Hato Hone St John Cambridge
Please do not use this page to report medical emergencies - DIAL 111.
All around New Zealand, 24 hours a day, and 365 days a year – St John members care for communities, help people in medical and accident emergencies, and relieve sickness and injury.
Manawatia a Matariki - Celebrating Matariki
Matariki is a special time of the year for remembrance, reflection, celebration and preparation for a bountiful year. We hope you enjoy celebrating with your friends and whānau.
Several of our Waikato teams got together recently to practise a mass casualty drill 🚑
The training exercise saw almost 30 of our people from different ambulance stations and teams like our Major Incident Support Team (MIST), alongside the local volunteer Fire Brigade, join forces to assess and treat 12 "patients" inside a venue and outside in a simulated car crash.
A big thank you to all our people, volunteers, "patients" and the venues for helping us to practise our skills so we can be even more prepared to help those in need during emergencies 🤝
Fire and Emergency NZ
A huge thank you to local businesses who supported one of our Area Committee members 'Cupcake bake' for the 'Light the Way - Double Day' fundraiser.
100 cupcakes baked - $500.00 donated + $500.00 double-day today (until 3pm) - that's $1000.00 to our fundraising efforts.
If you can - donate today (before 3pm) and the funds will be doubled. Every little bit counts.
Right now, we need to fund a major rebuild at our Cambridge Ambulance Station.
The Cambridge station had got to a point where it was no longer fit for purpose and needs to be earthquake strengthened. This is vital - especially now, given the increasing demands on our local emergency services.
We are grateful the donors who have supported us so far – but we need to raise additional funds to get this build started. Can you help?
Today till 3pm, all donations will be DOUBLED by a generous group of donors ❤.

With winter illnesses we see an increase in calls for ambulances 🚑
Each call we receive is triaged by our clinical teams so we can get to those who most need our help first.
When you call an ambulance with cold or flu symptoms you may find that you're called back by a nurse or paramedic. This person will do an additional clinical assessment and then arrange an ambulance, suggest an alternative health provider, or give advice over the phone 📱
In some regions, our ambulance crews might also use a telehealth consultation in a patient's home with a specialised team instead of taking them to an Emergency Department.
To ensure we can be there for all New Zealanders when they need us most, we are working closely with Health New Zealand - Te Whatu Ora to share, monitor and respond safely to spikes in demand. If you or your whānau become unwell this winter there are a range of options for healthcare including your own GP, Healthline and local Pharmacy.
If it is an emergency, or you’re unsure always call 111, we’re here to help you.

Congratulations to our Christchurch and Waikato Friends of the Emergency Department teams who are both celebrating their 20th anniversaries.
Hospitals and healthcare facilities can be stressful or isolating for some people. That's where our Friends of the Emergency Department (FED), Hospital Friends, Hospital Hosts, and Community Carers come in.
There are over 800 FED, Hospital and Community Carer volunteers across Aotearoa, providing Kiwis with a hand to hold and someone to talk to when they need it most.

We look forward to serving the heart of the North Island and enhancing our emergency response capabilities there.
Everyone can be a Road Safety Hero 🦸
Every year, we respond to over 13,000 road incidents. We want everyone to have a safe journey. Never drive if you're tired. Always give yourself extra time. And drive to the conditions.
Thank you to everyone who drives safely and to all our people for helping those who need it on the roads 💛
It's International Museum Day tomorrow 🏛️
We've been very lucky over the years to be invited and included to be part of many exhibitions at museums across the country, including our older ambulances and even the only Barbie in St John uniform in the world 💅
We're also lucky to have Archives in Auckland and Christchurch which contain a huge and carefully curated collection of videos, books, magazines, photos and artefacts showcasing our proud history of caring for communities across New Zealand through the decades.
A big thank you to all our volunteers who expertly look after our past and record the history of St John in New Zealand 💛

It's quiz time 🤩
CPR is required when a patient is unresponsive and not breathing normally. It's vital for anyone who is in cardiac arrest if they are to have any chance of survival.
We use the acronym DRSABCD to assess whether resuscitation is needed, but what does it stand for?
Bonus points are available for those who know what all the letters mean or those who are not sure and learn something new 😍
Need some help? Check out our resuscitation first aid guide: https://brnw.ch/21wJKc1

In case you've forgotten, it's Mother's Day on Sunday (you're welcome for the reminder 😅) but we wanted to celebrate early by introducing you to amazing Ana and her children 🤩
Ana first started with us eight years ago.
"I saw a poster at Mangawhai Ambulance Station asking for volunteers. I thought they needed help cleaning, gardening, doing admin etc, but I went on to complete my NZ Certificate in Emergency Care and became a First Responder," says Ana.
"During the same period, I signed my three children up to be Cadets and became a Leader there. I later became the District Youth Manager and now the Regional Youth Manager."
"My mum inspires me a lot," says Harrison, "particularly through her strength and commitment. She has taught me over the years to never give up and always try new things."
"Seeing her commitment to helping others inspires me to contribute to my community in meaningful ways and strive to make a difference in the lives of others, just like she does," says Samantha.
Happy Mother's Day to Ana and all the hardworking Hato Hone St John mums who work alongside their sons and daughters, colleagues, customers, and patients 💛
And Happy Mother's Day to all the mums around New Zealand. Enjoy the weekend 💐

A shout out to Petal Passion for the stunning wreath laid at the Cambridge District War Memorial on behalf of Cambridge St John this Anzac Day - truly stunning and befitting the event.
Our latest paw-medic is ready for action 🐶
On Anzac Day, we remember the sacrifice and bravery of those who served, including our courageous St John people who were stretcher-bearers, nurses and field surgeons in both world wars.
Lest we forget ❤️
It’s Earth Day today 🌏 and we’re proud to launch Australasia's first electric emergency ambulance 🚑
ASB Bank has kindly gifted this EV emergency ambulance to us after more than two years of planning, designing and assembling this custom-built vehicle at Action Manufacturing in Hamilton. The vehicle will be trialled over the next year to test its range and capabilities to see whether it is a viable and sustainable option for us on our journey to reduce our emissions.
Watch Seven Sharp at 7pm on TVNZ1 tonight for the full story.
Some of our previous vehicles are on display as part of the new Emergency Service Winter Exhibit at Bill Richardson Transport World in Invercargill.
They join Florence, a Volkswagen ambulance always on display in the museum 🚑
🎉🎄 A HUGE shoutout to the Cambridge Christmas Festival ! 🎄🎉
We are incredibly grateful for their generous donation to St John Cambridge, which has enabled us to purchase kitchenware for The Cadets. Not only that, but their support has also provided uniforms for our Volunteers and the Area Committee.
A big thank you for the delicious morning tea and for giving us a sneak peek at what they're producing for this year's festival. It's always exciting to see the incredible work and creativity that goes into making the festival a success!
