Surprise β¨ On female cannabis plants, three types of glandular trichomes have been described: bulbous, sessile, and stalked (Hammond and Mahlberg, 1973). Male plants have been found to exhibit a fourth type the antherial glandular trichome, which has only been found on anthers (the part of the π± that produces and contains pollen) ππΈ
In cannabis, trichomes have a bitter taste and pungent aromas which serve as a defense mechanism to protect the plant from pests. Trichomes are also responsible for the majority of cannabinoids and terpenes found in the plant. The sticky, bulbous glands can trap and hold tiny insects, while terpenes help keep the plant humid while warding off would-be predators π
As cannabis plants begin producing flowers, trichomes develop along the outer surface of the plant and begin to metabolize the precursors for a wide variety of cannabinoids, such as THCA and CBDA π§¬
Time for trivia πΏπ Do you think there is more than 1 trichome in female cannabis plants? π€

Can it be... a plant that isn't green?! There are many different hues to the magical cannabis plant, and this , we are looking into why certain strains have purple tones πΏπ Let's dive into the science π
Cannabis flowers that are purplish to shades of blue are generally high in a group of chemicals known as anthocyanins (which can also be found in blueberries, cherries, and pomegranate) ππ«
Anthocyanins are a type of flavonoid (water-soluble pigments found in almost all fruits and vegetables) that can appear to be either red, purple, blue or even black, depending on the pH of the plant. Sometimes, the color of the plant is due to the ripening buds approaching harvest.
Purple strains are regularly referred to as strains or cultivators. However, the right term for them would be chemovars. This is because the strain was intentionally created or selected, and maintained by cultivation πΏ
