work to do. We are trying to build this car very cheap using free parts. Today students were doing electrical wiring making up the wiring loom.
This car we hope to use in a 24 hour Lemon race

Epic day of racing at Taupo yesterday in the Daihatsu Challenge race series especially the last race in the pouring race we got 2nd overall out of about 30 cars. The car was amazing in the wet

Another update. Students have also been working on this Daihatsu Copen race car. It had been in an accident. We are waiting on parts to come from England

Update on what we have been up to this semester.
We have completed an engine swap on the silver Daihatsu Mira for Compact Motorsport to be built into a race car for the Daihatsu Challenge NZ race series
We are progressing with our personal tracked vehicle aka mini tank
This week we started repairing broken down construction machinery.
Plenty of diversity!!!!

Huge shout out to DKM Fabrication for an absolutely awesome rollcage in our Daihatsu Copen. The car is very small and confined and they have made it fit super tight. Thanks guys
