Take a stand for transparent food labelling! Amidst the lack of legislation protecting consumers from vague product labelling, it's time to advocate for change. We've launched a petition urging the government to standardise labelling for vegetarian and vegan products in NZ.
๐ Please help by signing and sharing this petition: https://our.actionstation.org.nz/petitions/ban-misleading-labelling-for-vegetarian-and-vegan-products
Why is this important? ๐ค
With the increase in the use of buzzwords on packaging, it is becoming unclear what is in our food unless you read through the entire list of ingredients. We want clear labelling and a ban on using vague and misleading terms. Consumers need to know what they are buying without reading everything on the packet. This is important not only for vegans and vegetarians but also for those allergic to animal ingredients such as egg and dairy.
We envision a future where consumers can make informed, ethical, and confident choices about the products they purchase. By advocating for clear, standardised, and enforceable labelling regulations, we aim to eliminate ambiguity and ensure transparency in the labelling of vegetarian, and vegan products. ๐ฑ
The Vegan Society of Aotearoa, New Zealand
Ministry for Primary Industries
Ban Misleading Labelling for Vegetarian and Vegan Products Sign the petition calling for factual and clear labelling on consumer products.
Happy Matariki! ๐ Wishing everyone a vibrant Mฤori New Year filled with unity and sustainability. โจ

๐ Did you know? Since 2014, Hell Pizza have certified their vegetarian and vegan pizzas with our Vegetarian Approved and Vegan Certified trademarks! ๐ฑ
Let's take a closer look at what it means when you see the Vegetarian Approved trademark on a Hell Pizza. Here are 5 ways they're saving your veggies from straying morsels of meat:
โ
Changing gloves to make vegetarian pizzas
โ
Keeping ingredients separate from meat
โ
Marking each vegetarian pizza with a 'V'
โ
Slicing with a dedicated pizza blade
โ
Maintaining NZ Vegetarian Society's strict trademark standards

I was super stoked to see my winter recipe contribution to the Vegetarian Living Magazine picture as the front cover shot, thanks guys! I have been sharing recipes and food photos in every seasonal edition for many years now, my little helping hand to the NZ Vegetarian Society who work hard to spread the plant-based love throughout NZ. The magazine is available from vegetarian.org.nz

This Mexican Comida shot is from Abundance my latest cookbook. We love Mexican inspired meals and they are great crowd pleasers. The mole is a versatile recipe that can be made with pulled wheat meat, plant-based mince, jackfruit or lentils or a mixture, and is perfect for filling soft tacos. Rice and beans are a perfect protein hit, as the combination makes it a complete protein. Complete proteins are what our bodies need every day to stay healthy. This combination contains all the essential amino acids our body doesnโt make on its own. The cauliflower popcorn is a play on Mexicans love of corn. These little crispy bites are healthy, crunchy on the outside tender on the inside and are a perfect accompaniment to a Mexican meal. My version of guacamole keeps it simple and I love to have my jalapeno fix incorporated into the mix. Toasted pumpkin seeds are not only tasty they add a nice crunch to the meal. They are nutrient rich, high in protein and dietary fiber so scatter them liberally over your meal and enjoy
๐ฎ
Fun fact, the reason I got onto social media so I could share my food photos, I'm constantly taking photos of food and plants, I just love it! Having a platform to share these on really gave me the confidence to nurture this string to my bow and then go on to photograph 3 cookbooks!

๐ SAI Eatery, Napier
We spent Easter weekend in Napier and had substantial culinary success! One of the most beautiful places we dined at was Sai Eatery. Sai is a modern Thai cuisine restaurant that uses high-quality ingredients, lovely tableware (they also have a pottery shop) and superb service. ๐
We started with Saiโs Caramelised Tofu - crispy silken tofu with five-spice soy caramelised sauce. This is a small dish to crave! It has the perfect balance between soft and crispy and the sauce that is poured when they serve the dish. Our next dish was not on the regular menu - Tapioca Pearl Balls filled with sh*take mushrooms, red onion, peanuts, sweet turnip, pepper, and soy sauce. What a delicate and elegant dish! So many flavours came together with each bite. ๐
We had two additional dishes at Sai: Hed Tod, a combination of crispy fresh organic Lion's Mane, Sh*take, and Black Fungus mushrooms with sesame seeds and sweet chilli sauce, and wok-fried vegetables that were simple, light, and well done. We complemented dinner with a refreshing, dry, and crisp local NZVS Vegan Certified Paynter's Cider, making it perfect for this lovely vegan meal. โ
We will definitely come back to Sai the next time we are in Hawkeโs Bay! It was a fulfilling dining experience with great vibes! ๐
