The new wave of Spanish wines is the most exciting in the world right now! For the first time in New Zealand we have just landed the stunning range from Bodegas Frontonio. With some of the coolest labels we have ever seen.

Click the link here to view the range. https://tinyurl.com/Frontonio

The passion project of Fernando Mora MW and oenologist Mario López in the Valdejalón appellation of Aragón. These scintillating wines are some of the very best in the country. Best of all, prices are very fair for the high quality—and the quality begins in the vineyard: They own fifty hectares in these rocky clay-limestone and red slate mountains, at 600-1000m with north-facing slopes to emphasize freshness. These are very old organic dry farmed bush vines.

Producing small parcel wines with lots of whole cluster, fermented with indigenous yeasts in concrete, aged in large old foudres in their ancient caves. They’re epic. And although this is Garnacha country the whites are every bit as fascinating and delicious as the reds.

The winery is named after Saint Frontonio, the Patron Saint of the village. According to legend, Frontonio was beheaded by the Romans, his head found upstream after it had been thrown into the Ebro. Going against the current is at the heart of this project, hence the name Frontonio.

BAROLO 2020 & BARBARESCO 2021 - INDENT OFFER

We hope you enjoy this year’s indent offer on the deliciously approachable 2020 Barolos, and the incredible 2021 Barbaresco’s.

This includes wines from some of the greatest producers in Piedmont. Azelia, Bruno Rocca, Conterno Fantino, Elvio Cogno, - Vigna Rionda and the legendary Vietti.

Click the link here to view the offer. https://mailchi.mp/caros/barolo-2020-barbaresco-2021-indent-offer

These were vintages produced under the testing circumstances of COVID-19, described by many producers as a unique period in which they could devote all their time to the vineyard, explaining higher-quality wines.

The Barolo 2020's are that rare vintage for the region that is immediately appealing and superbly drinkable. These have flesh and succulent fruit, combined with a superb balance of refined soft tannins. These are Barolo that you don’t need to keep for a decade plus to enjoy, perfect for short to medium term cellaring.

The reviews are only just starting to come out for the 2021 Barbaresco’s, but all signs point to an all-time great year. These are incredibly exciting wines, with gorgeous aromatics, vibrant complex fruit, exceptional balance, and great definition between the sites. The value proposition in Barbaresco is still exceptional good as well.

Many of these bottlings are only available to New Zealand in very small quantities. This year we will only receive 6 bottles of some of the top wines.

Place your order as soon as possible, as we will need to allocate the rarest wines.

These are expected to land Spring 2024. Payment on arrival.

TUSCANY FINE WINE OFFER 2024

"The wines of 2019 appear to be poised to be remembered as truly outstanding Brunellos. To be clear, these wines have achieved some of the highest scores I ever remember doling out to Montalcino’s wines."
-Ian D'Agata

This years offer includes four perfect 100/100 wines! We hope you enjoy selecting from this very special Tuscan collection, the heart and soul of Italian wine.

This is a fantastic indent offer that we have been working on for some time. It includes a number of exciting wines that we have never been able to offer before. The biggest problem is deciding what to buy, as there is too many great wines!

Click the following link to read the offer. https://mailchi.mp/caros/tuscany-2024-indent-offer-brunello-super-tuscans-chianti

The literal translation of the name, the "blood of Jove", refers to the Roman god Jupiter. It’s ability to express terroir and age gracefully, has earned it revered status among wine enthusiasts worldwide.

We are proud to present wines from the 2019-2021 vintages, where Sangiovese excelled in Tuscany. These are spectacular years that are in huge demand internationally. Many of these special wines are therefore only available to New Zealand in very small numbers (as low as just two cases).

"This is one of the most exciting new domaines to have emerged from Chablis in the past decade. The wines are stunning."

Chablis is one of our fastest selling wines, and we just can't keep them in stock. Our long search for a top quality new producer has lead us to Domaine de l'Enclos - Chablis , rapidly becoming one of the most exciting in the appellation. And with tiny production and every vintage sold out overseas, we were extremely lucky to secure an allocation for New Zealand. These wines will sell out fast!

Click here for the offer. https://mailchi.mp/caros/rare-chablis-domaine-de-lenclos

Romain and Damien Bouchard founded the estate only in 2016, yet they are the fourth generation to toil the classic chalky, Kimmeridgian soils of Chablis. For almost a hundred years the family has provided other winemakers with peerless Chardonnay fruit, pulled from impressive holdings across grand cru and premier cru vineyards, planted carefully by family hands. They sold their father’s négociant business in 2015, but retained for themselves, the 29 hectares of domaine vineyard that their mother’s family had owned.

Today these vines are in their prime, ranging from 30 to over 60 years old. With a philosphy of "living soils, healthy and ripe grapes, simple and natural practices, few interventions, monitoring and patience", the perfectionist brothers have set a new, higher standard for the character-driven wines of Chablis. Their holdings include some four acres of Grand cru vineyards, and around 20 acres of Premier cru land; with the rest in Chablis and Petit Chablis. The brothers began organic conversion immediately, and all of the wines from the domain are organically certified since 2018.

In addition, they built a new cellar space underneath the large family home in Chablis called ‘L’Enclos’, which was originally used by the monks of Pontigny. Not only have they transformed the old house into a beautiful Domaine, they have also built a vinification cellar five metres underground allowing the wine to be moved gently by gravity. It is spotlessly clean and modern, and is comprised primarily of small, stainless steel tanks. The small tanks ensure they can vinify the various parcels they have in their vineyards separately. Unusually in Chablis, they never chaptalise, and instead work with very low yields in order to ensure full ripeness in the grapes.

Debudding, canopy management and all grapes (at all levels) are harvested by hand. These are sorted both in the fields and again in the cellar. Fermentation happens with indigenous yeasts, in either temperature-controlled tank or French oak. No new barrels are used here, they prefer 5 years of age. Wines in general spend some 18 months on fine lees; and are neither fined nor cold stabilized. Only a small amount of sulfur is added at bottling. Wines are lightly filtered.

La R***e du Vin de France calls the wines of Domaine de L’Enclos “a sure value in the appellation,” but we’d take it much further: these organically raised, thrillingly expressive Chablis wines in short order have shown what a clear vision and native talent can achieve here, particularly amid a changing climate. These are Chablis wines with body and soul, energetic yet refined – indeed, serious value for stellar quality!

The CARO'S BURGUNDY 2022 INDENT OFFER is out!

Spectacular wines from three of the great Domaines; Bouchard Père & Fils , J.A. Ferret and Maison Louis Jadot

"I cannot remember a Burgundy vintage that elicited so much joy from barrel, and I’ve undertaken this exercise for over 20 years. A treasure trove of bright ‘n bushy-tailed whites and reds in a season that implied such wines would be impossible, wines predestined to give immense drinking pleasure. The 2022 vintage in the Côte d’Or is one that I will enjoy returning to time and again. At this point, I advise readers to fill their boots." -Vinous, Neal Martin

Click the link here to view the offer. https://mailchi.mp/caros/2022-burgundy-indent-offer

The 2021 vintage was so miniscule in size that we barely received any wines here in New Zealand. So 2022 is a welcome return to reasonable quantities, thankfully matched with outstanding quality!

It also is a vintage where that quality is there in both the Red and White Wines, across all the quality levels. This is a rare occurrence in Burgundy. A vintage that by all accounts will be extremely drinkable at a young age, but as Neal Martin states, is also “blessed with the balance and substance to mature exquisitely in bottle”.

Don’t miss your chance to secure some of the greatest examples of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir on the planet.

These wines will land towards the end of 2024. Payment is not due until arrival.

Remelluri - Pure Mountain Rioja.

We have just landed an extensive range of stunning wines from this mythical Estate, one of the finest vineyards in Spain. While firmly anchored in its historical past. Bodegas Remelluri illuminates the path forward for the future of Rioja and world-class, terroir-based Spanish fine wine.

Click the link below for the offer (some of the Gran Riserva wines have already sold out!) https://mailchi.mp/caros/remelluri-pure-mountain-rioja

The estate’s origins date back to the 10th century, and Remelluri became the first single-vineyard Rioja of the modern era with its release of the 1971 vintage. The famous winemaker Telmo Rodríguez and his sister Amaia (viticulturist) returned to the family property and took over the project from their father in 2009. The beginning of a new era and renewal of purpose at Remelluri.

Remelluri’s organically farmed vineyards are located along the mountains above the village of Labastida in Rioja Alavesa. The highest elevation in the region, with vines planted between 590m and 850m. Many of these are very old, with plantings dating back to 1918. The estate consists of over a hundred individual plots, on limestone and clay soils with exposed bedrock.

The wines made from grapes grown in the surrounding villages are now sold under the label ‘Lindes de Remelluri’, and are identified by their village of origin. Each is made in the exact same way to understand the differences between the fruit and soils of the different villages, a fascinating comparison.

Work in the winery plays a secondary role in Telmo’s philosophy, but great care is taken to make sure that every bottle reflects the terroir: wines are fermented with native yeasts, each individual plot is vinified separately, new oak is used very scarcely if at all, and the wines are only very lightly filtered and fined.

These high altitude wines are very refined, extremely elegant, and made in very small quantities. They are also naturally built to age gracefully for decades.

2022 Chablis Offer - Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin

Chablis is one of the hottest white wines in the world right now. Little wonder, when you can get stunning top rated Premier Cru vineyards for less than a third of the cost of an Puligny-Montrachet or Meursault!

After the last vintage sold out in weeks, we are incredibly excited to have the 2022 Chablis from Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin back on their way to New Zealand! They are one of the oldest Domaines in Chablis, dating back to at least 1620. Benoît Drion is the 14th generation of the family at the helm, and his incredible wines are now amongst the finest in the region.

Click the link below for the offer. https://tinyurl.com/DroinChablis2022

These are due to land in New Zealand January 2024. Order now to secure your bottles. Payment is not due until arrival.

“People often cite Domaines Raveneau and Vincent Dauvissat as the two greatest exponents of Chablis, however, I would like to add a third, Domaine Jean-Paul & Benoît Droin. Under his leadership Benoît Droin has really taken his domaine to new heights over the last decade. I cannot exaggerate how often Droin’s wines end up the best of the flight during the annual “Burgfest” blind tastings. Again and again, they shine against stiff competition. The bottom line is that his wines do the business, triumphing at various blind tastings with such regularity that attendees almost laugh at the predictable outcome. It is time to accept that Droin is now one of the leading producers in Chablis. I am a huge fan of these wines, whose strength is Benoît Droin’s assiduous use of used oak and stainless steel. In the 2022 vintage, where the summer heat erased a lot of nerve and tension, the wines somehow manage to retain those crucial elements, with an extremely consistent array of wines.”
- Vinous, Neal Martin

We are very excited to present this year’s premium indent offer from Germany and Austria.

With epic wines from Weingut Fritz Haag, Willi Schaefer, Weingut Dönnhoff and Weingut Hiedler

For the top producers, 2022 is another fantastic vintage in Germany. Like last year, this was again a very challenging season, due to the mix of extreme heat and heavy rain at different times. Yet the end result surprised everyone, including the winemakers themselves. The best wines are elegant, vibrant and precise, everything you are looking for in great Riesling. In fact, many taste like they’ve come from a cool vintage with their low alcohols, expressive aromas and lively acidity.

Click the link here for the full offer. https://mailchi.mp/caros/2022-german-austrian-indent-offer

Thankfully volumes for many of the wines are much better than last year, though production of Auslese and above was again minuscule. The style of the 2022s also means these wines are extremely delicious drinking already. Many writers reported that ‘tasting’ these wines, slipped easily into ‘drinking’ them. There’s no need to wait this year for huge enjoyment. Though of course, those who enjoy the wonders of aged Riesling will also be well rewarded

You will see from the incredible scores and drinking windows, that despite inflation and our weak dollar, German Riesling is still one of the most under-priced fine wine categories on the planet. Especially when you consider they are working entirely by hand, farming some of the steepest vineyard sites in the world. The finest of these being the Erste Lage (Premier Cru) and Grosses Gewächs (Grand Cru).

You will also find the new releases from Hiedler, one of the greatest producers in Austria. This year we have a few more wines, including their Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc), 1ÖTW (Premier Cru) and Maximum Grüner Veltliners. Don’t miss these incredible wines. We are extremely proud to represent these stunning estates here in New Zealand.

These are due to land later this year. The best are always sold out before arrival though so don't delay.

The incredible aromatic whites from Domaine Schoffit in Alsace have arrived!

These include some of the absolute finest examples of Pinot Gris and Gewürztraminer on the planet. From the Grand Cru Rangen Vineyard, in their walled Clos Saint-Théobald plot.

Rangen was named by Decanter last year as one of the 12 greatest vineyards in the world; alongside legendary examples like Montrachet and Musigny in Burgundy, Clos de Goisses in Champagne, Hill of Grace in Barossa, and Vignarionda in Barolo.

Click the link below for the offer, including their Riesling and Pinot Blanc. https://mailchi.mp/caros/alsace-legends-domaine-schoffit-579814

Famed for it's quality since the 12th Century, Rangen is also the steepest of these sites, reaching a gradient of 68% in places. The pickers need to abseil down the slope during harvest! The Schoffits will instruct you: "If you fall, just don’t damage the grapes.”

Bernard Schoffit brought the overgrown and neglected section in 1986, abandoned by other producers who deemed it simply too steep and difficult to work. He painstakingly rebuilt the medieval stone walls that hold the hillside in place. Today this volcanic soiled vineyard is farmed biodynamically by his son Alexandre.

These are also the best value Grand Cru wines in France! They're incredibly cheap for the quality and the amount of work these take to produce. Very limited stocks.

We have just landed an exciting new shipment from Tuscany, one of the most famous wine regions anywhere in Europe. Situated right in the centre of the country, it’s wine history can be traced back to at least the 7th Century BC.

The capital Florence is home to some of the world’s most recognizable Renaissance art, and was already full of wine merchants by the end of the 1200s. In 1716 history was made as the first legally enforced example of a DOC, when the Grand Duke of Tuscany defined the area of Chianti for the production of quality wines in a legal document. This is the heart of Italian wine, with Sangiovese the predominant grape variety here.

Click the link below for the offer. And the upcoming Italian fine wine tasting! https://mailchi.mp/caros/epic-tuscan-superstars-italian-tasting-579790

Within Tuscany, Chianti is both vast, and the most well-known region. Chianti Classico DOCG is in the centre, and the highest possible quality level. This is basically the same area originally designated in 1716 by Cosimo III de' Medici. Here we find gorgeous rolling hills producing different microclimates, with altitudes ranging from 250 to 610 m.

There are two main soil types within Classico that contribute to the distinctive character of the Sangiovese here. In the north the soils are richer and more fertile, with a bluish-gray chalky marlstone known as galestro. In the South they gradually become harder and stonier with weathered sandstone known as alberese.

We are privileged to import some of the finest producers in the region, renowned throughout the world for their quality. In this offer you’ll find new wines from Felsina Az. Agr. Fontodi La Vigna di San Martino Fattoria Le Fonti - Panzano and the legendary Montevertine . All from the great vintages of 2019 and 2020.

Like most great Sangiovese with their medium tannins and high acidity, they can be approached now and are extremely enjoyable already with dinner. But they will also mature beautifully for up to ten years or more. These are not like other fine wine regions that sometimes need to be forgotten in the cellar for decades.

New Champagne has landed! 🍾

Fallet-Dart is a boutique grower Champagne, with a passion transmitted through the generations, over the last four centuries. These are authentic, family grown hand made champagnes. All produced exclusively from grapes grown in their own vineyards. Direct from the house and without the huge marketing budgets, they are incredibly cheap compared to the big brands.

These are complex wines, mostly dominated by Pinot Noir, with lower dosages and fermentation in both stainless and traditional French oak. We have 6 fantastic champagnes just landed, including two from their rare ‘Collection Privée’. Their top wines are unbelievable value, being aged much longer in the cellar than famed Prestige Cuvees like Dom Perignon or Cristal.

Click the link below to view the new wines. https://www.caros.co.nz/features/fallet-dart.html

The family has been winegrowing in the region since 1610. Claude Fallet and Pierre Fallet, nicknamed “the eldest”, are the earliest winegrowers found in the family papers. From 1903 on, Louis Fallet was awarded several prizes for the “elegance” of his wines and the mastery of his vineyard in Charl-sur-Marne.

From the start the Fallet family wanted to be a shining example amongst the champagne houses. Married in 1953, Geneviève née Dart and Gaston Fallet united their surnames to create the 'new' house of Fallet Dart in 1970.

From 1985 to 2016, Daniel and Gérard Fallet with Francine and Dominique, their respective wives, made the family business prosper. The family affair expanded from a mere 5000 to 160,000 bottles. The buildings were enlarged and the wines started earning themselves a name.

Today their sons Adrien and Paul Fallet continue to perpetuate their forefathers’ values: originality and quality, innovation and respect for champagne traditions, to offer you champagnes with character that are renowned prizewinners worldwide.

We’ve finally managed to secure an allocation of some of these iconic producers, as well as the return of some familiar names to connoisseurs. These have all carved their own individual characters, that are very far removed by the usual perceptions. Don’t miss out on these incredible wines.

We are proud to present our 2023 indent offer on the premium wines of RIOJA.

This shipment represents some of the most sought-after estates in the region; Artadi Bodegas y Viñedos, Contino, CVNE Vino, Grupo La Rioja Alta, S.A. Bodegas Muga

In our opinion this is a region that is still heavily undervalued in the world of fine wine. Some of the finest Rioja are released with serious bottle age, so they drink fantastically as soon as you purchase them. We have brand new release wines going all the way back to 2010 in this offer.

Click the link here to read the offer.https://www.caros.co.nz/media/wysiwyg/home_blocks/2023-Rioja-Offer.pdf

These are not the poor examples of woody and dried out wines you might remember from the past. Nowadays at the high end there is more French than American oak used, and these will continue to mature gracefully for decades.

Top Rioja is as age-worthy as the great wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy, yet it flies under the radar compared to its more well-known peers. When you see the incredible reviews of these wines, it’s clear that world class bottles can be procured for far less than a similarly rated French wine, and it’s already been aged for you.

In recent years we have also started to see the modernisation of style and concepts in the Region. For almost 100 years Rioja relied on a hierarchy that valued blending and ageing above all else, now we are seeing the emphasis move to terroir. First the broad Vino de zona (Rioja Alta, Alavesa and Oriental, the latter until recently known as Baja); in 1999 the village-based Vino de municipal (there are 145 ‘recognised’ villages); and most importantly, in 2017 the birth of the single-vineyard classification, the Viñedo singular.

Many of these special bottlings are only available to New Zealand in tiny quantities. The demand for these from connoisseurs is huge overseas, so for some wines there are only bottles, not cases.

Place your order as soon as possible, as we will need to allocate the rarest bottles. The new Rioja wines are expected to arrive August 2023
