We say with great proud sadness that we have completed this stunning transformation and have now set these beauties free into the world! 🤩

We are going to miss this new friend - once again we completed this install and follow up over four very peaceful and enjoyable sessions.. (some of us may even have taken naps! ☺️). Spreading your transformation out this way is a great option for those who live locally, as it allows us to create perfect starter locs stress-free around school, work, or kindy commitments.👌🏼

For this client dreads represent so much. She’s feeling empowered spiritually, she looks incredible, and she’s now able to ditch the hairbrush for good. Sweeping 🧹out old energies to bring a new realm of identity thats more in line with what she’s wanted for so long. 🙏🏼

From our initial consultation we discussed concerns about possible thinning, and then crafted an incredible finished look using organic methods to dread her own hair permanently and add volume and length with low-maintenance and affordable synthetic extensions. 🌟

As always we encourage our clients to follow a few aftercare tips and learn simple crochet maintenance techniques so that you can keep your locs looking fab in your own time and space (and wave goodbye to spending money at the salon too!). For this client, it’s going to be a breeze! 😎

One of the best things ever is seeing dreads mature over the first few years after install. It’s so rewarding, and an honour to be a part of the journey! 💛

Was great to see this client again last Sunday.. his locks are coming along so nicely after a slow start. He works hard and wears a helmet a lot, so conditions aren’t ideal.. but his hair and scalp are looking super healthy and his dreads are locking together nicely.

This client started off with a partial and very quickly realised that she wanted to get fully dreaded. 😁

We spread this one out over a number of very enjoyable sessions to work around childcare and convenience. She loved them more and more each time!

Was such a pleasure to see them completed last week, a combination of natural dreads with synthetic tips for length .. we think they’re looking 🔥🔥🔥

While this may at first glance seem like standard before and after post, this picture speaks a thousand words. The transformation between these two images is so much more than what is visible to the eye. ✨

This special one is being shared with (as always) express permission of our client. It’s about as far from standard as it gets, and it’s been an absolute honour to be a part of this. 💛

Since her install, our lovely client experienced an unfathomable loss. She has walked a path that no mother should ever have to walk, although sadly she is not alone. She had the foresight to preserve her cherished connection and asked me to create a dread from the hair of her lost loved one.

Last week we locked the strands together so she can always have that person close. 💗

Dreads are a journey of meaning and relevance. In many cultures they have for centuries represented a connection to spirit. This gesture embodies that connection in a truly tangible sense. Such a powerful, beautiful idea that called to her that day.

It’s been an honour and truly humbling to have been a part of this journey with this beautiful, powerful wahine. We’ve shared our tears and our deepest selves in these sessions and over cups of tea. To our kind, compassionate, caring friend grappling with life’s biggest curveball yet - we hope you’ve always felt safe, and held here at ours. We will always be here for you and your dreads 💚

To anyone dealing with grief or loss, please take the time to reach out to your network for support. Find ways to keep those memories alive because our hearts never forget. Remember - you are so loved, and even in life’s biggest challenges, you are not alone 💜

Stoked to share these pics from our first (official) Deep Clean Dread Maintenance Session ☺️

We had a few minor hiccups at the beginning but our super lovely client was so understanding and we were sorted in no time. We learned a few things along the way but also gave these epic dreads a good loving and he left feeling and looking fly! 😎

Swipe across for our picture of the soak.. some pesky areas of stubborn buildup eluded us however we have made a solid plan to tackle these trouble spots next time 👌🏼 after a thorough deep clean and scalp massage, we dried these babies off proper and finished with crochet root maintenance and peppermint castor scalp oils 💛

Just another incredible transformation this week 🤩💚

This was a challenging install, as my lovely client has super fine hair with lots of breakage along the lengths. She wanted to try dreads so after careful colour selection we went with a few shades of The Dread Shop’s synthetic extensions… including a discontinued (therefore very limited!) honey blonde ombre which has us 🤤🤤🤤

These babies were tight and stiff to start, quite different from her previous light, thin hair. Not only that, but she loves them long! We have advised she watches closely for signs of tension and pulling because we 💜 happy hair follicles!

They’ll take a few weeks to wear in and loosen up but even brand new, they look great! 🙌🏼 We are so thankful for this client - she was a real treat to spend time with and we hope to see her again for rebraids when the time is right ✨

Was lovely to have this wahine toa join me and trust me in (partially) recreating her youth! 😝 Having had dreads previously, she was wanting something low maintenance to add volume and uniqueness to her hair.

After much thought and discussion we settled on a temporary install using double ended synthetic extensions. She’s chosen some awesome colours which really suit her hair colour and skin tone. We also personalised them with a few cheeky dread wraps to finish ✨

Considering that her hair was a challenging texture (super slippery with lots of breakage along the length) and overall this took a little longer than planned, I’m really happy with the result! Welcome back to dread life and we look forward to supporting you in the continuation of your new dread journey 💚

Freeform locs. Yes, they can look THIS good!

This incredible lady popped up from the Deep South (Dunedin, NZ) to see me last week. She’s one of life’s absolute gems, and it was such a great session filled with yarns, laughs, and moments of clarity. 💗

These dreads are mostly free-form.. in fact, some of her hair hadn’t even found it’s way into a dread yet! But, they’re super mature and healthy, each one with its own enchanting characteristics.

First of all we started with getting these squeaky clean, then followed with a full head of crochet root and length maintenance. I finished off by adding some nutritious and fragrant black castor and peppermint oils to her scalp, and then rubbing each dread down with the moisturising magic of Dread Empire’s dread balm. Omgoshhh.. they look, feel, and smell amazing!! 🤩

Wow. 🤩 I sometimes get so caught up in the process that I just don’t realise how far we’ve come until I put some before and after shots together. 👀

All dreadlocs look better after a maintenance session but the sheer volume of this client’s dreads (not to mention his work as a tractor mechanic) mean these ones benefit immensely from regular upkeep. Plus, we had ten years of work to catch up on! 😅

Yes they look great but I’m also not-so-secretly dreaming of try to lift some of the deep-seated grime with a bicarb soak on these babies for sure ☺️😉

A cheeky temporary install for this lovely client who chose a GORGEOUS auburn shade.. adding volume, culture and vibes to her naturally lush hair. The session itself was chilled and enjoyable and we were lucky enough to meet her gorgeous, strong pēpi who I have no doubt will be crawling around in no time! 🥰

The 1st March has changed my life on a number of different occasions, and today it brought bold, beautiful transformation for this wahine toa too!

This client had a few special considerations which directed us from our first consult towards this simple, statement piece. Due to her hair length being less than two inches in many places (and combined with her eagerness to get ) we used a combination of permanent and temporary installation for an instant result that speaks VOLUMES. 🔊

It was challenging to work with such short hair, but we had a clear vision and with the help of some premium extensions and a pinch of magic Dread Dust (both courtesy of our friends at ) we were able to pull it together. She then went home and showed off her new to her unsuspecting partner. What an absolute boss! 👑 😁🙌🏼

Cheeky set on a very special lady today! Our latest guest wanted a single-row of permanent installation and chose to go with human hair extensions. These extensions are 8mm thick and I’m in LOVE with the quality! We had some great yarns and I’ve learned a bit more about rongoā Māori.
