Hey there, lovely people! I can hardly believe it, but today marks the 2-year anniversary of Blue Tango!! It’s been a crazy journey so far, filled with ups and downs and so much learning 🤯🤯
 
As of this week my journey is taking a slightly different route as I head back to my accounting roots at a new job 🤓🤓 Whilst I’ve loved so much of my Blue Tango journey, it’s been a tough ride the last year 😬 As any small business owner will tell you - the hours are insane and then on top of that, people aren’t spending as much as they used to and some collections were barely selling at all. As a result, I was feeling pretty deflated and burnt out and decided that there was probably a better way to spend all that time I was working on Blue Tango.

My intention is to definitely keep making earrings but I won’t be releasing as often and I won’t be on here as much. That will probably mean that Meta won’t show anyone my reels 🫠🫠 so PLEASE sign up to my mailing list if you want to be sure to hear about my new collections! This 👆👆 is raw Niobium; the material used to make the earring hooks we use at Blue Tango. For those with sensitive ears, niobium is a dream come true. Unlike some metals that can cause irritation and discomfort, niobium is actually inert, making it an excellent choice for earrings.
The other really cool thing about Niobium is that it can be anodised into lots of different colours! I always get the gold coloured Niobium but next time I make an order I’m going to check out some of the other colours of anodised Niobium like pink 💕

Here are 5 lies you need to stop believing RIGHT NOW!

🍉 Clay earrings may look heavy as they can be quite thick when you look at them side on. BUT clay earrings are actually super light! Approx 4-5 grams for a single earring. That’s the same weight as 4 paperclips!
🥒 That the White Lotus is a good tv show …. It AIN’T! It’s like watching paint dry!!!!
🍏 That your Clay earrings will melt in the sun. No. They may fade if you leave them in the sun but they definitely won’t melt 😀
🥬 That hypo-allergenic earrings won’t irritate your ears. WRONG. Hypo-allergenic just means there is minimal amounts of allergy causing metals in the earring ie Nickel. BUT THERE IS STILL NICKEL in the earring and these earrings can still irritate your ears.
🥑 That Justin Timberlake is a good guy …. nah-uh after what he did to Brit!?!? Dude should be cancelled!!!

The absolutely biggest myth about being an Earring designer is that I must be super stylish and always dressed amazingly.

Um …. yeah, nah! Most of the time you’ll find me in either jeans and a tee or a maxi dress in summer. BUT at least I know my earrings are always super stylish 😜

What’s the biggest myth about the industry you’re in?

Ever wondered why I decided to start selling my earrings? My entire life I could only wear plain gold studs but after discovering Niobium hooks and Titanium posts overseas I discovered I was FINALLY able to wear some gorgeous colourful earrings! It was like this whole new world opened up to me!

And that’s where Blue Tango started - as a way for other people who can’t wear most of the earrings available out there, to actually be able to throw a pair of Blue Tango earrings on and know they won’t react to them AND they will look absolutely fantastic and funky at the same time

Ever wondered about the timeframes for receiving your earrings? Well, wonder no more! Here’s the answer to one of our most frequently asked questions 👇👇

It’ll generally take me 2️⃣4️⃣ hours to get your earrings off to the post office but I’d allow up to 4️⃣8️⃣ hours during sales time and school holidays. As I don’t know if you’re going to select clip on earrings or not, I can’t attach any hooks or posts to your earrings until your order comes through. Attaching posts in particular can take a day as they need to be glued AND resined.

Once I’ve dropped them at the post office you can expect to receive them within 1-3 days dependent on the mood of NZ post 😜

Remember you can also select ‘courier’ at checkout and that *should* get to you within 1 business day!

What’s your experience with NZ Post? Mine has luckily been really good so far!!! They have yet to lose anything! 🤞🏻🤞🏻

Ooohhhh I am pretty excited about this mould I just made this morning! Despite only launching a new collection last night I have to start preparing for the new one in a few weeks time 😬 The hustle is real!!

Confession time - I am NOT a sporty fitspo kind of person! It took me until I was in my late 20’s until I finally tried something even closely resembling exercise. I kind of started running on and off for a few years but that gets a bit tricky as a female when the only times you can run are crack of dawn or late at night and there’s no one else around then. PLUS, I really didn’t enjoy running anyway 🤣🤣

After kid’s came along someone told me about an online workout group with 20 minute workouts that could be done whenever you wanted. I sceptically gave it a go and although I found it really hard, after a while I actually started enjoying it! 6 years later I’m still doing online workouts 5 days a week! The feeling you get after doing a workout is amazing - such a sense of achievement and positivity and it gives me the motivation to tackle whatever is coming my way that day. It’s also been so good for my mental health - some days I really can’t be bothered but I know I will ALWAYS feel better mentally after a workout.

So this is just a PSA to let you know that there are other options out there if you’re looking at getting a bit of exercise that aren’t the gym or running!

When I first started Blue Tango, I wish someone had told me just how incredible ‘Canva’ was!!! Canva is an amazing, easy to use online graphic design programme. It can design all your social media posts, you can make all the design elements of your website and emails on there, design your logo or your business cards and even make presentations on it. I use it every single day for Blue Tango and highly recommend it if you do any sort of social media for your business!

Anyone else swear by Canva?

I love my customers and I especially love when they come up with a potential idea for an Item that I can most definitely make for them!

Just before Christmas, a customer was wondering whether I do ‘initial’ necklaces as she was after a ‘B’ and a ‘C’ for her two girls. She’d looked high and low for something that was small and glittery pink and she’d not found anything in NZ.

I’d never done this before so it took me a while to find the right sized moulds - I ended up getting some Chocolate Moulds from a cake store as every other resin mould was too big for a 4 year old! And of course I had about 30 different pink glitters in my stash, so I was able to give her exactly what she wanted.

Absolutely love these! The perfect size for me and my fav colour scheme. I have super sensitive ears to so many and these have been great. I’m always a little cautious when trying a new type so these have hit the ball out of the park and I can’t wait to start building a little collection!
