It’s official 🔥 The Workout For Water challenge in partnership with UNICEF Aotearoa kicks off tomorrow on the 22nd of March. It’s not too late to sign up: https://workoutforwater.org/en/new-zealand?region=nz
For too many children around the world, their days are spent travelling long distances just to get water. There’s no rest day. It’s 7 days a week. That’s why we’re taking on the Les Mills and UNICEF challenge - 450 reps - every day - for 7 days! The top two fundraising individuals and top fundraising team will be coming to Berlin, Germany in October for LES MILLS LIVE Berlin.
“As a group fitness manager, I taught eight classes a week and trained five times a week. And when it’s your first time becoming a Mum, you have no understanding of how it’s going to unfold. I had thoughts like, will people think I should get off the stage? How am I going to look? And how will I be perceived in my job?
During pregnancy, it was a mix of beauty and struggle. With advice from my midwife and pelvic physio, I had adjusted to low impact workouts like cycling to accommodate my growing belly.
Welcoming my baby brought so much joy but also sleepless nights and round-the-clock feeding. Yet, amidst the chaos, I knew I needed to prioritise self-care. With support from my husband and healthcare professionals, I gradually eased back into fitness postpartum.
Managing fitness postpartum can come with its own set of challenges, navigating the changes in hormones, sleep, and my day-to-day routine. Finding small moments for myself - whether it was a short workout or listening to loud music in the car by myself - became essential for my well-being. I’m a firm believer in filling your cup so you can be the best for those around you.
Physically, my body went through significant changes, as many mums do. Birth injuries required me to get advice from a pelvic physio, which was really helpful in my recovery. Learning to accept and appreciate my new body took time and patience. It wasn’t about rushing to “bounce back” but rather about understanding and embracing my postpartum self.
Throughout this journey, I’ve learned the importance of seeking guidance from healthcare professionals, leaning on loved ones for support, and being gentle with myself. Every mum’s journey is unique, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to fitness during and after pregnancy.
So, if there’s one thing I’d like to share with other mums, it’s this: be kind to yourself, trust your instincts, and embrace the beautiful journey of motherhood, one step at a time. It’s messy, it’s beautiful and it’s uniquely yours.” - Grace Laybourn, Group Fitness Manager, Les Mills Taranaki Street.
450 punches in how many minutes? Philip Auina, you’re up next 😮💨
🚰 Over 450 million children from around the world spend their days travelling long distances just to get water. So, we’ve teamed up with UNICEF Aotearoa to challenge you to join us in the challenge - 450 reps - every day - for 7 days!
Back your Fitness Instructor, create a team or sign up individually to take on the challenge starting on the 22nd of March.
Plus, we’ll send the top two individual fundraisers and the top fundraising team to the ultimate training festival LES MILLS LIVE in October 2024. Accommodation, tickets, and ‘backstage passes’ are all included.

“In 2009, I took my first step into the Les Mills world starting as a receptionist. Since then, I’ve worn many hats – from leading group fitness classes to organising events and eventually becoming a personal trainer. Today I’m proud to say I’m the PT Manager at our Taranaki Street club in Wellington.
Being a leader in what could be considered a male-dominated industry can be intimidating. Sometimes, I’ve felt pressure to fit into an “authoritative” mould, but you know what? I’ve learned that true leadership comes from embracing who I am and celebrating the skills I bring to the table.
I was inspired by Larna Kingi, my manager at Lambton Quay, who played a pivotal role in my career. Seeing a Māori woman take charge in a Les Mills club was a game-changer for me…it’s not something you see every day, you know? And it wasn’t just Larna – there was Mid Thomas too, managing the Hutt City club.
Representation is everything. Seeing someone like you in a position you never thought possible opens up a whole new world of possibilities. It’s like, “Hey, if they can do it, why not me?”
Looking back on my journey, I want to be that person for someone else. By stepping up and breaking those barriers, I hope to inspire other wāhine to lead within the fitness industry. It’s about creating a community where everyone feels like they belong and anything is achievable.” - Ash Cameron, PT Manager, Les Mills Taranaki Street
