The Auckland Boxing Association (ABA) is proud to announce the launch of its Hall of Fame, with legendary heavyweight boxer David Tua being honoured as the first inductee, before he moves to Samoa with his wife. The inaugural Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on 26th October at ABA Stadium, celebrating Tua's monumental contribution to boxing in New Zealand and his global impact on the sport.

David Tua, our greatest boxing export had a career that spanned over two decades with many challenges along the way. He earned respect both as a fierce competitor and as a man of character and integrity. He challenged for the heavyweight Championship of the World and earned the distinction of being appointed an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit.

His journey from Samoa to New Zealand and to becoming a global icon has been nothing short of inspirational to many generations. His dedication, discipline, and sportsmanship has made him a role model to aspiring athletes across the Pacific and the world.

The induction ceremony on Saturday 26th October, will bring together New Zealand’s boxing community, with David and his wife Helen, local dignitaries, and fans to celebrate Tua's career and his lasting influence on the sport. This event marks the beginning of a tradition that will see other greats of New Zealand boxing honoured for their contributions.

“We are thrilled to recognize David Tua’s exceptional career as we launch the Auckland Boxing Association’s Hall of Fame,” said ABA President Paul McSharry “David’s journey is a true testament to the spirit of boxing, both in New Zealand and globally. His dedication, sportsmanship, and achievements have left an indelible mark on the sport, and we couldn’t think of a more deserving inaugural inductee.”

The ceremony will also feature speeches from notable figures in the boxing world, reflecting on Tua’s career and the future of New Zealand boxing. In addition to the induction, the event will serve as a celebration of the sport’s vibrant history and ongoing growth in the country.
