I love the colours we can get from our ngahere. These are all natural dyes using Tānekaha, raurēkau, kōrari and paru. Thank you Tracey Robens for your tautoko and knowledge sharing!
Creating with friends is always better 🥰
A day of creating, and a rare moment of the girls helping 😆
It's getting colder here in NZ, and I am reminded of the warm weather, crystal-clear water and delicious food in Fiji 🌞
Some more creating earrings with my friend Jacinta 👯♀️
Muka as far as the eye can see .... 👀
We spent the weekend in Wellington for a monument birthday. It was Peaky Blinders themed 🥳
Taylor and I dressed up trying to look glamourous! But we were let down by Luke dressing as a drunk and Ruby as a chimney sweep.
We're making the most of the last few warm days! For a dog with no digging in her nature, she sure does a lot of digging 😂
A few weekends ago we went for a whānau walk in Arthurs Pass. We walked the Bealey Spur Track, and of course I stopped to admire all the nature 🍃
I made this in 2022, and it's come full circle! My beautiful sister wore this to her graduation, I am so proud 💞
Who needs a jewellery box, I like to display all my earrings so I can see them!
The product of one of my new dyes. Any guesses what I used?
I love this chocolatey colour!
I got to spend some time with my brother on a fishing charter. It was heaps of fun and my first time out on a charter boat.
I have been playing around making different natural dyes and mordants and found this in one of the buckets one morning. It's like it's own universe!
Pottery weekends with my mum include relaxing, creating and walking.
Prep, prep and more prep. I have some special projects on the go this year... 🤩
We had a whānau workshop making ‘ei katu, ate delicious food and had a great time hanging out together 🥰
I had the honour of weaving with Whaea Sonia Snowden at National Weavers Hui 2023. She is a tohunga raranga (master weaver) and I was surprised and blown away to see the kete we woven together in the Wellington Museum!
We were creating this kete under the tutorage of
This year I am back to making earrings! I will be doing commission pieces, so watch this space... 🤩
Luke and I had the best time in Fiji, celebrating our wedding anniversary 💕
What a great way to start the New Year!
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE 🥳
Hope everyone is settling into the new year, and have enjoyed time with whānau. I am so excited for the year ahead. I have a new studio space and am excited to have a bigger space to create in.
☀️ Summer means enjoying a Vanilla Ice! These ice creams are so nostalgic and I'm so happy they're still open for me to enjoy with my daughter and niece.
For those who haven't had an Ice Cream Charlie (you're really missing out), you can find them in Victoria Square.
This is after a few tries, getting some beautiful strong colours. Gone through about 100 avocado seeds and skins. Lucky I am on an avocado farm!
If you're in Ōtautahi, come down to The Airforce Museum from 10am - 4pm.
Great Christmas presents!

Alice Spittle / Art & Wellbeing
Art & Wellbeing is the home of Maori Contemporary artist Alice Spittle.
Alice finds it hard to define herself as a painter, weaver or mixed media artist but she would consider herself as a Maori contemporary artist, exploring life creatively through as many art forms as she can. Each art form inspires and compliments the others and they allow her to stay motivated and focused on her passion.
Alice graduated from Te Wananga O Raukawa in Otaki, NZ (2002) with a Diploma in Maori Design and Art and started her journey into the expression of art in Christchurch, NZ where she exhibited and sold her works nationally and internationally.
She has a deep passion for creating artworks that inspire, challenge or initiate change. Alice also weaves with traditional NZ Harakeke (Flax) fibre as well as paints in oils and acrylics and her artworks have depth and texture that combine various mixed media mediums into her works. She prides herself on using the highest grade and quality paints and materials.
