Traditional sushi was invented in Tokyo. Nigiri Sushi (aka. hand pressed) originated from a sushi called Edomae-zushi. Edo is what Tokyo used to be named. Edomae translates to ‘in front of Edo,' referring to fish caught in front of the Edo castle and at a later point, the fish/shellfish in Tokyo bay.😊
