Ok - so nothing at all to do with art - but my eldest son just did this... And I wanted to show off :-) Tis pretty cool - even if you are not into footy... https://www.facebook.com/monbulkrangerssc/

Many thanks to Peter at Gallery151 who sold this piece "Connections" just before Christmas.
I’ve seen photos - and it is a real statement piece in the buyers' home on the hill.
"Connections" is one of the larger canvases I’ve painted recently, and I look forward to continuing to produce pieces in this growing series.
Watch this space - or the Christchurch Art Show next month - I have 2 new pieces in this series going in there :-)
Exciting times!

‘Without a paddle’ - without a doubt, this image steals the show! Only released after the original sold at the Chch Art Show last June, ⅓ of available prints ( /50) have already sold! Dudley won enough hearts to earn me People’s Choice Awards at 3 separate exhibitions last year. Professionally framed in solid timber (various colours) with UV Conservation glass. I will have prints available at the Chch Art Show next month - but happy to sell prior. Just DM or me on 021 433 163.
Thank you, Dudley, for being my favourite long-eared muse. Swipe to see the Alfie blooper shot!

06/02/2023

This piece is the follow-on from ‘Incoming’ I painted last year. (It has taken a year for me to be able to paint it.) ‘Incoming’ was an image of our beautiful old boy Floyd sitting with a top hat on, awaiting the arrival of wee Alfie (shown as the bubble) who was coming to join our family. Sadly, only a few weeks after Alfie arrived to join our whanau, Floyd left us.

The timelapse of this piece shows the second part of this story. Not quite finished, it shows young Alfie wearing the oversized top hat watching the (Floyd’s) bubble leave us. "I’ve got this."

More artworks hitching a ride to Forfar Road Gallery in Roxburgh - Dudley is very popular down yonder! Thanks Gordon - & Janine & David for the lift :-)

Original artwork painted last year and currently available through Forfar Road Gallery, Roxburgh.
One of a series of 5 pieces portraying the boat sheds on Portobello Road, Dunedin.
Gorgeous place filled to the brim with inspiration.

After missing out on buying ‘Bedazzled' at the the Governor’s Bay Jetti auction ‘Distinctly Penninsula’ in October, I was approached by the luvly Steve asking if I had any more paintings with Dudley in them he could secretly purchase.
‘His Masters Voice’ was not quite finished before Steve nabbed it for his wife Rochelle for Christmas. (All I had to do was to finish it without stuffing it up!)

Sworn to secrecy it was suggested it would earn him at least ‘a couple of years worth of brownie points’ once she saw it. And, it looks like he was right.

I adore the pic of Rochelle with her Christmas gift - a photo saying a thousand words and all that. As one of my favourite pieces, I am sooooo very stoked how much you both love it and I’m super happy he’s gone to such a loving home 🤗

Limited editions of this piece will be available from Gallery 151 in Colombo St, Sydenham from tomorrow. And the Chch Arts Show in March.

I suspect they will be as popular as ‘Without a Paddle’, which won 3 seperate ‘People’s Choice Awards last year. But - we shall see 🙃

Welcome to the first of my ‘Timelapse Tuesdays’.
(Pretty sure it’s still Tuesday somewhere in the world.)
My intention is to post timelapse videos each week - let’s see how that goes!

I’ve always loved watching people working at their craft - so I began making timelapse recordings last year to share the love, so to speak.
This one is a bit of a ‘blast from the past’ as I was painting ‘Traveller’ last June. Ended up being a pretty cool piece to be fair, and inspiration for a new (as yet unnamed) collection.
Let’s kick off with that :-)

06/01/2023

Boy - wadda year!
Last night we farewelled the beautiful, chaotic, bedlam that was the grand babies visiting from Australia for 3 weeks. Best Christmas break ever! (Although not a single hour spent in my studio.)

Sitting here now in the quiet, reflecting on my rather surreal Arty journey for 2022… it was a fairly wonderful year to be fair…

I had work in 10 exhibitions and 2 Galleries.
In August, I received my 1st ‘People’s Choice Award’ at the Inaugural Arts Canterbury Exhibition.
In October, I received my 2nd ‘People’s Choice Award’ at the Darfield Artweek.
My piece ‘Bedazzled’ sold (very well) at the Distinctly Penninsula Art Auction at Governors Bay.
In November, I was astounded to win my 3rd ‘People’s Choice Award’ (1st & 2nd places) at the Arts Canterbury Juried Exhibition.
Two other substantial pieces sold right before Christmas but I’ll post about them soon.

Because, now I have time to breath, I wish to send a sincere ‘thank you’ to everyone who has supported me in my Arty journey…

The buyers of my Artworks;
The Gallery Owners - Forfar Road Gallery, Roxburgh; and Gallery 151, Sydenham;
Hubby James, my family & friends who have absolutely been the wind beneath my wings (cliche but so very true);
My daughter Jaq who has tried so very hard to drag her Mum into the 21st century re social media;
My students at Discoveries - some of my biggest fans - who tell me what they think (good & bad). And, who stepped up to run my stand at the Chch Arts Show when I was in isolation for the 2 days. (Above and beyond you guys!);
And, the unique family of fellow creatives who inspire, support and encourage each other. Wadda bunch!
Whether you know it or not - you are all my support crew - and I am massively grateful.
Thank you. Really 🤗

My mission for 2023 is to continue my Arty trajectory - to work hard and enjoy every brush stroke. To get a whole lot better at this social media stuff (yuk!); to continue striving & learning; to make Art that comes from my heart; Art that makes me smile; Art that people can connect with.

But - enough waffle - here’s to a rather wonderful, happy and safe 2023 for all…

Photos from Arts Canterbury's post 10/11/2022

I'm so so chuffed to say that I was awarded the People's Choice Award at the Arts Canterbury Juried Art Show, as well as runner up – would you believe it! Thanks for everyone who voted for ‘Traveller’ and ‘Without a paddle’. And of course for Sayoko’s ‘Waiting’ (an absolute favourite of mine).

03/11/2022

Was super happy for my piece ‘Bedazzled’ to find a wonderful new home in Governors Bay with this rather gorgeous couple…

Gavin Bain bought this piece for his wife Sharron Ballantyne who "fell in love with it on first sight”.
Thank you Gavin and Sharron for both supporting your community (as always) and for falling in love with Dudley and ‘Bedazzled'.

What a wonderful job the Governors Bay Jetti rebuild fundraising team did with an auction that was exhilarating and so much fun.

If you haven't been to the Arts Canterbury Juried Exhibition yet, you still have a few days to head along to Eastside Gallery to view a stunning collection from local artists. Exhibition closes this Saturday 29th.
P.s. can you spot Dudley ?

16/10/2022

And that's a wrap from Darfield Artweek!

Thank you to all involved, it's been the most amazing week of community art.

Congratulations goes to Diana Nicholson-Plank, for winning this years hotly contested People's Choice, for Without a Paddle

16/10/2022

I'm feeling a tad bashful but pretty proud to have won another People's Choice Award - this time at the Darfield Artweek that finished yesterday.
It was an amazing exhibition run by Meg and the crew at Malvern Arts and Te Huanui Art Gallery in Darfield.
I had one piece in amongst around 300 others with dear old Dudley capturing people's hearts in 'Without a Paddle’.
Thank you SO very much to everyone who voted for me.
I hope I can continue to create art that resonates with people as much as I love to make it.
I currently have a copy of this Limited Edition Print at the Arts Canterbury Juried Exhibition at Eastside Gallery, and he will soon also be in another gorgeous (new) Gallery space in Colombo St.
Watch this space :-)
P.s. limited edition prints are available through my website, or contact me to arrange.

A huge thank you to Jeremy and Rebecca from Grassroots Yoga and Health for displaying Connections in the stunning reception area – it looks amazing! Something for you to ponder after a yoga class.

McAndrew's Bay Boatsheds has a new home at Lake Hawea! Thanks to Forfar Road Gallery in Roxburgh for displaying and selling my work :)

17/08/2022

Oh my... This past weekend I was one of 67 Artists exhibiting at the Arts Canterbury Art Exhibition at the Cashmere Club.

And, on Sunday - I won the ‘People’s Choice Award’.

I really don’t like sounding too “show-y off-y”… but talk about profoundly stunned & stupidly happy!

My Arty journey has taken me 30+ years (so far) and I feel I am finally finding my Artistic voice.
I’m a bit like Mainland Cheese - good things take time.

I loved watching people’s reactions to my work and talking with the many people who stood a long time pondering my Artworks.
(Or they were trying to work out what goes on in my brain - but good luck with that!)

Thank you to Arts Canterbury committee who did such an AMAZING job of organising this inaugural event - It was right up there with the best!
It was super professional, good crowds and a stunning array of Artists exhibiting from all over Canterbury.

And a special thank you to all who voted for me - I look forward to making more Art that resonates.

From the stupidly happy, and newly inspired (& a tiny bit ‘show-y off-y”), Diana 👻

Wow - what a job Arts Canterbury have done!
The biggest and best Art show in Christchurch, after show at Te Pae, with a huge array of 65(ish) Artists displaying their work.
The Cashmere Club (50 Colombo Street) is a fantastic venue.
I’m sure the great crowd last night will continue today and tomorrow.
Definitely recommend being part of this inaugural exhibition and paying a visit 🙃

10/08/2022

Phew, got it finished! Just needs to be signed and then it's ready for the exhibition.
Connections, acrylic on canvas, 101x152cm.

A work in progress – the next in the Traveller series. Loving the direction this is heading in, and hoping to have it finished for the Arts Canterbury Art Show next weekend!
This work is for sale – contact me if you are interested.

23/06/2022

Well, tomorrow is set up day for the Christchurch Art Show - the most amazing event of the Arty Calendar each year.
And after working all year, I am sorted, packed & ready - and I won’t be going - at least until Sunday 🥺

Having to isolate due to family member with Covid tis pretty devastating - but omg…

I always knew my wee Art school Discoveries was home to some pretty special humans - but they have outdone themselves this time!
This week, a Rescue Squad of 15 students have organised a roster to set up and run my stand for me for as long as I cannot be there.
I am beyond words (which is no easy feat!). I am absolutely bursting with pride, gratitude and a massive dose of humility and wish to thank this precious bunch of humans who are going above and beyond for me.

Alfie is doing his best to console me - but fingers crossed I remain covid free and can attend in person on Sunday & Monday.

You liked the sneak peek, now here's the stunning (if I do say so myself) finished painting – While the Sun Shines. Contact me directly to purchase, or to discuss commissions.

No, having puppies in the studio isn't distracting at all. I'm getting heaps of painting done!

According to my marketing department - my gorgeous daughter Jacqui - it would appear I have not put a post on FB since 1 March.

I have never denied I’m anything but complete rubbish at the social media thing, but - in an attempt to defend myself – in the past couple of months I have:

– Visited Australia so see my beautiful son and his family
– Had work at the Arts Canterbury show at Russley Village
– Been teaching in my Art School, Discoveries
– Been VERY busy painting for the Cashmere primary School Art Show - in 2 weeks! - and the Christchurch Arts Show next month.

Life has been super busy but super exciting! I’m really happy with where my Arty journey is taking me, and the responses I receive from so many art lovers.

Looks like Jaq is including some sneaky pics of works in progress with this post.

If ever you wish to contact me - to discuss a commission or any of my works i have for sale, please text me on 021 433 163 and you’ll get a prompt reply 🙃

Anybody who knows me knows that I am diabolically rubbish at social media, so I have roped my beloved daughter to help me. Been furiously busy painting for the Dunedin Art Show next week!

Here's one my many recent creations: Lady in Red, 46x36cm, acrylic on canvas.
