Imagine our surprise when we checked our bank account and we found out that $5000 had been donated by Kami!

Kami was developed by four university friends who wanted to make a difference. Ten years later, they’ve grown into a team of over 100 Kami-leons with a shared goal of supporting classroom heroes.

Kami simplifies workflows, increases student engagement, reduces printing costs, and saves trees too! The app aims to level the playing field so that “all students – no matter their age, grade, or ability – can love learning”.

Showcasing another generous mama-owned business that’s been supporting is since last year :

Meet Natalie 👋 She’s a mama of two & the founder of maternity brand Go Mama.
She started Go Mama to help support women after experiencing her own postnatal challenges and using exercise as a management tool to help her overcome these. Natalie wanted to create a brand that would offer a range of quality and affordable clothing, fitness equipment & accessories. Go Mama’s aim is to help build the connection between physical activity and mental wellbeing by breaking down some of the barriers to exercise and offering products that motivate and inspire Mamas to feel their best.

Her favourite parts of the business are meeting other Mamas & getting to help all women on their motherhood journey 💕

Why do we do what we do?

FACING THE HARD FACTS AND NUMBERS
In the year ending June 2020, 58,500 children were born across New Zealand. Stats New Zealand has reported that 13.4% of children lived in a household experiencing material hardship. This means they could not access essential items such as fresh fruit or vegetables, were putting off a visit to the doctors or were unable to pay a basic utility bill on time.

These numbers translate to an urgent need for 7,839 Bare Necessities care packs per year.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU DONATE?
You take a significant amount of financial pressure off a new mother and help her to focus on meeting her child's needs with a positive outlook and hope. You empower her to welcome her new child into a world where she is treated with dignity and compassion.

WHAT WILL CONTINUE TO HAPPEN IF WE CONTINUE TO TURN A BLIND EYE?
Poverty is one of the contributing risk factors to post natal depression. Mothers living in poor housing and with little money to spend are at higher risk of developing post natal depression. Developmentally speaking, the prenatal stage to age five has been identified as particularly important. Childhood poverty adversely affects adult employment, education, income, health and cognitive outcomes.
