Recent windy weather has defoliated the now dormant vines now. Tough job of pruning has started of around 10,000 vines which takes around 2-3 months to complete along with other maintenance jobs such as replacing broken posts and wire tensioning.

The fine weather today finally lets us to get back into vineyard for much needed catchup work. Weeds around the winery, Under vine w**d maintenance and another lawn mow before winter sets in properly.
Few more leaves to fall then the big job of pruning begins 🫣

Probably been one of the saddest couple weeks on memory across the country with such devastation and plenty of businesses and homes/lives lost!

Our winery itself is mostly unscathed but the vineyard is pretty badly damaged and we have a huge job ahead saving some of the countries oldest grape vines and rebuilding a huge amount of trellis!
Our priority however is to urgently repair some of the less visible damage and upgrade the civil infrastructure on our property to prevent issues from any upcoming rainfall events as we experienced significant runoff come across our property. We are currently in discussion with local council regarding the streams that run through our property which have been compromised and pose new potential flooding threats to the area - these also require significant civil works.

The Vineyard will be repaired with heavy machinery and pile drivers as soon as we can finish urgent repairs to the driveway and stormwater system which is vital right now. Untill we can allocate resources to this please refrain from the area around Opanuku Stream Banks/Misty Valley near our vineyard entirely, it may look pretty safe but there is huge amount of instability in the area and loose wires/posts - each collapsed row weighs 3-4 Tonne and if wires snap they can easily cause injury or even worse eye damage.

Hello Everyone -
Our gates, cellar door and winery will be entirely closed off to the public from the Monday 20th February until Friday or Saturday 25th February to enable contractors to perform wide-spread civil works and repairs at the winery including removal and relaying of the driveway.
We will keep you updated on here with the progress.... but we are hoping to be back on the weekend with grapes and wine sales at the cellar door.
